I know different people look to different things as an indication of who is F1...music, adrenaline dates, date order, edit and how it compares to other seasons, obvious vs not. To me all those things are suggestive. What I see as obvious, someone else sees as hidden...it all depends on your personal experiences and your personal perspective. To me the biggest thing that indicates who is F1 is the level of attraction. And by level of attraction I don't just mean the obvious physical attraction, but also how much of an interest the lead shows in what the person is saying and getting to know them, how they listen to that person, how they observe that person even if in group settings, how much of an effort do they make to draw that person out and comfort them when they are stressed, how does their interaction differ from others? Who is the lead chasing? They can try to edit it out as deemed necessary, but that attraction is always there. They will always leave some of it in because they have to in order to at least have some hints of romance. Everything else can be changed and varied each season, but the attraction must stay.

Many here are comparing this season with the last one. As much as Brad spoke about Whitney and his attraction to her last season, she was a cause of drama with the other women and he didn't like that. Yes, he was very attracted to her physically and many were worried he couldn't think straight with her, but he was not a fan of much of the drama she brought. He was attracted to Bianca and said from the start that he didn't think she was into him...hence why he was thinking of sending her home. He was worried about her feelings for him. He never expressed that about Whitney. He knew she was all about him and while he was very attracted initially, that attraction veined as the drama built up. (Kaylynn anyone?) This season, to me, Tim is about April. He chases her literally and figuratively. Nobody else. Nobody....at least up to this point. Now, that doesn't mean that things can't change as he gets to know everyone better, but they better change very fast since we are down to the nitty gritty and if it is anyone else, I couldn't image her being very happy about what we have seen thus far.

Sprite, great post. Well said. That's how I see it. I would welcome opinions of the other side of the coin as to any other potential F1 and what they see.

Bachelor Canada - Season 2 - *Sleuthing - *Spoilers* - *Speculation* - Discussion - Page 32 Empty Re: Bachelor Canada - Season 2 - *Sleuthing - *Spoilers* - *Speculation* - Discussion

I agree with GA ... well worded post Sprite. I've become tired of the US Bach and haven't watched JP or Andi's season, had absolutely not interest in them nor all the drama that's become so common from that bunch of producers. It's become tiresome. I'm a huge Bach fan.. and totally miss it the old way. Oh, and RS.. he's ruined it for me. I think that's why I enjoy the Canadian Bach so much. Yes there's drama... but it's more old school Bach for me, where a love match is still the desired result of all concerned and they don't mind helping the lead reach that goal and let them do what they feel they have to do.. and even get him to keep a girl that they think is right for him. Love this group of watchers too.. adds to my enjoyment of the show. I may not always agree with what's said, but do appreciate all opinions and contributions to the gathering of info.

bestbud!

thumbsup Great post, Sprite! Love it!

Regarding the bold, like you, for me this is the key in regards to F1. Is the lead wanting to know more about the person and have her know more about him? Who is the lead chasing? Initially, like you said, it may be about physical connection/attraction, but the deeper connection, and the lead trying to bring that out, is what indicates who the F1 may be. The "will this work in the real world"... "is she as into me as I am into her?" chase. April is the only one that fits into being chased (as you said, literally and figuratively) and thus F1.

Tim said he waited a long time to have his date with April in his HT and he also stated in his blog that it was to answer any of April's doubts/questions (fitting in his world, who he is, what makes him, him). He could sense her doubt but wanted her to open up and to trust him. He wanted to know more about her and to do so he showed more of himself. HTDs are usually where the lead gets to see if he fits into the world of one of the girls, the fact that Tim had a HTD of his own, shows he wanted someone (April) to see if they would want to fit in his world. He introduces April to his best friend+fiance and then on his own meets with his parents as well, in interviews stating that they saw his smile and knew he would have a positive ending? His HTD was actually Tim putting himself on the block, so to speak. April stated in her blog that she didn't want to meet his best friend, that it was 'unwanted' because it was too serious too fast. But she said that she was mistaken and it actually helped her learn more about Tim. And that was his point in doing that - to reveal more of himself to her in order to gain her trust and hopefully answer any questions/doubts she had about him.

As obvious as it may seem that April is F1, it is obvious for the simple reason of who the lead is chasing. It is never about his doubts about the girl but about reassuring any doubts the girl may have about him (or the process). Brad has stated in his blogs that April makes Tim work for it and that is what guys do when they are truly interested. This courting ritual, of the guy chasing the girl, does not disappear just because one is on a show. If anything, it probably heightens that feeling in the lead, propels them to chase harder, faster, and sooner.

This male chasing woman scenario is centuries old, ingrained in the social fabric of male-female courtship. Put one man in a world of The Bachelor and that will come to the forefront, each and every time. No matter what else happens, it is the constant. Tim has shown thus far that he is chasing April... and April wants to be chased.

