I'm not saying that production didn't mess with them, because it is clear that they did, but who really screwed up their relationship was Peter. Peter with his indecisiveness, his love of drama and mostly because he couldn't keep little Peter in his pants. That was all on him. Not that tptb weren't happy with the results ... ...but then again, that's why they picked his easily malleable self.
