Re: The Edit - Bachelorette 9 - Discussion
Well this is a fun thread! I am longtime Bach viewer and watched first four episodes unspoiled. I picked Chris as her F1 but believed the spoiler of Brooks as soon as I heard. However, let's just say that Fleiss or TPTB somehow set out to fool the sleuthing/spoiler sites with the early news that Brooks is F1.Doubtful ... but just for fun (and for the sake of the edit) here's why I see Chris as being Des' true Prince Charming at the end.
Chris has had zero drama but every episode we see Chris doing something special for Des that proves him worthy of her love...
- writing poetry for her
- Being her rock when Bryden left and encouraging her to open up about it
- telling her to use caution or watch her step on the streets (we see this nearly every episode)
- being the "star" player of dodgeball and the surprise star of soccer behind Juan Pablo
- taking her hand while exiting the boat that brought all the guys to Madeira ... while all other guys were ahead of them, Chris was helping her down the plank
- putting the sunscreen on her back while on yacht
- suggesting the note in the bottle activity on their date (most likely producer encouraged but bear with me here ...)
- being steadfast in his feelings for her and never wavering unlike some in F2
- trying to keep the James' drama in check as he tried to quiet Michael but then finally firmly saying directly to James that he couldn't stay quiet anymore and stating his disgust for James' actions.
- acknowledging his awareness of Des' attraction to Brooks but not in a needy/pouty way but in a "Brooks is worthy competitor" way
- referring to Des as "his girl" in a few scenes making it clear he means business
We've seen Des write poetry for him, compliment him at being great at everything (and he was visibly embarrassed by the attention) and tell him that she wanted him to meet her family. We've seen her grab his neck/head with both hands and bring him in for kiss after she's liked something he's said to her. Des told her friends that she felt support from Chris. And, they already had that totally adorkable scene (I think it was ep 4) when they joked about not being in the friend zone with each other (and this totally reminded me of that scene in the movie Emma when Knightly and Emma joke about how they can dance because they are not brother and sister).
Does Des looks as gaga over Chris as she does over Brooks? Not really. But that's okay. Any fan of romantic comedies knows that the guy who peaks mid-movie is generally not the guy at the end. That ga-ga guy ALWAYS does something to let down our heroine when her "true" perfect guy ... who has often been their all along for her ... is there for our heroine at the end and she's so happy to realize it has been him all along.
Chris is that "all along" guy. He is NOT flashy. He does not have Drew's movie star looks (although I personally find Chris better looking) or Brooks' charm. Chris doesn't have the same sad story that Drew and Brooks have. Chris also doesn't cause the pain & tears that we see Des experiencing in upcoming episodes.
Any great fairytale has to show the princess in a vulnerable position or danger before she gets her happy ending. It makes a whole lot of sense that the guy standing by her side at the end is the same guy who has been standing by her side, being so steadfast in his feelings for her every step of the way and proving that he's worthy of her love: Chris.
So ... maybe the "weird" ending is that others in audience see what I am seeing. That by all accounts she should pick Chris in the end. He "deserves" to be F1 for all of the above reasons. But ... she picks Brooks because the heart wants what the heart wants.
And ... Chris becomes our new Bachelor with the theme, "Nice guys CAN finish 1st."

The thing I like about your observation is you make videos and have that keen eye to pick things out. Things that even I missed. ITA with your breakdown.

Mom, I love your post and the archetypal fairytale references... makes so much sense. :-)
While I personally think Chris is a bit sappy and the poetry writing/reading makes me cringe... it may be just fine for Des.... I mean, she did write him a poem too... so obviously, she's reciprocating... and come to think of it, is Chris the only guy Des prepared a 'gift' for in this way? I think he's a wonderful guy and if she chooses him, I think they might just make it work.
Still, I also like Drew. He may have a sad story, but I'm inspired big time by what he's been able to achieve and what he's made of his life. Such a special guy... and they seem to have a very very serious physical bond... one I have not (yet?) seen with Chris.

