@Norcalgal What a contrast.
This is getting scarier by the minute.

Re: Weather - Discussion
British Columbia my heart breaks seeing the images of the devastating mud slides and flooding. I don't know how in the world will these highways get repaired.
Stay safe everyone, I hope all the truckers and people stranded get rescued asap and get home soon.
Huge thanks to the military getting everyone out.

This is just a fraction of the horrible situation right now.

Helicopter video from today of the extreme damage to the Coquihalla. This highway is not re-opening this winter, and likely not next Spring either. #bcstorm #bcfloods #cdnpoli pic.twitter.com/xeervtk17Y

More on the mudslides in British Columbia. Heavy rain and many roads and bridges closed due to heavy rain in Washington State.
On Oct 24th, we had an atmospheric river in wine country - our property received over 8 inches of rain in 24 hours. Ever since then our well has produced cloudy water, with high levels of bacteria. We've had to buy water for drinking and washing but tomorrow it's being treated and another filter being added! Yeah! Makes me really feel for all those in Flint, MI who have put up with bad water for years.

Re: Weather - Discussion
I never heard of atmospheric river before the BC storms. And I thought we had it bad with lake effect snow.
Glad to hear you'll be having your water treated @Norcalgal. Hope you'll be back to normal.

Re: Weather - Discussion
On Nov 6, Vancouver had an F0 tornado that didn't kill anyone but did a lot of damage.....then this.
It's been really bad here. THe weather is appalling and now with the flooding and deaths, it is heartbreaking. I honestly don't know what's worse.....floods or fire. Both are damaging and deadly. our area on the island had 12 inches of rain in 36hrs and areas of frazer valley with the majority of the flooding had 15.5 inches in the same amount of time.
https://globalnews.ca/bc/
There are many still missing in the slides both on the mainland in the fraser valley and on the island where I am. North and South island are cut off from the other. Ferries are being used to transport goods and people back and forth.
At least one of the highways may get opened by the end of the weekend as it is the one with the least amount of damage. Highway 3. That all depends though if the highway between Vancouver and hope gets opened.
On a side note, one of the major factories in BC that makes the RV's that are sold all over the usa and canada also had a massive fire amongst the flooding when the electrical wires ignited propane, etc....they lost all their new rv's on the lot and factory gone.
Merritt, Princeton, Abbotsford and Aldergrove are without water and sewer....Flooding is still happening.
With me in our valley, roads were flooded out, and other localized issues but we were able to get off pretty well here.

@Aunties_Love Thanks for reporting in as I had worried about you when I heard of the rain and slides in BC. Those mudslides are always a worry after fires. It seems as if 2021 can't end fast enough for you after all you've been through. Please stay safe and let us know how things are going. It is devastating to see those pictures and think of so many lives disrupted for a long, long time.

Yea, I wish I could go to sleep tonight and wake up in 2022. This year has been devastation on so many levels.Norcalgal wrote:@Aunties_Love Thanks for reporting in as I had worried about you when I heard of the rain and slides in BC. Re: Weather - Discussion
It just doesn't end. One thing after another, every day it seems there is something else.
I cannot believe the damage. It's going to take many many months to repair all that damage.
@Aunties_Love stay safe and to all affected, we are all thinking of you.
