I would think that for legal reasons, the couple needs to state they are open to a TV wedding for as long as possible- so that if tptb pass on it they can say they were open to it and negotiate a deal so that they can sell pictures and set up their own deals with vendors, especially. Andi would be all over this (as an attorney- even if she was in the DA's office, she took a class or two in contracts). The only real bargaining chip they have is their willingness for the TV wedding.
Eventually tptb will have to decide one way or another. I would expect that Josh and Andi will give them a window of acceptable dates (based especially on Aaron's (the presumed best man) availability and go from there.
Still, if the wedding is not until May I would expect we wouldn't hear anything about it until at least February, if not until the Bach finale.

Amazing interview!! I love how they are with each other. Thanks for the heads up.
Don't judge people on who they used to be. Allow them to be who they are. See them "now". Not "then".

I mean, they're getting married next spring/summer regardless of whether or not it's going to be televised. But planning a wedding is kind of a huge undertaking and they really need to have some stuff firmed up at this point -- they can't just be twiddling their thumbs waiting to get the green light from ABC. So do we think they already know 100% that it's going to be televised and they're just not saying? Or are they just expected to go ahead and make their own plans, and the network will give them a Yea or Nay in the next few months, in which case ABC will then step in and take over the rest of the planning? I'm totally confused about how this whole thing would work. Like, they must know, right, and they're just being coy?
Aviej, that's definitely a good point about summer being more convenient for the network. I know Andi wanted to get married on May 9th but as we determined before, that would potentially interfere with the end of Bachelorette filming. Although as Ash mentioned some time ago, airing Andi and Josh's wedding just before the premiere of the new Bachelorette season would actually be perfect timing. Basically I just want them to have the wedding they want, when they want it. And if the network isn't cooperating I hope they just do their own thing. It'll be beautiful regardless and we'll still get lots of pictures!
Per the bolded above:
JMO--but I don't think so. My understanding of the weddings done recently, the couples were notified pretty much last minute. There were quite a few things not under the couple's control which ended up being fine if they wanted TB/ABC doing the wedding. The attitude for certain things was "this is how this is going to be". This worked out well for the past 2 couples.
So my take, by going by the past 2 recent weddings, for any future couple courting the idea of a network wedding, they will have to play ball with the network and wait to see if they will get a deal and then plans will be made and not the other way around.
This is all very true. I'm not 100% on how long they delayed JP/Ashley's wedding, but I know SeanCat's wedding date was pushed around a few times before they finally made the decision. If Josh/Andi want their free tv wedding, they are gonna have to be patient and willing to give a little with the network. The ball is really always in the network's court.

But how last-minute is last-minute, exactly? (Not arguing with you -- just trying to wrap my head around how this whole thing works.) Thinking about Ashley and JP's wedding, for example. Had they always planned on getting married in California? She had talked about wanting to do it in New York, so I assumed it was in California at the network's insistence. But they wouldn't have chosen a date and booked a New York venue and started making east-coast plans, only to have the network jump in six months later and announce that they were moving everything to CA, right? That seems kind of risky and frankly sort of rude. (Not that they probably care about making friends.) What if Andi and Josh have already booked a church and reception hall and caterer and florist and photographer -- is ABC going to inform them in February that Oops! We're doing it in Santa Barbara now. You'll have to cancel everything, and too bad about all those deposits! Would it really happen like that?Kashathediva wrote:My understanding of the weddings done recently, the couples were notified pretty much last minute. It's my understanding the Bachelor contract prohibits the couple from selling wedding photos. Maybe someone with a copy of a previous contract, maybe Kasha or jlccaz, could weight in?

I believe that's true, but I do think that there might be some recourse if tptb pass on the wedding when its been made available to them.... if Des and Chris didn't make that happen I would thing Andi, for sure, would force some sort of arbitration- especially by claiming full willingness to have the wedding televised. If there's a way, the lawyer will find it!

I know both Lucas and JL know the specifics.
My memory says that TPTB own certain rights(photo/filming) for 2 yrs. That is very sketchy at best for the deets, but enough to know they are not exactly free of TPTB if they choose to go solo.
My understanding is the couple has not had a say in dates. It would be nice to think that TPTB say: "so how do you want your wedding and what do you think?" It's more like "this is what we are planning for you, we know you will love it." And really if someone is throwing you a once in a life time event---you probably will unless you can afford it yourself.

The following is from an interview Chris gave on Oct 28, which pretty much explains ABC's stance. ABC's primary objective or any corporation for that matter, as mandated in the articles of incorporation, is to make money for its shareholders..and this guides their business decisions.
"We wanted to share it with everyone,” he tells the Puget Sound Business Journal, “because they wanted to see it.” But because the show’s ratings have taken a hit in recent years, “It's not cost effective for them… we are interested but right now I don't think it is in the cards."

I think followers on SM make a difference, too, in projecting ratings. That would at least give some hope for Andi and Josh who have a lot more followers on SM- and I think they have a greater willingness to generate more.
I admire Des and Chris for being very true to themselves, and I don't think either of them is inclined to heavily promote themselves. I think Andi and Josh are much more likely to happily do any and all media required of them to promote at tv wedding.

Well maybe we can all say that if JODI wedding is not televised we will boycott Chris's season and make their rating drop even more. If only that would work!
