Exactly. Graham left after HTD's, when Deanna had already spent significant time on him, a one on one (maybe two? I don't remember), and then HTD's. She was down to four guys.
In contrast, BNB never had a one on one, and left halfway through the third episode (and the season is what, 10 episodes long?). Ashley just had a crush and I think she realized that once she started developing feelings for the other guys.
Everyone has their own perspective, but I think Ashley had clearly moved on when she told JP "I'm telling you because I want YOU to know the whole journey" in Hong Kong.

What I want to know about Ben's proposal is that.. Do they play VOs of him being 100% sure he was the one?

Did Ashley meet with Chrystie before she brought Ben to meet them? If so, I'm pretty sure that Ashley was still feeling very raw about her battle with her sister and that would affect her, she says she has no poker face. :Frown:
They have a sneak peak of Ashley talking to her sister on two occasions and she starts crying the minute Chrystie expresses her opinion about JP. That would give it away to me. I don't get why Chrystie was so gaga over Brad and he was 38 years old. JP is 4 years younger than that. What 'lifestyle' is JP living? The big city life? Did Ashley say she wanted to live/have kids in a more diverse environment? Do they even know what kind of life she wants?
Anyway, who is going to tell Ben it wasn't JPs east coast lifestyle that gave him the edge? LOL! I guess he hasn't really been watching the parts with her and JP or maybe he's a little dense.

It's on the ABC website. I think it's called the mean sister or something like that.

I don't really get Chrystie or where she's coming from with the "handle" Ashley part? It seriously sounds like a sexual thing when I think about it. Anyway, IA that Ashley's demeanor gives everything away both times. She's basically saying "This is The One, Chrystie, chill, dawg."
I don't have any sisters but I do have some insanely close BFFs and we've definitely had reactions to each others choices in guys sometimes like, "Are you joking? He's never coming near you again! Stop smoking!" But if one of them started reacting like Ash, I would hope that I would take a step back and realize that something is up here. I'm glad she's Team Cupcake now though. I don't understand how one wouldn't be after watching this season.
As for Ben, I need to see it but it's utterly ridiculous to claim that JP was the "safe" choice. If he saw the season, he now knows that JP was the only choice. She was totally different with him and their interactions were on a completely different plane than any other relationship she had going on. I guess he's hurting (still?) so that's why he says it. I do love that it sounds like Ashley turns it around with "no, buddy, YOU were the safe choice." Although, I hate the whole "safe/head" versus "unsafe/heart" choice. Ugh. This isn't a rom-com or Sex and the City, but whatever.

Well, Ben is hurt and he's probably never been turned down by a girl before. If he couldn't even speak with Ashley after she refused his proposal then I'm guessing he didn't watch the show much.

I think I get what Chrystie meant about Ashley being too much. We obviously got the wrong edit of Ben. He's a lot more outgoing and crazy than we've seen on the show. His friends say he likes being center stage. I hope he's not a "Jake."
JP was a little intense but he's basically a quiet kinda guy and Ashley is a ball of energy. While I think he was probably really nervous/scared about meeting her family, he probably came off as too serious and stiff. I'd be a little more concerned about Brad's bar owning lifestyle, his pushing 40 and still being single and on the Bach for he 2nd time than I would JP, who went to college and grad school, and was still single. Do they think he's out womanizing or what? She doesn't make sense but at least she watches the season and sees the obvious. She may think JP just seems ready to settle down and may not be 'exciting' enough for Ashley. I wondered about that too. BUT, I think Ben's boring kisses would be more frustrating than JP being more of a home body - if that's even the case. I think they will do just fine. He seems to have a lot of friends. Ashley has AshleyS in town and there are more alum there too if noone else. Graham, Ames, Jackie ... Things won't be so boring.

sjcaligurl, I am just agreeing with you all over the place this morning.
I think the other thing that Ashley's sister might have overlooked is that Ashley is graduating from dental school, and even without a man, would be settling into a city and starting her dental practice. By necessity she is going to have a more serious lifestyle than she did going through college and dental school.
It will be interesting to see the episode and hear more of the interactions between them. I really tend to think Chrystie was just drama-queening it up to (subconsciously) steal a bit of Ashley's thunder.

I couldn't agree more about the Ben F edit. Ashley confirmed it in her HTD blog where she said she'd expected Ben F's family to be loud and goofy like him. I don't think he's a Jake but it's obvious he got the CL treatment where we only saw the thinker/griever edit when he's also got a very extroverted side to him.sjcaligurl wrote:I think I get what Chrystie meant about Ashley being too much. I see some New York mouthy in JP in that he's very straightforward. So I don't know if I agree he's a quiet kind of guy. I also see a guy who at least on TV had to do a lot of internal rationalizing because of the show's circumstances. I think he was quieter because there was stuff he didn't want on camera.
I thought the clip with Chrystie was interesting. I do agree Chrystie has a sensitivity chip missing though the situation was probably played up for the cameras but at the same time, she put some stuff out there that apparently Ashley had considered herself in some way. And by the way those things are things Ashley SHOULD be considering as she tries to figure out if this is something they want to and can make work long term. I always say this show makes a mockery of the concept of an engagement but if the leads and their F1s really do think through the kinds of issues Ashley apparently considered, then I feel better about them making the commitment of getting engaged.
At the end of the day IMO it was a good and smart choice for Ashley to choose the guy who'll help her to grow up especially since he's the guy she was also more emotionally and physically connected to. I agree with sunnymicki that Ashley's in a transitional time in her life anyway and it's a time where it's natural for her to be thinking about settling down in her lifestyle too. New York's a place where she'll be able to feed her other passions without too much trouble too.

I think Chrystie liked the idea of having a "relative" with bars. JMO.

Chrystie likes the bar owner and the wine maker. LOL!! Somebody needs to tell her it's not about her! LOL!
ETA: Oh, and I re-watched Ashley's HTD w/Brad and she didn't seem all that into him to me. He kept touching her but she was no where near with him the way she is with JP or even Ben. I think she quickly disputes Chrystie's mention of the way she was with Brad compared to either of the guys.