Case in point: April's own intro on Episode 1, she says how it may be harder for a guy to get her but that she believes that she will be worth it for him in the end. There is playing hard to get and then there just is hard to get, based on hesitancy regarding the whole experience of being on a show to find love and/or one's past experiences. In April's case, a 7 yr relationship where her trust was betrayed shows this girl can commit (she thought she would marry her ex/7 years is a long time) so she won't go into anything rushed. It is important to note that, given what we know from what we saw (Tim+April at his life-changing spot) and her blog (April meeting Tim's best friend) how they ended their date... Tim tells her he wants her to stick around and then asks her "do you want to stick around?" He had just given her a day of being in 'the life of Tim' and was still chasing her... Smiley

The fact that the Canadian franchise is different from the USA one complete with different editors, producers, production company and how they edited season one was different than how the USA edits their seasons. For that reason among others, I feel that we can't use "blanket" editing tricks. editing meaning who says what about whom - this includes what the lead says as well as the ladies. For that reason, are we getting the true edit? In season 1, Brad kept talking about his connection with Whitney, his feelings towards her, how they connected from beginning to end and so much more. With that in mind, to me, it goes along what Tim is being edited to say with April. When it came down to Brad telling Whitney about his history(the backstory on the tattoo and him crying), etc, it was all with the same words/phrases that Tim used on April with regards to letting her in with him. So much of how April is being edited with regards to the back story, how Tim wants to let her in so that she will open up to him is exactly what Brad said about Whitney. If that's the case, it really doesn't lend well to April being F1.

Auntie I am not looking at blanket editing tricks. We can always say we are not being shown everything, they are leaving stuff out and they are showing us what they want to show us. In this case, they are showing us April. (I am not going to compare Bianca/Whitney/April and the previous season because it is only one season of comparison and I don't necessarily agree with your assessment of the Whitney connection. To me that was a strong physical attraction that veined as the season progressed and she ramped up the drama and the nasty.)

I just have not seen the interaction with any of the women that I have with April...not even close. It's clear he likes all of them. He finds some interesting and funny. Some are more adventurous. Others are sweet and clearly in the friend zone. Yes, they may have left out some interactions, but to create doubt about which girl he chooses there needs to be stuff in there about connections with others...and frankly, as of now, I don't see it. I see like, respect, fun, empathy, kindness, but not an potential romantic long term relationship other than her.

I respect that you think they can edit things similarly as in the past, but having only one other Canadian season isn't enough of a history for a proper comparison in my opinion. Other than that editing comparison, is there anything else that makes you think that it is someone else as the F1?

Bachelor Canada - Season 2 - *Sleuthing - *Spoilers* - *Speculation* - Discussion - Page 32 Empty Re: Bachelor Canada - Season 2 - *Sleuthing - *Spoilers* - *Speculation* - Discussion

Post by 4health Fri Oct 17, 2014 3:06 am

Sorry I haven't posted tonight.  I have been out for the night but when I came back I feel like a missed a lot.  Plus, I have to say thanks to Auntie's Love for keeping it going....haha

So I found a few posts very interesting and I didn't want to directly quote but I want to put this in writing for whatever it's worth.

I am posting these because it is what is actually editing in....not actual 1:1 time etc. but VOs, PI's and ITM's of Tim about who I think will be the F2.   I agree with whom ever stated Sachelle is in the friend zone, Lisa is drama queen and Kaylynn is too emotional to quick so that leaves April and Trisha (once again highlight videos, just saying LOL)

Episode 2
Group Boat racing date and Trisha receives the group rose.
When Trisha goes and interrupts April B. and Tim, Tim has a VO as Trisha goes and sits by him and Tim puts his arm around her.

VO Trish is the most interesting person that I want to talk to
-cut-
ITM I don't know a lot about her
-cut-
1:1 time - Tim asks about her pageants
laughing

Tim gives out group rose to Trisha and he says "Trisha"  but when he did the VO's he says Trish.

In his blog Tim mentions that there were some surprises that night

Episode 3 - beach date no 1:1 time shown

Episode 4 - 2:1 date with Rileigh
Pi (Tim in Black V-neck same as his this date)
"it is very safe to say am attracted to"
-cut-
VO "Rileigh and Trish, I just don't know where it will go with either one"
this forces you to make a decision"

VO "I have a hard decision ahead of me"

VO "Both of these ladies are very similar, they are fun loving people"

VO "I want to know if there is any seriousness beyond that"

PI Tim in light blue T-shirt from shark date
"I do need that connect with somebody"
-cut to on the boat-

VO "This date is about finding out which one of these women I"
-cut-
PI Black V neck "can build a life with"

VO "Trish is a very comfortable person to be around. She is very light hearted."

