Re: Bachelor 21 - Nick Viall - General Discussion - *Sleuthing Spoilers* #3
We shall see, but having watched every bach ever, I see him IMO as the most natural lead ever. I was shocked they didn't choose him for the 20th, but now is a better time for him. I can't wait.SueSt wrote:Pandora wrote:I think Jen was a "good enough" choice for Nick. I.e. she was attractive, intelligent, caring, funny, open, honest, etc. and would make a good wife. Hence the whole Nick speech regarding wanting to tell his heart to love her.
I don't see Nick as one to settle for "good enough" and I don't think he was ever going to be head over heels despite some attraction, so the breakup seemed right to me.
That said about his standards, he did almost propose to two Bachelorettes already. I think he may be overly impressed by fame (Bachelorette title = alpha woman, authority figure) and he may have let his fantasy of love get in the way and convince him that Andi or Kaitlyn was the one.
With Nick as lead, I am actually a bit afraid he will indeed wind up with no one. Or perhaps there is a good chance the cast will be full of strong women and he will go for the "villian." I think he is less likely to listen to other cast trying to badmouth a woman he really likes, even if the woman deserves it. Hey, if all fails, we could have Nick on for a second season of the Bachelor!
I jest, but Nick is probably my favorite cast member ever. I liked how Andi and Kaitlyn acted when they were around him vs. how each acted with her F1. Had to throw that in.
And with regards to him being feminine...quote Andi saying "that is a MAN" or Kaitlyn saying Nick makes her "feel like a woman, a desired woman." I don't think emotions are necessarily even on a feminine side, but are simply put, human. I think Nick would agree but I would have to pore over his twitter to be able to quote him on that, so that's JMO.
Really good post Pandora.
I'm also concerned with the outcome of this Bach format for Nick. I don't see him as a 'natural' lead... so I will be very interested to see how he handles the spotlight.
I have the feeling the Nick brought out deep feeling in both A & K but was rejected by each b/c they were ultimately uncomfortable by the intensity of their feelings in combination with Nick's less rigid (masculine) nature. ("You release all these feelings in me, but aren't strong enough to catch me when I fall")

I wonder who they were primarily casting for this season? I don't see women hoping for Luke being all that attracted to Nick (and some might say vice versa). Just like everyone about Nick, I think he's going to be very attractive to some people and not at all to others. it's not just about looks. His personality isn't for everyone either. I used to like him more in Andi's season but not sure about tv Nick which is what I see now. I think he helped himself on BIP but I doubt that will last once he does something that viewers don't like.
That's an interesting thought, ukglasgowkiiss. I'm sure some of the families may have preconceived ideas about Nick. I know I would. I always thought Brad (season 1) really liked Bettina but her family didn't seem impressed by him at all. Prior to that I thought she was potentially his f1.

I like Nick and Luke... so there!
It is interesting to watch our impressions of a contestant evolve as we see/learn more about them. I'm less sure about what Nick wants since Andi as well. I think it will definitely make for an interesting season.
And yes on the families ukglasgowkiiss!!

I don't know how similar Nick and Luke are in terms of values/lifestyle/culture (since I don't follow either), but from the little I've gathered, I suspect that they aren't that close, so I have a feeling that their compatible match would not be found in the same woman. That's not to say that a woman can't find both of them physically attractive. But it obviously has to go deeper than that.
That said, they usually cast a pretty broad cross section of women, a combination of ones who are compatible, ones who clearly aren't, some who are just in it for the exposure, and several crazies. I doubt this season will be any different. (I just hope they went a little older, but probably not).

It really doesn't matter who is cast in the lead role especially since every single one of them is in it for another reason other than Twu Wuv anyway. There's always only going to be just a few who are genuinely into the lead and this season isn't going to be any different than all the other ones on that front.

Re: Bachelor 21 - Nick Viall - General Discussion - *Sleuthing Spoilers* #3
I think that Nick knows that his previous choices (Andi, Kaitlyn, others) have not worked out *for a reason*, so with Jen he was trying out the idea of going in a somewhat different direction. I think he's on the right track but that Jen for whatever reason was not quite the right choice for him. You could see him trying very hard to make it work and make her be the right one, but she just wasn't.
That's why I think Nick is the right choice for the Bachelor at this time. It's a transition time for him. He's trying to get it figured out, and IMO it will be very enjoyable to watch that process. There will be some dominant women in the mix, some Jen-types, and many others as well. And somewhere in that mix I am hoping the right woman for him will emerge.

It is an interesting perspective IMO the POV of HTD families. (got to love autocorrect...it had my HTD with pot now wouldn't that be a great episode)
I would not want my single daughter to marry a man that's 36 and still kind of floating around in life and I like Nick.
Liking someone on tv and liking what is actually going on IRL are different things. Gave me pause, personally.

If my son wanted to date / get engaged to someone I didn't like, I don't think it would matter what my opinion was, and we are very close. Actually this did happen. I didn't have the hear to say I told you so, because it was such a nightmare.
Going to HTD's we always see parents favouring the F2. Does the lead really make their choice on who the parents like rather than the one they want? I hope not. It has to be their choice regardless of what anyone thinks, including family. If it's the wrong choice, then IMO it was meant to happen for a reason.
All the family can do is offer advise and opinions IMHO.

IMO the cast was originally picked with Luke in mind. However once Nick was announced as Bachelor MF, Elan and others actively were soliciting for women to apply who were interested in Nick. I don't know how much of the cast was adjusted but I think Nick and Luke have entirely different lifestyles and values and would appeal to different types of women. I imagine some fairly major casting changes and several late additions were made. CH has made it clear that they expect the ever so sincere Nick to find his HEA. 4th times a charm.

ukglasgowkiiss wrote:Have just had a thought about how the four hometowns might go. I am predicting that at least one or two families will not like Nick and have pre judgements based on watching the past seasons. I wonder if that happens how it might change who he chooses as his F2. Just a thought. All imo.
This is what is going to make Nick's season different, interesting and controversial, and if he ends up with an authentic engagement, his "journey" would have come full circle.
Would he pass the test in HTDs?
Will he do "fiancee" stuff with all 3 on FDs? Would he be open about it with all 3 if he does?
Will he end up engaged to the "villain"?
Will he walk away if he doesn't fall for anyone?
Will he get rejected again?
This could really be the most dramatic season ever.
