There is no way to know how much of the conversation we didn't get to see.Sprite wrote:cindebugg wrote:grace8136 wrote:I know he had an injury. She should doubt Josh. He told her he quit baseball to have a family. That was a lie. He was still young then and went back to school. No one quits major league baseball, he simply wasn't good enough. That is not a disgrace, he made it quite far. That whole conversation was full of bs. i get that they look like the perfect couple. She looks like Josh's mom and sister, but compared to Marcus, I don't understand the pull to him. Maybe she doesn't like that Marcus is younger? Could the producers not insist on a fantasy suite date for our benefit? Marcus is good TV!
I'm sure he would be playing ball if he had made it to the majors. The fact is he languished in the minors for 5 years where he spent a lot of time on smelly buses going from Podunk town to Podunk town with men who were much older than he. It's obvious after listening to him talk about it on their date that it affected him. He probably saw a lot of infidelity and bad behavior. It doesn't mean he was lying to Andi since they were talking in context to him being in the minors and not the big leagues. I would imagine that playing in the major leagues is much more conducive to having a family than the minors. You can spend a lot more quality time with your family when you get to fly home instead of bussing it.
As for whether Josh has slept with anyone in the last 5 years, who knows. It doesn't mean he's dating them or even exclusive with them. He could have had 50 dates with 50 different women but it doesn't mean he's dating them. For me there's a difference between a date and dating.
I agree that Josh being drafted at 17 is impressive but even more impressive to me is him letting go of something he loved (baseball) in order to have a family and be present and there for them in the future. Also impressed that he went back to school and made the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. He's no dumb jock.
I'm calling foul. I'm sorry but the whole giving up ball (which I also don't buy...he just wasn't good enough...he was in the minors for 5 years), to start a family is BS. If you are so keen to start a family, then you date...to meet that special someone. You don't do the exact opposite.
It's a lot easier on the ego to say, I wanted to go another direction vs I sucked. It makes a lot better tv, too.
I have a feeling in the entire discussion, he may have said things would have been different if he had been called up to the majors immediately. We know in any convo--most is left on the cutting room floor.
To me the important thing is he got to live his dream and chose to move on and he continues to live life knowing there are wonderful things out there to experience. Nothing is sadder than the person who can't get past that dream and is still stuck in that rut, oblivious to all the other great things out there to experience.
I do know baseball ---my brother-in-law was called up to pitch for the Giants as a "kid". He blew his pitching arm the first season. Talk about blowing a dream. He has never gotten past it--Never.
My nephew was offered something similar to Josh. He chose not to go that option, but go to college at 18. He is a working his way up as a tv sportscaster.

There are two other possibilities re: Josh for TB - (1) He was the chosen one but they are already in the outs and thankful for TB opportunity that he did not ask for but fell on his lap. (2) There is no chosen ONE, and he landed the TB gig recently. Family knew this opportunity is about to happen so they are all friendly with Andi and fam. (Just throwing it out there, spoiling the spoiler-ish).
Need to do something productive and stop hanging out in this forum (after Nick's season)

I personally know what it is to work hard towards something, see it at arms grasp, and realize that's not the life I want to live.
Josh does talk a little too much about sports for my taste, but that's one of the things he's passionate about, so its to be expected. I can hardly equate giving up pursing that dream with no longer being physically able to play. With an injury and pressure at such a young age, you see a lot of the ugly that comes with that "glorified" lifestyle. I say good for him. He poured his sweat into getting a degree for a job that allows him more time with his future family, more power to him.
But please Josh, let's move on, shall we? I'd like to hear about your favorite color, animal, etc.

No doubt that there is a lot of sports talk. However, I think it is something they have in common as Andi is also an athlete. In addition, Andi often is the one who brings up the topic.

IMO, I think Andi intentionally keeps the conversation focus of him being a "Jock," and why he hasn't dated in 5 years. I really think that Josh is getting a F2 edit.docnash14 wrote:BachfanNY wrote:I personally know what it is to work hard towards something, see it at arms grasp, and realize that's not the life I want to live.

Agree. And as a rabid sports fan (football especially!) and former softball player, I have no problem with Josh's sports talk and absolute interest in sports. I like that side of him.docnash14 wrote:BachfanNY wrote:I personally know what it is to work hard towards something, see it at arms grasp, and realize that's not the life I want to live.

I didn't find anything deceitful in the way Josh explained his transition out of baseball. It makes sense to me that a 17 year old kid with stars in his eyes would lose some of that enthusiasm by the time he was 22, after spending 5 years going from Podunk town to Podunk town with a bunch of older "never was" types (some of whom probably were drinking heavily, carousing and cheating on their spouses). So the combination of not making it to the majors yet, not enjoying the lifestyle, being homesick for his family, and then sustaining a serious injury all played a part in turning him off his childhood dream. What we saw was a very abbreviated (edited?) version of that explanation.
And saying that he quit because he wanted a family life doesn't mean he was interested, at 22, in immediately becoming a husband/father. IMO, it means he didn't want a life on the road where one rarely saw one's family, be it parents and siblings, or spouse and children, or in his case, both eventually.
I also don't see someone who began in the minors at 17 not making it to the major leagues by the age of 22 as a failure/loser. Had he stayed healthy, maybe he would have in a year or two, who knows? There are guys (probably some of the ones he played with) who spend 10-15 years in the minors until they are in their 30s (Bull Durham, anyone?). These guys are most likely never going to get called up to "the show" and they are certainly well aware of it but continue to play anyway, as long as a team will have them. Josh does not fall into that category.

Remember it is the edit which has focused primarily on the topic of Josh as a Jock. Pretty sure they have had other conversations which deliberately have not aired.

Exactly, The problem is can Andi believe and trust Josh. Will she realize that her type doesn't mean that they are all the same. Can Josh overcome this obstacle and make her ses this,
