You are correct with when most announcements are ... Bettes during Bachelor's AFTR due to the short time between end of show and start of filming, and Bachelors usually during DWTS. Personally, I think this time the Bachelor was announced early because this season has been such a dud. Ratings sucked, fans were complaining about all the fake drama, boring, mostly unattractive guys, and boring Des. After Sean's season, I think they had been expecting a lot more. The ending may have been shocking, but, even that was not very satisfying for most. Yes, I know some loved it and thought how romantic, but, even many of those didn't buy it. The fact that that last episode, with all the drama that it was supposed to have, had so much filler and distractions, screams that this was not a successful season. JP's announcement was just another distraction thrown in to take the pressure off from a couple that even producers weren't buying. The fact that it would just create more buzz for his season, was a bonus.murasaki1393 wrote:Thank you for your kind response . You have said it perfectly. I think somehow it has something to do with their high level conspiracy to hide the ending. The Chris cray fans who believe the spoilers- me not included - had their high hopes of him being next TB due to his out and about in Seattle, handing out roses with Elan. WTH was that for? :shocked!:. Some thought it was to satisfy us, the Chris fans after him being heartbroken as F2, thus the prompt announcemen of him as TB would do so. I personally suspected it was a disguise to hide the fact that he is the F1. and it turned out to be right. To me, handsdown, this season is the weirdest ever. I am afraid it will also set the bar for future seasons, spoiler-wise and storyline-wise. So i think we need to buckle-up to welcome more weird, more cray2 upcoming seasons..LOL..ironcat wrote:I tend to think there is a correlation between how early they announce the new Bachelor and how excited/confident the producers are that they have made a choice that will please the majority of fans. An announcement this early (and I think this was the earliest a Bachelor has ever been announced) says to me that TPTB think most fans are overwhelmingly in favor of JP's being the lead and that there really wasn't another contender for the role with a rabid enough fanbase to worry about disappointing. The early announcement also helps the casting process, as I'm sure they expect that more women will apply for the show knowing it's him.

I agree that rushing the announcement may have partly been to juice up the finale (was it publicized that the Bachelor would be announced in the promos prior to the show? I know CH mentioned the fact very early on in the episode, no doubt so that viewers would watch the whole 3 hours to find out), but in that same vein, I also don't think they would have made the announcement if they had any fear that it would land with a resounding THUD, the way Ben's, Brad's or Jake's reveal sort of did. If they didn't feel that JP was a true popular choice, and if they were uncertain whether a great number of fans would be disappointed that it wasn't somebody else, I don't think they would have spilled the beans and risked turning even more viewers off. I just remember how long they kept fans hanging and hoping that Reid and Chris L were the leads, even though they knew long before someone else was announced that both guys had turned the gig down.Sprite wrote:You are correct with when most announcements are ... Ironcat I totally agree that they wouldn't have made the announcement if they were unsure about JP's popularity. I think it is precisely because they were so sure that he would be a pretty popular choice, that they announced him that night....a popular, satisfying announcement in an otherwise, not so popular, unsatisfying show.

And they were right, didn't something like 3000 applications come in soon after the JP announcement?

It's different for the Bachelor than for the Bachelorette. They have to announce the Bachelorette early - at the ATFR - because the filming starts so quickly afterwards. For the guys though, they have been announcing in very late August (Ben) or in September (Sean). So announcing JuanPa at the ATFR is very early indeed and I too would like to know why they did it.murasaki1393 wrote:thanks for the scoop. i really want to know . i know that most of Bachette were announced at ATFR. but JP announcement confused me since as far as i can recall most of the Bachelor were announced at DWTS/sometime later after the previous Bachette season ended. Was it their first time to do so?.SueSt wrote:TPTB try to make the announcement of the new Bach/Bachette (and often have made it) during ATFR...to capture the audience and get them excited for what's to come....murasaki1393 wrote:I just need to throw this million dollar question
Why on earth Juan Pa`s announcement as TB was announced at Des`s ATFR?. TB will be filming no less than on October, right?, as the past seasons`s norm.
im so curio!!..:anyone?: . TIA !!
Also pretty sure the filming schedule is on target... end of September thru till Thanksgiving... with the initial show broadcasting the first show the first week in January...
Why do you ask? Or were you just being ironic??? :-)

The interesting thing is that none of the guys on Des' season seem to have anything near the Twitter following that some of Emily's guys had right after the season aired, but going back to any of those would not have been a good idea because of their post-show dating history. I think the producers were in an odd position and decided to do something different, and with that realized they were going to need to BUILD JP's fan base before his season starts.murasaki1393 wrote:Thank you for your kind response . ETA. i personally think Drew is a more attractive catch for TB and has larger fan base than JP. so it must has smth to do with the law-suit that they had to consider a non-native-American this time. JMHO
Just give me something that looks like a real love story to help me escape into my own version of fantasy for a while. And maybe against the odds one of those stories will actually survive real life. Nothing wrong with a little hope, right?

Re: The Bachelorette 9 - General Discussion - News/Updates
It may be as simple as they didn't want to wait until DWTS starts and there's no BP this summer so decided they may as well put it on the ATFR show. I don't really think the finale needed another draw because there was the whole "will Brooks come back" drama so doubt it was a ratings ploy.
My opinion on why Des accepted a proposal from Chris rather than dating is that it's what they do on this show. All of the relationships start on shaky ground and they're just getting to know each other. The engagement is just a part of doing the show now and mostly means we'll date and/or live together and possibly we'll get married someday.

agree with your bolded, albean, and your last point as well. There is no way in the world they will let a lead "escape" without an engagement, after Brad 1.0, when they surely received tons of incredibly "fantastic" responses from the viewers/fans.

If that's true, it supports my theory of why they announced Juan Pablo (“JP” makes me think of Ashley’s JP) so early. I wondered if they weren’t happy with the selection of women they had for the next show, so they threw out the bait to see what would bite. There may have been other reasons on top of that, but the first thing I thought was that they would be inundated with women who would love to try to win Juan Pablo’s heart.bleuberry wrote:And they were right, didn't something like 3000 applications come in soon after the JP announcement?

Great post!!!Mandy61 wrote:What we all saw on our TV was exactly what TPTB wanted us to see. There is no way of knowing what really happened over the entire 10 weeks, we weren't there. Whether Des really felt something for Chris, Brooks, Drew or Zak is speculation not fact. None of us know them personally and none of us know what Des truly feels for Chris. It has been written many times about this show, 90% fake and only 10% real. What anyone says or does on any reality show is what will bring the ratings and moola, not necessarily the truth.
Des and Chris are engaged after anywhere from 1 day to 2 weeks, which ever you want to believe. Stranger things have happened in real life and because you can't buy it doesn't mean it can't happen. Some members in here have even put a time limit on their relationship before they will believe it. Is that what you do in real life? If my niece, sis, aunt, friend and the guy she is engaged to last for 6 - 8 months only then will I believe their really in love???? I knew in 4 days that my hubby of 19 years was THE ONE; we were married 6 months after we met and he is still the love of my life.
I have learned a lot about people on this board and not all of it has been positive. All's I am hoping for is that Des and Chris stay as happy as they are now, forever.

So true, and the same goes for Deanna as well.Sprite wrote:I believe that was said only after she and Roberto broke up. I took at as sour grapes on her behalf.
