Bachelor 22 - Arie Luyendyk Jr - SM Media - *Sleuthing Spoilers* - #3

Along with what @mslat92 said above and upthread where someone pointed out how this is not the first time Arie tried to pull a switchroo. He failed with Emily and succeeded with Lauren. Sometimes some dudes want what they can’t have. Now he has Lauren, let’s see how that goes.

Already in his blog today he claims that the best conversation on his group date cocktail party was with Lauren. He is already trying to sell his own narative. Hilarious. I wonder if Lauren realizes how ugly this could get? She might change her mind.

I actually think it takes guts for both Arie and Lauren to take a chance on this considering the backlash they must know they will get from the general public. I kind of like the “eff this, I don’t care if they hate me, I love you, can’t stop thinking about you and want you back” thing - it’s messy and passionate and certainly compelling.  If it doesn’t feel right with Becca, IMO it’s better for all involved to admit the mistake now rather than waste more time/emotion.

And I’m so here for the drama that will be the ATFR/aftermath This season has gotten a lot more interesting to me.

I'm definitely 10000x more excited for this season now, but my problem is (and this is all assuming RS is right) is how they went about it. Like, Arie was liking Lauren's pictures back in December - not only is that so disrespectful to your fiancé to make it public that you're still hung up on your ex, it shows that he didn't even give it a proper try with Becca as this was weeks after the finale. And then if he was talking to her on January 1st, but didn't break up with Becca until last week? That seems like non-physical cheating to me. And then he broke up with her on camera? Hopefully, this was more mutual than it's appearing, because it's just so hard to defend Arie on the way he went about this if we're getting the real picture.

And, it's just so hard for me to buy Lauren and Arie as this epic love story after seeing them film in Italy. They both seemed so awkward and distant and just not two people passionately in love. Even in last night's episode, I think there was this scene where she evaded his kiss. Looks can be very deceiving, apparently. IMO.

Now I'm wondering if the ATFR is going to be closed set like Jason's was or still have a crowd there. That should be interesting!

@havadrpepper regarding your question about number 5: I read that regarding RS. I don't know if it really happened. That's what I read.

Looks like Arie and Lauren were together last night.. since they were liking pictures on IG at the same time.

I just can't believe what is happening. I didn't know much about Arie but decided to give him the benefit of the doubt because of Becca. I feel so sad for Becca, she's amazing and def dodged the bullet.

I also agree with @Aria.. this is like cheating to me. Esp since Arie has been in contact with Lauren for atleast a month while being "engaged" to Becca. As if Arie and Lauren were both discussing when he should end the engagement and come to Virginia. To me, this does not sound like it was done mutually.

Super klassy. Wonder what her mom & dad think? Or maybe they’re not scholars of the show like we are and don’t know what a massive, stupid, no-good idea this all is?

Silver lining for me is Becca possibly being the Bachelorette. I don't see anyone else being it other than Becca and I am all for her being the lead

Well by the way he left his last GF to come on the show, shadiness should not surprise. He cheated on her behind her back discussing the terms with TB people . At least we know Becca won’t settle so she’s the lucky one in the long run imo. Lauren has a wedding registry to reactivate.

The thing is, I don't think it's really a mentality of 'eff this' but rather them believing that people will accept this version of what their selling as their love story. I think they'll quickly realise that isn't the case, or maybe naively hope that by the time the AFTR rolls around, people will have accepted their narrative, but Arie is already being mocked and criticised by Bach Nation as a horny old dude - so I think this switcheroo will only make him look worse. If he was THAT confused to begin with, he should never have proposed to Becca. The vibe I get is he just doesn't know what he wants. I give his relationship with Lauren 6 months, tops.

I disagree. I don’t think they would be under any illusions that they will have everyone cheering them on given what initially happened to Jason and Molly. IMO the easier route would be for him to quietly end it with Becca and not ask Lauren for another chance until later down the line when things have quieted down. Most Bach “engagements” end after a few months and nobody bats an eye. IMO Arie & Lauren deciding to take a risk now says maybe they are willing to endure the shtstorm to come because they feel it’s worth it.

As for the proposing thing, sure, it would have been nice if he hadn’t done it, but a proposal on The Bachelor IMO is widely accepted as an agreement to give a relationship a shot, not necessarily equal to a conventional engagement.

Because they think people will say they risk all for love. I am not buying it. To me, it’s cheat.