ITM - Black V neck on the boat
"I guess what I am looking for from Trish is if that goes any deeper"
- cut -
PI Black V neck
"It actually got really interesting in terms of telling me about"
-cut-
VO "of things being very difficult in her life."

VO "that is a very significant thing to happen in your life"

ITM Tim on boat "she is a very strong person"
-cut-
VO "to know that that wasn't right for her, it really shows a lot about somebody"

Tim making his choice - giving the rose
Trisha - "Fun, Strong, and been through a lot in your life, I empathize with you a lot"

walks Rileigh to boat and she says "be good to her" and you see Tim say "I will" and shakes his head.  Then ocean scene and a passionate kiss.

Episode 5 - Wonderland Date - Tim chooses Trish to be pegged as the one person to have the most fun!  Also, he says that he thinks he has spent a lot of time with each of the girls and thought for sure Trish would put the pedal to the metal and called her a grandma.  Trish gets first rose.   Plus, Trish is the only girl that they show Tim & her hug at the welcome and once again at the RC....if you go re-watch the hug Tim lefts Trish off the ground and it really hugs her and then leaves his hands on her hips and makes eye contact.

I will do the same thing for April maybe tomorrow.  I have started it and the one thing I want to mention quickly is that during the photoshot Tim had VO's about each of the girls before their photoshot with the exception of April.  April was the one doing the commentary during the entire photoshot.  I found that interesting, it had April speaking about their connection and chemistry and that she look forward to seeing where this would go.

I just think when someone posted that Tim stated that he didn't have any connection with Trish just isn't right in my book and I had to document that he did mention his interest in her from Epi 2 and she got the rose and she had the most romantic 1:1 so far with the private island.  JMO

Now, that doesn't mean that things can't change as he gets to know everyone better, but they better change very fast since we are down to the nitty gritty and if it is anyone else, I couldn't image her being very happy about what we have seen thus far.
thumbsup Great post, Sprite!

Aunties Love, I am loving seeing your perspective. Keeps me on my toes. Especially your focus on Trisha (I saw April and Trisha as the main girls from episode 1)...

I guess I am focusing on the constant (who the lead chases) rather than production, edit (obvious vs hidden) or past seasons. For example, other than looking at TBUSA, when looking at another TB franchise in its infancy, The Bachelor Australia season 1, the edit is the same as Brad and Biancas, with Anna being more hidden with Tim (Australia) as Bianca was. With regards to season 2 of TBAustralia, Sam (the F1) was obvious from the get go and to everyone, the viewers and the contestants. Either way, the constant between these differing edits (hidden vs. obvious) is that the lead still chased the F1 more than he chased the others.

What I notice is what Tim has done regarding Trisha. As much as one can say he has focused on her, which is true, one can counterbalance that with some very unfocused behaviour as well:
- On Ep5 Wonderland date, Tim makes out with Kaylynn right in front of Trisha (she could see it)
- On Ep 4 2-on-1 Date, Trisha asks Tim whom he wished he had along with him (the show) and Tim tells her his best guy friends. The next date he takes April, not Trisha, to meet his best guy friend...
- On Ep 3 Tim goes to find April who wandered off on her own on the beach and Trisha doesn't seem too chuffed about it

Despite this, I can see where you are coming from, specifically based on the 'hidden edit'. I did say in the first episode thread that this is between April and Trisha, with possible April as F1 and Trisha as F2 (possibly could be F1 if she is hidden and it is a hidden edit). Imo, based on Trisha and April being in the intro videos and the camera focusing on her a lot, when she wasn't saying anything, just panning to her face. She was also the last rose handed out, which usually is done on purpose to add to the suspense. What I find interesting is what Tim said about and to Trisha on the 2-on-1 date. Trisha tells Tim about her 8 year relationship, that she got engaged, and that she broke off her engagement because she just knew it wasn't meant to be for her, even though there was nothing wrong. One can look at this and see Tim feeling the same way and thus has a feeling about Trisha that he wants to keep her because it is just right. Conversely, one can look at this as keeping Trisha towards the end, and especially if it is April and Trisha as the last F2 girls, telling Trisha that there is nothing wrong, but that it is just the intangible feeling that Trisha herself had so she would understand if she is not F1.

P.S. I think that it is difficult to not make April F1 because we have sleuthed that she not only gets a HTD but also is seen in Moorea. So that knowledge correlates with what has been shown thus far with Tim's own HTD and her being an obvious edit and F1. I guess, for me, I prefer the obvious love story line. Yes there is not as much suspense or mystery, but life is mystery enough and so I like watching two people fall in love and having the suspense as filler to keep some action going. That is just my own preference though and of course can skew my view and make me biased. Love reading your perspective though! It keeps me looking for more clues/confirmations rather than just writing it off.  Smiley

AllAboutLove, great post....I didn't quote because it was getting long LOL.

