Re: Weather - Discussion
@GuardianAngel That 'lake effect' of your storms is really something! We just had our driest February since 1864 - there was absolutely no rain! Our rainfall to date on our ranch is 14 inches and normally we'd be approaching 30 or more. Forecast is for some wet weather in March - fingers crossed.

Re: Weather - Discussion
@Norcalgal fingers crossed. Lack of rain can really be difficult for everyone!
Lake effect snow is remarkable. We had some last night when I was driving home and it was very late. Luckily I caught up to a sander.
You can drive 25 minutes away from the lake and it's completely different weather pattern. I'm a couple of blocks from the lake, just the wind howling is enough to make you grab a blanket and stay put. The downfall to spring is it's much cooler because the lake is still cold. 25 minutes away and everything is blooming!

Re: Weather - Discussion
@GuardianAngel Interesting how close to the lake you have to be to see its full effect. Similar to the fog from the coast - we are 6 miles inland and have frequent fog but 10 miles east, there is little to none.

This is the result of the storm Thursday night into Friday for residents along Lake Erie near Buffalo. There are pictures and vids in the link but it won't let me embed them.

HAMBURG, N.Y. — Cold temperatures, gale-force winds, and 18-foot waves from Lake Erie created an ice spectacle at Hoover Beach in Hamburg.
Homeowners on South Shore Drive woke to the ice completely covering their doors and windows. In some cases, their homes were dark because of how thick the ice was.

Ed Mis tells me this is what his house looked like when he woke up this morning. He says some of the ice has completely frozen over the top of his neighbor’s house and he’s worried about what will happen when it all melts. @WGRZ pic.twitter.com/XVrEomdslq

Re: Weather - Discussion
@GuardianAngel I saw those houses. They keep showing them on the Weather Network. I thought they were empty and had been evacuated. That ice looks so thick. How did they even get out? I can't imagine that they still have power and how much damage will they have once they thaw.

Re: Weather - Discussion
It's hard to comprehend! I'm guessing that is the side of the house that was getting hit from the 18ft waves and wind coming off the lake. As the waves crashed, they actually froze, so maybe whatever part of the house that was facing away from the lake wasn't as bad? IDK but I'd be going crazy!
"I actually had to go out a secondary door and then chisel my way back into the house by breaking the ice," he told 2 On Your Side's Karys Belger.

I saw a photo of that house on another news network too.
I have a friend in Cleveland area and they get the lake effect snow all the time. I don't remember anything like the ice on the house though being posted by her on FB.
