Most hairdressers are independent contractors who rent a chair in a salon as opposed to direct employees. The salon who have required her to pay rent for her "chair" or would have rented it to someone else. Technically Clare was probably "self-employed" and therefore a "business owner" as opposed to owning her own salon.