My questions that still give me pause are:

! - Why only show April in Moorea? We know now that Trisha gets a pretty romantic date next week and not one SC was ever shown but Sachelle's was and if April's 1:1 (Tim's hometown) was so special why have it all over the previews? and Tim didn't really mention anything special. (not wanting to give anything away?)

2 - I noticed in Tim's blogs when he talks about his dates and 1:1 time etc. he doesn't mention the girls last name, but twice he has mentioned April's dates (photoshot and Toronto) he states April Brockman. Why so formal?

3 - Also I noticed reading the blogs that Trisha's blogs are very short compared to the others. She isn't really giving things away. Intentional or just her style?

I know there are a few more but just having some fun~!

^^ I appreciate all your effort 4health. I am looking forward to what you have about April tomorrow...or should I say later today.

One thing I want to say for myself...I see a connection with everyone left...it's just not necessarily a romantic connection. To that point, you quoted Tim talking about Trish..."I want to know if there is any seriousness beyond that" and "I guess what I am looking for from Trish is if that goes any deeper". To me this is typical, generic, Bachelor speak and is basically a diplomatic way of saying "I don't see anything there right now and doubt that anything can develop but, I have a show to do so I have to pretend to give it a try".

I don't know if I can explain this so that it makes sense to others...it is so much easier making sense in my own head...but, when I look for signs if someone is a potential F1, I am looking for more direct and positive type clues. By that I mean that ideally I look for the lead speaking to the camera and saying a name. VO's can be edited more easily and taken out of context, although, if they include a name and are shown over the person being talked about, usually it signifies that they are trying to tell us something about the plot/relationship. But it's not just what is said. It is how it is said...tone, facial expression, body language. That is why direct interaction with the camera is the best.

When the lead is talking about someone, I look for more positive statements about them vs. more questioning. For example, the two quotes above are negative clues for me. They express doubt that there is anything there vs positive clues which are more hopeful. So saying, "I want so and so to open up to me" indicates that the lead is interested in that person and it is important for the lead to get to know that person. Saying "I can see/imagine what my life with X will be like" is also showing that the lead can see a longer term potential with that person. Hearing that "this relationship is developing slower than the rest" is usually the kiss of death in Bachelor speak.

It's not an exact science and as I said, I'm not sure if I can fully explain my reasoning...particularly when I have to type it all out rather than just have a conversation with someone. It makes sense and works for me. The rest of you....you're on your own.

Haha, loving the questions 4Health...

I think one of the hardest things to do must be to choose an F1 that was obvious and then for 3+ months pretend it wasn't obvious. LOL. Just my thinking...

Regarding #1. There are a couple of options:
- she is the only one there
- she is sent home in Moorea
- she leaves on her own in Moorea
- they only had so many minutes to put into each episode and that one was the most suspenseful (she is crying, saying she cannot do this anymore, she wants to go home)
- she is F1 and the producers want us to wonder why she is getting a preview of her in Moorea to put some doubt in what is already obvious
- any other reason we can conjure up... haha

Regarding #2:
- from the first episode, there were two April B's and so Tim got used to calling her this when speaking about her.
- Brad in his blog posts calls her AB or April Brockman
- it may seem formal but to me it seems more significant in her having something different from the rest of the girls. Tim has to expend more time and energy saying her full name. He even has to type longer, haha.
- Maybe it has something to do with "April Brockman, will you marry me?' Haha
- What I noticed in Tim's blog post about episode 5 was this.....

"April Brockman and I had a date." http://www.bachelorcanada.ca/this-is-getting-real/

This entry on his blog seems so profound. I read it as if it was a journal entry. Tim had stated during his HTD with April that he had waited a long time for this. To me, him saying "April Brockman and I had a date" and it is just one sentence is huge. He easily could have said, "On my date with April Brockman, we blah blah blah." It is one sentence. Personalized. Emphatic. (A guy seldom uses exclamation points. If this was a girl's sentence it would be "Tim and I had a date!!!!!" giggling )

We know he introduced her to his best friend+fiance (he had told Trisha previously in Ep4 that if he could have anyone with him on this journey it would be his best friends). His blog entry and his wording makes me think of a young teenager who is in love and has finally gotten a chance to go on a date and went on this dream date and the first they they did was write it down in their journal (mark the occasion, so to speak). Again, just my thoughts... Smiley

Also the comment you stated was a PI and you don't know when this was done and edited there to make the 2:1 decision look tough....it wasn't a ITM so for you to come to the conclusion is making a pretty big leap in my book.

I don't know if I can explain this so that it makes sense to others...it is so much easier making sense in my own head...but, when I look for signs if someone is a potential F1, I am looking for more direct and positive type clues.
