Re: *No Spoilers* The Bachelor 18 Media Thread
Bachelor Juan Pablo doesn't care about bachelorettes' drama
"I don’t like tattle-talers," says Juan Pablo Galavis, whose season starts Jan. 6 on ABC and OMNI.
By:Debra YeoStaff Reporter, Published on Mon Dec 16 2013
It’s a given that a new season of The Bachelor comes with plenty of drama among the women vying for the sole man, but new Bachelor Juan Pablo Galavis isn’t interested in the bachelorettes’ spats.
“I don’t care about their drama, you know, I’m there to meet the women on a one-on-one basis. Whatever happens in the house I just don’t care,” Galavis, 32, said in a conference call with media on Monday.
He added, “I don’t like tattle-talers, I like people that worry about themselves, just themselves, like I do … At the end whatever they say (about other women) it doesn’t matter to me. I just care about what I say, what I feel and how I feel.”
Galavis wouldn’t give away details of the upcoming season, which starts Jan. 6 at 8 p.m. on ABC and OMNI, like whether he ended up in love.
“You have to watch, that’s part of it, I wish I can tell you. I’m very happy, I’m a happy guy, I’m always happy,” he said.
Asked about the fact that one of the 27 women vying for his heart was seven months pregnant when she came on the show, Galavis said, “I was shocked, obviously, but I’m a dad and I know how that feels. Single moms, single dads, they don’t have that other person to raise their child. It’s tough . . . if I’m able to give her that chance it’s great.”
Galavis is father to a 4-year-old daughter, Camila.
As the first Latino Bachelor — Galavis is from Venezuela — he said there’s going to be “a lot of Latino things in the show,” including food and dancing.
In fact, his list of what he’s been looking for in a partner includes “a woman that is fun, that is smart, that is honest, they like sports a little maybe, they love to dance. I love dancing. That’s one of my biggest turn-ons.”
The Bachelor season premiere will be preceded by the special The Bachelor: Countdown to Juan Pablo, airing Sunday, Jan. 5 at 8 p.m. on ABC and OMNI.

Re: *No Spoilers* The Bachelor 18 Media Thread
Speaking FOR Nikki, she didn't too badly. Her mistake was complaining too much before-hand.
He likes "classy and honest". Gee... who fits that description? I will say this much for Clare. She keeps the door closed on the cameras when she has meltdowns. Only Renee got to see her at her messiest. Every hair is in place when she does her PI sessions. He should pick Kelly though.
Here's something for Litta to search for in the screencaps... if not yet, maybe future episodes: "I like to give one kind of flower — ironically not red roses, which I have to give a lot in this adventure."
“I don’t like tattle-talers, I like people that worry about themselves, just themselves, like I do … At the end whatever they say (about other women) it doesn’t matter to me. I just care about what I say, what I feel and how I feel.” See!!! Everybody has a chance with Juan Pablooooo... catfight all you want! Just don't tel him about it.
When asked if he ended up in love, “You have to watch, that’s part of it, I wish I can tell you. I’m very happy, I’m a happy guy, I’m always happy”. Awwww[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] "She" must be "full of life" as he says in the episode #5 promo. Speaking of "full of life", why do they act like one contestant was genuinely pregnant?

Sean stood out as one who knew that if you are serious about finding a mate, and you have sisters and female friends who are close to you, you better pick a girl who can get along with her peers!

