Having moved from rural Missouri to the suburbs of NNJ, I agree 100%, Mtnlvr.
When we first moved here, the biggest culture shock was getting used to the people thinking living in NYC were the be all, end all. State of the art. no no
Our salaries did not move up the scale considerably as most people think, but cost of housing, taxes and about everything else sure did. A LOT!!  I was a happy stay at home mom in the midwest. I was back in the work force in the NYC area. Our home in rural MO was 4000 sq ft paid.  Here is it 2800 sq ft paid now, but mortgaged then.
Culturally, the difference is huge and of course, living a city life there is a lot more on the plus side. A LOT!! No comparison there, imo.
Many of the services provided are still behind the times. We had 911 20+ yrs ago in the midwest--it was not here(NYC area yet, of course, it is now). The fire dept and emt's are voluntary services here still, not so where we came from 20+ yrs ago.

So many plus and minus on both sides. I am glad I got to experience both.

Where in Missouri? All of my family, both sides, are from a small town in the boot heel of Missouri, Portageville and Boekerton. Happy New Year!

(this isn't meant as a personal attack against Sara11--please don't take it as such) However, being wealthy in Iowa means that your money goes further. Chris's house, although not lavish, is comfortable from what we saw. He drives a pick-up truck not a Benz, but his tractor cost 3/4 of a million dollars. What being rich in Iowa means is that you have the ability to travel, drink fine wine (which his family seemed to like) purchase nice clothes and potentially retire young- if you want to . You are not living in a multi-million dollar house, paying taxes that are more than the average house payment, but you are comfortable, happy, and able to enjoy elements of the "good life." I could spend all day defending Iowa and the midwest but I won't likely convince those that don't like it or have never been here and assume that it is nothing here other than cornfields and pigs. Hugesmile So I step off my soapbox :soapbox and move on to watching and hopefully loving the new season featuring the good ol' boy from Iowa.

Nice post mtnlvr, thanks for enlightening some of us. I know farming equipment is so expensive as I'm familiar with farm life. From what we know of Chris, financially and his background, I think anyone would be lucky to be his wife. I know it's not city life, but you can always go to the city, being financially comfortable and in love sounds like a good deal to me.

I'm looking forward to seeing and learning more about Iowa!

Chris was always "just the farmer dude". Some of us hung out on his thread during Andi's season simply because it was so... peaceful. (Also the way they edited him on the Bachelorette was ssssoooo bizarre.)

All he needs to do is simply stand there, talk and cry on cue. The ladies can handle the rest.

I seem to remember another season when someone was "less popular that the other guys" and went on to get his own very successful season, found his girl, got his wedding and became the most loved Bachelor of the lot.

Let's give the guy a chance and see how things go....

I think Sean was less popular than Arie and Jef, but as much as Chris? I know MTA with Sean, everyone looooved him. It was so hard not to! I guess like someone had mention, no one will probably match up to Sean and partially I think because I thought Sean had some really great girls, more-so than Juan Pablo's girls. So I hope Chris does the best he can and maybe his season won't be as boring. I'm not sold on his girls yet, either.

Certainly the girls and how Chris interacts with them will be a key to his likability. There was always a sense that Sean was trying to get to know his girls as much as he could in limited time- and several of the girls wanted to do the show because he was the bachelor- like Catherine- the interest was there before meeting him. IF there are girls who are on the show because they wanted to get to know Chris, it will bode well.... I guess the rub will come as we see ones who have "intereting" or "complicated" pasts- how that info comes to light and what he does with that. Sean has been quite outspoken about being isolated from information that the girls had (e. g. about Tierra)... things he wished he had known because he had to ask questions about them as the show aired. But in the end, Sean's is a happy ending. I hope the same for Chris.

When I compare their popularity in their respective seasons, it seems about the same although Sean became very popular once he was kicked off as evidenced by the reaction at the MTA that season. But his thread was much less popular than Arie and Jef's were. I spent most of my time there to avoid the board wars brewing as did most other people. But it was widely said on here that Sean couldn't carry his own season and it wouldn't be good. I feel like many have said the same about Chris. I hope to be pleasantly surprised by his season and a happy outcome.

But Sean wasn't hidden nearly as much as Chris. Also Sean's 1:1 date was much later in the season. I hope to be wrong, but I still question the lack of air time for a future lead. They knew the whole season that Chris was likely to be the next lead, so why not highlight him much more?

^My guess is they didn't highlight him much in the middle portion of the season because they wanted to play up the secret admirer thing. I think he got more airtime at the beginning than Sean (thanks to the early 1-on-1) whereas the only time Sean was really highligted in the first half the season was when Wendi the Ab Whisperer made him do shirtless push-ups. By HTD and FD time they both were obviously highlighted a great deal. Not to mention very similar turns on the hot seat at the MTA.

Unless they wanted the focus of this season to be "cringeworthy" all along.

Possibly, but there is a difference between being iowa rich and malibu beach house rich. His future wife ain't gonna be getting that great a deal as TPTB are trying to make it seem.

Sorry mtnlvr55, I in no way meant to make "iowa rich" seem inferior or make any comparisons! I actually live in SAfrica so was just using Malibu as an example of a place that I knew was one of the more wealthy, urban areas in the US. What I meant is that TPTB are promoting him as this "multi-million dollar rich" guy. To me when someone is described as that I assume they must live a lavish lifestyle - which as you said is not the case for Chris - so I just think its slightly OTP that they are promoting him as such.
