IMO Arie did indeed fall in love with Emily. I say that for several reasons. One is he keeps consistently telling the same story. Another is that it appears he really did go rogue and breached a clearly enforceable clause in his contract (no contact with any current or past cast or lead unless requested by the producers until the finale of that season aired) when he went to see Emily and dropped off his journal. IMO you don't take such a risk unless there's something substantial you hope to gain. And another is that Sydney said (in her podcast with RS) that Arie loved Emily and she would have been in a better position to know Arie than I ever was or will be.

But here's where it gets tricky (this all came from Courtney's book). After a few dates with Arie, Courtney and Arie met up at Ashley & JP's wedding (although neither was invited) and she went with Arie to visit Jef Holm. Courtney said that after Emily and Jef broke up (and also after Courtney and Arie had been caught kissing on a dinner date) Emily was bombarding Arie with jealous texts over his relationship with Courtney. Also, during the wedding weekend, (and even though they had broken up weeks before), Jef hooked up with Emily (along with two other women BTW). Now if Emily was jealous of Arie's relationship with Courtney and was texting him over it, it seems to me that could have been a chance for Arie to have reconnected with Emily. But he didn't. IMO one reason why he didn't was that he had a front row seat into Emily's behavior and hookups that presented a very different picture of Emily to Arie - one which was not appealing to him IMO. Bottom line, Arie fell in love with Emily only to end up seeing that she was not even close to the woman she pretended to be, and IMO it may be little wonder that he doesn't trust his gut now because it's led him astray in a big way before.

And a footnote to the Emily / journal issue. That was an obvious breach of contract. If the 4 wheeling date with Becca was unsanctioned, that's another breach of contract. You can bet that he is now on a very tight leash and everything he does is by the book. Arie could stand to lose all his net worth and probably Lauren if he doesn't toe the line, IMO.

I agree. I actually think that Lauren was his F1 the entire time, but he panicked in the final week and went with Becca because of two things:

1) Becca's ex showing up p*ssed him off and those emotions messed with his head and made him think his feelings for her were stronger than they actually were.
2) His family preferred Becca and discouraged him from choosing Lauren.

In all of Becca and Arie's interactions, I get the impression that she's very into him, and he likes her on paper and respects her but isn't particularly attracted to her. I do think that when he proposed to her, he was really hoping that those feelings would come later, but the more time they spent together, the more he realized he just wasn't that into her and that wasn't going to change. From what we've seen of Lauren, I don't think she's anything to write home about, BUT, for whatever reason, he seems very taken with her and very into her in a way that I've never seen when he's with Becca. I really think he let other people convince him to choose Becca when he really wanted Lauren all along, and while it sucks for Becca, I don't blame him for acknowledging he made a mistake and ending it sooner rather than later.

I hope they keep Caroline way in the background. I don't really care to hear from her again.

Yep! I bet they got some things in store. I'll be waiting to see how it goes, see if the future can be predicted

@beader I hope so too but I doubt it. It would be funny if they cut her out. I'm tired of her. Two more days and it won't matter.



But I'm sure she'll do what she can to continue having this.

It’s tough to figure out what to focus on when dating so many people at one time. But Luyendyk Jr. revealed what his strategy will be this season. He said at a conference: I think my game plan was not to lead with chemistry. I think in the past I’ve done that before and I think as a man it’s easy to do that. Also for me, I just really tried to envision how that person would fit into my regular life and if I could fit into their life. That also means not putting so much stock into looks and attraction. “It’s really easy to get wrapped up in the romance and the experience and the beautiful women sitting across from you,” he continued. “But really you have to look at it outside of this and look out what your future could look like together.” wrote:I agree. I go back to this quote from an interview Arie gave very very early in the season. This stands out to me.

I think when he is talking about chemistry and a beautiful woman sitting across from him he was talking about Lauren. He said that Becca was stunning on the clothes and gift dates but when he looks at Lauren you can tell he is smitten and taken in by her beauty (his type of beauty). Now I sense why he chose Becca. Becca is so easygoing and pleasant to be with I could see where he would feel she was the right choice. I do think there is a lighter side to Lauren but on the show she was tedious her need for reassurance above just being in the moment. I think he felt if he could talk to her outside of the bubble and see where her head was at, he could make a connection and he did. IMO.

Yikes, that interview basically makes it seem like he switched to Lauren because he decided he wanted the beautiful girl over the one he was compatible with.

I can see why his sister's first question was to ask him if he and Lauren can have conversations. He's so embarrasing. IMO.

@littlereddress I have no problem if he wanted to talk to her out of the bubble as you say. But if he still had Becca in tow, and decided to cut her loose ONLY after Lauren said she was receptive , I call that a foul. Now if he wanted to cut Becca loose anyway, why check in on Lauren first? Therein lies the issue for me.

I'm just not buying that Arie picked Becca because his family wanted him to or because of her ex showing up. Parents have preferred the f2 over the years yet the lead still picks who they want. It's my opinion that Arie got nervous about Lauren around the fantasy dates and it was just easier with Becca. I do think he was attracted to her and they had fun together. I didn't see a great romance with Lauren either even though he was clearly very into her. I'm not sure Arie should have got engaged to either of them yet he did - twice (per spoiler).