Taking into consideration that Clare is front runner #1 Vs Nikki as front runner #2 ....
Clare has been mentioned consistently in his blogs. He even mentioned the whole octopus incident which he could have given a skip on. Whereas despite giving Nikki the GDR in ep3, he didn't mention her at all.
Now he could be "hiding" Nikki in this blogs (IF she is F1) but I doubt it.
He named Clare as sexiest just like Des did last season about Chris.
JKL does not really count since Clare was not mentioned by JK. But his eyes did smile when they mentioned Nikki so not sure which way that one swings. Des smiled when Brooks was mentioned too.
He said that dancing is a huge factor for him - that automatically eliminates Nikki :)
Does anyone else have thoughts / clues to add to this ?
Sure, I just posted on the non-sleuthing media site the following about dissecting his People blogs:
While I assume that an ABC PR professional helps Juan write blogs and must go through approvals, I have found that EVERY season the lead looks for opportunities to mention his F1 (especially in ep 1 blog) and not just in date recaps. Emily and Sean did this with their F1's. Des wrote a lot about the spoiled Brooks and, of course, Chris while Drew barely got any mentions. I kept waiting for Zak to get the boot but when I kept seeing Des reference him in blogs, it made me realize that he was indeed going far (and he went to F4 plus strong Bachelor candidate).
So here's what JP is saying about his ladies:
TOP CONTENDERS
Sharleen – 4 blog mentions (including date recap) - would not be surprised if she is F1 or he is already broken up with F1 and wants her back
Clare – 3 blog mentions (including date recap) - his words reminded me of what Sean said about Ashley. He also revealed in two separate blogs things about Clare that made her sound high maintenance and NOT go with flow.
Andi – 3 blog mentions - worth noting esp since she has had no date yet a la Catherine.
Cassandra – 2 blog mentions (including date recap) - you can tell he really likes her ... as friend!
Renee – 2 blog mentions - his other sweet buddy
Chelsie – 1 blog mention (date recap) - surprise for me that he did not mention her in other blogs as I thought they had better connection. But could be similar to Des' approach with her default F2 ... Drew.
Nikki – 1 blog mention ... stay tuned to see if how much he gushes about their one on one date
Kat – 1 blog mention (date recap) ... same comment as Chelsie. I actually think that they seem like great match in terms of dancing, out going, low key ...

SHARLEEN
Blog ep 1: Sharleen came all the way from Germany to meet me! I was so impressed by her beauty, by her job as an opera singer and that she tiene mundo/has worldliness. I knew just by her dress that she was different in a good way and I had to get to know this woman better.
I decided to give Sharleen that first impression rose. I had no idea that Sharleen had some doubts about the rose and the whole experience, but I absolutely do not regret giving her that rose because I really want to spend more time with her – plus I can't wait to hear her sing.
Blog ep 2: “I didn't have a date with Sharleen this week, so I was happy to have some time to talk to her. She definitely didn't need to apologize for how she waited to accept my rose last week. I'm just getting to know her, and she's just getting to know me. I know she feels out of place, but I see something there and will keep trying to make her feel relaxed so hopefully she opens up to me later on.”
Blog ep 3: Poor Sharleen got beat up, but she kept getting up and kept playing.
And who knows, maybe I find my Seoul mate on the way. (MVM note: while he didn’t mention Sharleen, he said this during ep 4 about her post date).
Blog ep 4: On this trip I definitely wanted to have a one on one with Sharleen, because I knew she would appreciate Seoul's culture and that she is the one with mundo (worldliness). That's something I really like about Sharleen.
The first part of my date involved walking in the city and exploring the market. I was impressed with all the different food and things in that very hot location. We tried a bunch of things, and I had no idea what they were. The only one thing I kind of recognized was fried crab, and we had a piece of that. It wasn't as bad as it looked.
I was looking for a little Korean outfit for Camila, and once we found the right spot, we bought outfits for the three of us. Then we went to a teashop and I got the chance to really talk to her, but in the back of my head I was wondering, how am I going to get her to sing? Maybe dinner is the perfect time.
I took her to a very special temple and brought her down to a square (like in all the karate movies I have seen) and I begged her to sing a little. When she opened her mouth and sang a couple of notes, I was so impressed by her powerful voice. The night ended fantastically and I gave her a rose.

