The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) say they won't send athletes to compete at the Tokyo Games — set to begin July 24 — if they proceed as scheduled.

Backed by the Athletes' Commissions, National Sport Organizations and the Government of Canada, the COC and CPC say they "made the difficult decision to not send Canadian teams to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the summer of 2020."

The two committees are calling on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to postpone the Games for a year, citing the safety of athletes and the general public amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

I have a feeling that it has to be postponed. Apparently, a lot of athletes can't train and I imagine some will get Coronavirus so it would be irresponsible to hold them this summer, imo. Good for Canada! Olympics - Discussion - Page 14 1122970954

@albean99 IA and I can't believe the PM of Japan has been insisting they go on. Until just a few days ago when he started changing his tune to the "possibility" of postponing.

Is anyone watching? This has been one of my favourite events, both summer and winter for as long as I can remember but it's been difficult to get excited.

The opening ceremonies are on, although very very different, I'm now getting back into the groove of looking forward to watching the athletes compete and hearing their backstories which are always so heartwarming.

Normally I enjoy watching the Olympics but I'm uncertain this year. So many disappointments, not to mention the changes in the sports from when I was young! Have been to both summer and winter games and I'd choose winter anytime, even hockey!!!
