This is purely my opinion but I think TPTB were the ones to put forth the initial foiler of Peter as F1 and they didn't expect anyone to find out until much later. They then let Rachel announce the engagement so people would get invested in the Pachel love story IMO. If the new spoiler wasn't out, this would have been ideal situation for TPTB and audience (both spoiled and unspoiled) would be tuning in to see how Peter overcomes his issues to propose to Rachel. Instead, the new spoiler is out and SHV gate and the squad/Rachel have left very little room for any other outcome IMO. Some of my friends who watch it unspoiled now think that Peter will be F1 (like Ali) since the F1 always has some challenge to overcome and Bryan didn't have any (even her family gave their blessings in the end). IMO The twist this season is that there is no twist.

this happens each season IMO

- F2 is selected to be likable and handsome and is put front and center so the audience notice him immediately and follow him closely
- F1 is just playing pick a boo until mid-season with glimpses here and there so he is not completely a stranger but the audience do not know him.
- Once the F1 starts to be more obvious F2 fans are getting more and more frustrated because they did not see the love story with the F1 at all as their main focus was the F2

it is called EDITS and SCRIPT. Same script, new names each season. How many times did we hear THE MOST DRAMATIC SEASON?

I so totally agree with you.  Its like the F2 sets the tone for the season  with good looks and in  some cases resemble the type that the Lead usually goes for and this ensures a great first 1:1 date and viewers are hooked .  JMO

ETA: I find her behaviour the same as waiting for Brooks to come out of the bushes. She's usually pretty good at picking out the F1 but this time around, she's obsessed by the handsome model.