CLARE:
Blog ep 1: “Some people may think that Clare was crazy to come out with a pregnant belly, but I LOVED it. When I saw her step out, I was like, "OMG" but after a second and seeing that kind of weird shape on her belly, I was like, "Ohhh, good one ..." (MVM note ... Des said similar about Zak; Sean about Lindsay)
Blog ep 2: “I knew the winter wonderland was going to be a shock to Clare, but I love surprising people. When I'm in a relationship, I always find ways to surprise my girlfriend. Being El Bachelor, I get to surprise all these women, and this one with Clare I really believed was a good one. In the car ride over, she kept asking me a million times what we were doing, and she even got a little nauseous. I remember when I carried her on my back, and as soon as I stepped on the snow she had an idea of what it was, but it wasn't until I took the blindfold off that she was certain. Seeing her that happy and excited definitely made me smile.
We had a blast playing around in the snow. Ice skating with Clare was great, and we went sledding a couple of times. We made a bet on the race. Whoever lost had to give the winner a massage. I won the first race, but Clare wanted a rematch. We did a double or nothing, and I won again. So I decided to get one of the massages that night and save the other one for another time.”
It was nice to get into that hot tub when it was so cold around us. When Clare opened up about her dad, it really got to me. As a father myself, I want Camila to look to me one day like that. It seems like Clare's been struggling ever since her father's death. She even calls herself the Ice Queen. Maybe one day I will help melt that icy heart of hers. All I know for sure is that we were having a fantastic date together, and it got even better when Josh Krajcik started playing. He's an amazing singer, and to finish the night like that, dancing in the snow … perfect. I really loved my first one-on-one date.” (MVM note: interesting he pointed out she was nauseous! and His words about helping to melt heart reminded me of Sean's words on Ashley)
Blog ep 4: It was really hard to convince Clare to try it, but in the end, she put it in her mouth. It lasted for five seconds before she took it out and didn't eat it. (MVM note: once again ... high maintenance Clare, which is not the easy going nature he said that he wanted)
***
ANDI
Blog ep 2: “I'm also so proud of Andi for overcoming her fear and really killing that photo shoot. I knew how hard that was for her, because it was hard for me as well, but I'm glad she did it for charity. The picture looked amazing at the end, and hopefully a dog's life will be saved because of it.”
Blog ep 3: “Kissing Andi at the concession stand was very steamy – that place was so hot and things got even a little hotter.”
Blog ep 4: “I gave the rose to Andi because I wanted her to be here. She is confident when she is in control, but in this case she doesn't have control, so I thought a little bit of reassurance would be good for her”.
***
CASSANDRA
Blog ep 2: “The photo shoot was a lot of fun, especially with Renee and Cassandra. Cassandra's dog ended up eating the whole plate of spaghetti and meatballs. It was hilarious.”
“Cassandra telling me she was a mom was something I wasn't expecting, but I was glad she was able to tell me. I don't blame her for waiting a week. She needed to get comfortable and pick the right time. Her son Trey sounds great, and I'm happy Cassandra is here. I definitely want to get to know her better.”
Blog 3: It started with my one-on-one date with Cassandra. I wanted to make sure early on whether I felt she could be a potential partner, because obviously I don't want to waste her time away from her son.
The date started at the beach, jumping in a water car and enjoying a ride around town. She had no idea the car was a water car. We drove a bit, and then I faked that I was going to stop in front of the beach, but I pressed the gas until we got into the water. She was scared, but soon she figured it out. We cruised to a yacht and had a great time lying in the sun and talking.
After a great afternoon, I took Cassandra to my house and cooked my signature pasta for her. I wanted her to feel as comfortable as possible so she could talk to me without problems. We had a great date, especially when we were dancing, because she is a good dancer and I knew she felt in her comfort zone. Seeing pictures of her son really melted my heart, because I know how it feels to be away from your child but also wanting to look for someone to spend the rest of your life with.”
***
RENEE
Blog ep 2: “The photo shoot was a lot of fun, especially with Renee and Cassandra.”
“I really am thankful that Renee was there to take care of Victoria and make sure she was as safe as possible. Little things like that tell me a lot about someone like Renee and make me like her even more. She is a great mom.”
Blog ep 4: Renee's feet were the tastiest, because all the fish wanted them. LOL.
***
CHELSIE
Blog 3: My last date of the week was with Chelsie. She is so fun. We danced in the car, and I took her to a bridge. We stopped in the middle, and I made a video where I told her this was our bridge. She said, "We'd better not be jumping off it," and it was great seeing her reaction when she saw the platform and realized that we were, indeed, going to bungee jump off of it.
We put our gear on and walked up the stairs. When I looked down for the first time, I almost s–– my pants. Oh my God, I was scared, but I was not going to show Chelsie that because she would not have jumped with me. She was also super scared. We walked three times front to back, and I tried my best to keep her calm and make her trust me that everything would be okay. Obviously, trust is very important for a relationship, but if she didn't want to jump, I was going to understand because is a hard situation to be in. She trusted me, and we jumped. It was a very scary feeling.
That night, I wanted her to relax and have some dinner in a gorgeous setting, and after that I gave her the rose. What better way to end the date than with a Billy Currington concert for the two of us? I knew she loved him and thought she was perfect for this date. I wasn't wrong.
***
NIKKI
Blog ep 4: Nikki and Danielle were very nervous because of their dancing skills, but I was there to have a good time and see how the girls handled being in or out of their comfort zones.
I gave the rose to Nikki because I wanted to make her feel more comfortable when it came to opening up to me.
***
KAT
Blog ep 2: “I went big on my first date with Kat – and had an even bigger surprise waiting for her. We were going to jump on a private plane to Salt Lake City and run in an Electric Run 5K. Before we left for the airport, Kat and I had a small picnic and got to know each other better. I learned about her past and how she moved out to Arizona for her job. She's been really career-focused and is now ready to find someone. I really liked that about Kat. Plus, she's beautiful and she likes to dance, so she was perfect for this date.”
“I cannot describe the energy of that Electric Run. All the music, neon colors and people … it was crazy. Kat and I don't even really like running, but this was so much fun. All kinds of people were running the 5K – families with little kids, older people – it was really a great mix of people. It was so funny seeing all the fans of the show rooting for Kat to get the rose as we were running the race.
The race was amazing, but the end on the stage was even better. It was funny being on stage. I kind of felt like a rock star. The crowd was loving us, and the music was blasting. Seeing Kat go with the flow on this very different date was really important for me to see. She definitely deserved that neon rose.”

