Harrison: He asked permission in other hometowns too and sometimes we show it and sometimes we don't. With that it was such a moment because he asked her and then Kimberly wasn't quite sure about her answer.

You are so right about this. Chris is almost an afterthought on his own season. They have shortened the time on the dates to the bare minimum and amped up time for the house drama. Which might explain why the episodes are getting wonky, with RCs pushed into the next episode. On this last episode did we get even 3/4 of it dedicated to HTDs? HTDs usually give you a more "real" insight into the relationships, since the family members can't be "directed" as easily--or at all.

So now we're at the point where the women are separated and they pretty much have to show us Chris interacting 1 on 1 with them. So they'll have to find a new strategy to make us think he's "in love with more than one person."

In the past, we've always watched for who the lead is chasing, but I don't know that we can follow that this year.  I'm not sure if Chris actually prefers doing the chasing or being chased.  He really can't go wrong, all of the F3 are great choices.  I'm just not sure he's the best choice for all of them!     With Becca and Whitney, he gets to have different roles in the relationships.  Which one type role does he prefer?  Will he and Whitney find a more even ground or will she always be more in charge of the relationship?  In all honesty, while I prefer the Chris I see with Becca.  I think he and Whitney have the best chance.  Because she was all in from the moment she opened the limo door.  She knew what she wanted and I don't think she'd give it up easily.  If she is indeed F1, I think she'll fight tooth and nail to build, make and sustain the relationship.

I love this post. Very well written. I agree with most of what you have said, except I am not so sure Whitney and Chris have the best chance. I personally think it is an uphill battle for the couple no matter who he chooses. Some have claimed Becca seems young, but to me she seems very mature for her age.

From the edit I agree that Chris is very different with each of the final 2. He definitely takes a backseat with Whitney. Maybe that is what he wants and needs. She is a sweetheart for sure. With Becca, they seem more compatible or to phrase it better, more on the same playing field. (Hope that makes sense.) I guess they seem to have a better "partnership," and this is something that works well in a lasting relationship. Des and Chris remind me of Becca and Chris, as far as how they interact together.

He has a hard choice and I bet was torn to the end. ;)

I've just watched the 3rd episode that cleared the sky for me. Very insightful, especially since I wasn't really catching Becca's minutes before.

I have my opinion of Chris, that despite my belief that he's genuine and real and honest, he has a side of his personality that we haven't been shown. (Well we have actually, few times, but it was always in the context were it slides over.) And that part of his character isn't that easy and "light".
So, I was considering Whitney to be his perfect match (absolutely), because with her strength of character and her determination and tenacity to make it work, she could handle it. She could. That's also something I read "between the lines" in Ladybug's comment. (and sorry Ladybug with most awesome avatar, if I misread)
But I agree with you Soccermom. I don't think Chris would.

So, I went back to re-watch Whitney's and Becca's HTDs. In particular I focused on the PIs. There was a vast difference in what I noticed. I find PIs interesting because I think these are the parts of the storyline that the editors need in order to create the story they want us to see. First here's what I observed...

With Whitney, both Whitney and Chris were narrating the date with various backgrounds and outfits. My guess is that all of Chris's PIs were done post filming in LA, except maybe the last one of his in my PI dump. That could possibly be from a hotel room. My guess is that all of Whitney's were done in Iowa...whatever hotel she stayed at. I think I see a headboard; as well, I don't recognized her background as coming from the mansion. (We have PIs of the girls in Bali with a completely different setting...so I don't think there.) I also don't think any came from Whitney's place or her sister's...unless the last one. The wall colors at each home were very light. Btw, the PIs are more or less in order as they appeared throughout the date. Towards the end, I starting skipping caps because I was capping repeatedly the same location with the same outfit.

In Becca's HTD, the were several narration scenes in the park...so actual ITMs. I didn't cap those as I didn't see these interviews as things the editors required to fill in the story. They already had the footage in front of them. I noticed that Chris almost exclusively narrated Becca's family time. During the Ferris wheel time, Becca exclusively narrated as she talked about her feelings. Again Chris's PIs are from post production, imo, except the very first one...hotel on the road of HTDs? My guess is that Becca's come from a hotel room in Iowa, but I'm not sure. Obviously, it's very different from Whitney's background. Would the girl's be separated at this point? Regardless, I think it's pre-Bali as Becca doesn't have as deep a tan as she later gets. She's actually beaming...so maybe it was immediately after their time...so maybe in her Louisiana hotel room.

What does this all mean? In some ways, I guess we'd need to look at the actual words spoken during these narrations...which is best done by actually watching and listening. Seemingly, the editors had to pull from several different interviews the comments they needed to shape Whitney's story. Whereas with Becca's, it seems like they were able to get what they needed from basically two interview sessions. (There were a gazillion PIs of the last two caps for them...I stopped making them as it became tedious.)

Does this bode better for one girl over the other? I honestly don't know. It just feels like there was more work on the editors part to create the storyline they wanted for Whitney. Does that mean Whitney was a shoe in from the start so they had to scramble to create the obstacle...or does it mean they didn't expect her to be in the F2 (because Britt) and had to scramble to create a storyline? Was Becca's storyline simply a gimme because of the obvious obstacle? Or maybe none of the above. This doesn't lead us any closer to the F1, but I thought I'd share anyway.

Oh, fun fact, the hospital in Highland Park where Whitney took Chris is the location where I get my mammograms. Too bad I was unspoiled at the time. I could have easily gone stalking for their date.

I would also add going on the assumption that I read in some thread that Chris had his sights and heart set fairly early on.   Now take a guilty person, as in one who commits a crime, and after the fact analyze what he says/does and how he says it.  If the premise of the assumption is correct then perhaps Chris is doing his best both consciously and unconsciously to hide his feelings in the PI's and general conversations with others.  My only experience with anything like this is when I know about a surprise and think about how many times I kick myself thinking the person will figure it out, only to find out later that they didn't have a clue.  I have chosen my words so carefully and yet always feel like I gave it away.

Can't tell you how much I enjoyed catching up and reading all the opinions in this thread. wow, great stuff!

I've seen Whitney referred to as a good (better?) match for Chris in this thread, because she's determined to make it work, but I actually see that to be the case with Becca. She's the kind of person who doesn't easily fall in love or even get attracted to people. Speaking from experience, when you're like that, you don't easily give up on love once you do find it. You know the grass isn't any greener on the other side, on the contrary it's really really hard to find that connection and attraction. Becca was stuck on her ex for 4 years even though she wasn't even truly in love. Clearly not a flighty person. JMO.