Jake hardly ever mentioned Vienna in his blog and we all know she was his F1.

True. Perhaps JP and the editors are going in the opposite direction from more recent leads .
The point is that normally leads mention stuff in their blogs that is noteworthy. He gave Nikki the GR in episode 3 but didn't mention her at all. So IF she is F1, there is every chance that they are deliberately NOT mentioning her. Either that or he may get in trouble with his F1 for even mentioning her post show.
Anyway MVMom has done an excellent breakdown of his blog mentions and the reasons why she has tracked this stuff in the past.

I did not follow Jake's blogs and while it's true that Vienna was his F1; Jake was a total pawn of show. Plus he did not care too much about keeping Vienna happy post show so probably didn't care what was written about her.
I tend to think of the lead's blogs as a combo of who the lead/ABC/Fleiss thinks should be getting attention. Maybe the mentions are a shout out of JP's "love" (and lack of mentions for other contenders are to appease an insecure F1) or maybe to promote next Bachelorette lead or maybe to promote the women who bring the best drama/ratings. I just saw a pattern with Emily, Sean, and Desiree in how they wrote about their top 4 in both the date recaps and the mentions when not on dates.
SHARLEEN THOUGHTS ...
I don't see her as the next candidate for Bachelorette ... she just doesn't seem "fun" enough and I can't imagine her warming up/being cordial to 25 guys. She also doesn't seem like a good F1/stepmother candidate ... unless there was more to the convo with JP during their date about whether she wants kids. And, the fact that Chris H is saying their relationship puzzles him makes me think that they want us to pay close attention. Maybe all of this focus on Sharlene in blogs has something to do with a departure that breaks JP's heart (a la Brooks). Or, maybe JP and his "true" F1 know exactly how the show works and that JP must gush over Sharlene in his blogs so we can all be so very sad for him when their relationship fails. Who knows? But she is one to watch!!
Stay tuned ...

we love to have new people...and your sleuthing is great to be looking at the twitter accounts.
Interesting...does CH have something for Clare?!?
Are there rules about social media when you sign up for this show?

Good stuff here. It is fun comparing this season with past ones, although it is startling how little attention Ashley's F1 JP got in her blogs. In Ben's season, he frequently spoke of his F3 Nicki in present and future tense and F1 Courtney in past tense... although part of that was because he and Courtney were, in fact, split for a while during the airing of the show and he just might have been considering other options. Who knows? In any case, these silly things do drive us nuts.

Kat – 1 blog mention (date recap) ... same comment as Chelsie. I actually think that they seem like great match in terms of dancing, out going, low key ...
OK... my approach will be a little different here.
I'll just highlight the stuff that puts each contestant "in the running" in blue and the "red flags" in red. Pronoun usage is very critical... too many "I", "my" and "she/her" when "we" and "us" would work just as well is not a good sign that Juan is still in a relationship with that contestant. However, we can't judge too-too much by pronoun usage... so even my "red" notes may not be THAT detrimental. Also Juan can't reveal too much.
Love your commentary (even if we may be reading a few things differently here... *chuckle chuckle*), but I will snip it just to get to the "bare bones" here.
I do think this line can be used with anybody: "And who knows, maybe I find my Seoul mate on the way."
SHARLEEN
Blog ep 1: Sharleen came all the way from Germany to meet me! I was so impressed by her beauty, by her job as an opera singer and that she tiene mundo/has worldliness. I knew just by her dress that she was different in a good way and I had to get to know this woman better.

(This is not really a "red flag", but he is instantly bringing up her career talent over the connection.)
Blog ep 4: On this trip I definitely wanted to have a one on one with Sharleen, because I knew she would appreciate Seoul's culture and that she is the one with mundo (worldliness). That's something I really like about Sharleen.

Hmmmm... something bothers me here about that last line, but I can't place what it is. Oh well... I do consider her a frontrunner simply on account of that very first line. Also a couple of "we" uses are good here, even if they relate mostly to a one-time shopping moment. Including Camilla in the scenario is an added plus.
CLARE:
Blog ep 1: “Some people may think that Clare was crazy to come out with a pregnant belly, but I LOVED it. When I saw her step out, I was like, "OMG" but after a second and seeing that kind of weird shape on her belly, I was like, "Ohhh, good one ..."

I really loved my first one-on-one date.”
Blog ep 4: It was really hard to convince Clare to try it, but in the end, she put it in her mouth. It lasted for five seconds before she took it out and didn't eat it.
First line I highlighted in blue because it definitely shows Juan will support Clare even if others do not.
"In the car ride over, she kept asking me a million times what we were doing, and she even got a little nauseous." I'll let this one pass because it relates to the "suspense" of the surprise and not her vomiting all over his lap.
Obviously Clare/Juan are not a perfect relationship as we see some struggle. Both clearly have a stubborn streak if Clare was hard to convince. Yet the octopus scene was all "in fun". The over-abundance of "we" here is a definite plus... and there is much future talk here as well. This includes... oddly... "She even calls herself the Ice Queen. Maybe one day I will help melt that icy heart of hers." The boy is on a mission!
Juan ought to know about "heat". Desiree accused him of almost burning down the igloo.
The reason episode #4 is a mix-mash of red and blue is that his primary purpose of giving her a rose was reassurance. Mind you, Ashley kinda-sorta did that for JP in Taiwan, but it was also because (with hometowns coming up) "I want to meet your family so baaad".

LOL.
Both ladies are treated very favorably here, if too much praising and no discussion of what he "feels" for them once The Kids are removed from the scenario.
Lots of "we" here, if focused more on the date experience than the connection. Highlighted that first line since it is present tense. Whether or not he and Chelsie ended up together, they are still friends.
"... thought she was perfect for this date". Hmmmm...
NIKKI
Blog ep 4: Nikki and Danielle were very nervous because of their dancing skills, but I was there to have a good time and see how the girls handled being in or out of their comfort zones.
I gave the rose to Nikki because I wanted to make her feel more comfortable when it came to opening up to me.
Both Nikki and Andi got the rose for "reassurance".
Enough "we" and "us" here to suggest the possibility that they are still together. "My first date with Kat" proves there are more to come.
Put that one line in red because he is basically ignoring Kat on stage.
Like Chelsie, she gets "perfect for this date". Hmmmm...