I think a gift she will give Brooks is the "rose" list of all their special moments that we will see tonight. Very touching preview and it seems she put a lot of thought into it.

Re: The Edit - Bachelorette 9 - Discussion
Thanks Sue ... what you (and many others ) see as sappy with Chris' poetry, his fans see as sensitive jock (and lots of producer encouragement!). Chris fans also think there has been more steamy scenes in previews and probably left on cutting room floor than showing onscreen. I agree with above poster who said that if Fleiss is looking for edgy or controversial, I highly doubt that they'd want Chris as next Bachelor as he sure seems to be neither of those. But, I can still hope! I think the girls in particular bring enough drama/tears/craziness that they do not need an edgy Bachelor too.
DREW ...
I also like Drew ... he's my hometown boy ... but I question whether he fell more into the BachBubble trap/producer pawn than fell in love with Des. He said that he has never been in love before and yet with Des, he has fallen in love a mere six episodes in. To be 27 years old and have never been in love seems like someone who guards his heart and doesn't fall easily in love so that's why I have a hard time grasping that he'd let it rip and go all-in when 24 other guys are involved. Unless ... he developed a crush for Des while watching Sean's season. When you couple the fact he's pursuing a career in acting/modeling (and moved to L.A. to do so) plus the meteoric jump in Twitter followers (???) overnight, I guess that just gives me pause.
CHRIS S ... getting CHRIS L edit
Nah, I beg to differ. Chris S is not mourning anything/anyone. Whereas every scene with Chris L they seemed to work in his mom, I'd say every scene with Chris S they are showing him doing something athletic, chivalrous or reading a poem! What they have in common is both Chris L and Chris S give off a very approachable good guy-genuine guy-guy's guy persona. You can just see them being involved in a rec sports team and then kicking back with some beers at the local bar with a bunch of friends.

At least it makes more sense the Brooks being F1. We have nothing to support Brooks as F1, yet we everything to support Chris as F21.nd4reality wrote:SueSt wrote:JBF wrote:sfrank wrote:JBF wrote:Howdy! I guess there are many ways to interpret those lines... and there's no telling what lop and chop is involved.
... and it is interesting that all of Chris' scenes have HER narrating instead of him.
We are all fussy about details, details, details...
Anybody want to search youtube for past Bachelor/ette hometown "previews" to compare how the past F1s, F2s, etc. are shown? Does the lead speak over one contestant and not the others? Is there a certain sequence? Are there key hugging shots with F1 parents each season? Questions questions questions for those who like to look for patterns.
I personally think they use a kitchen sink approach with these "previews" so I don't think you can find anything really....
Apparently "heartbroken" talk is no factor here. F1 JP and F2 Lindzi get this talk.
Sean says “Family is so big for me…” and discusses all of the ladies in general. He calls out Lindsay’s dad as important. AshLee and Catherine talk on screen, Lindsay and Desiree do not.
Desiree’s Chris and Drew get key kissing shots. She speaks about Chris during his and Drew talks during his. This fits what others are noticing... Drew is doing all of the talking in his "journey" instead of Desiree but Desiree is constantly talking about Chris (and Brooks on the main show if not this promo).
Now... in Sean's promo, Catherine gets TWO solo kissing shots with her talking... resembling Drew in one way. Then again...
AshLee’s lines are the most like Drew’s. She is really "into" Sean as much as Drew is "into" Desiree.
***************
Emily’s promo is a mess. Chris B. is the only one talking, which makes me think he’s the one she is crying about “hurting anybody”.
Chris B. = AshLee = Drew.
Like Desiree’s Chris/Drew and Sean’s Catherine, F1 Jef gets the solo kissing shot.
***************
Ben’s is like Sean’s: all about family being important and needing parental approval.
Lindzi, Nicki and Courtney talk. Kacie's parents talk FOR her.
No kissing apart from Nicki kissing her dad.
****************
Ben, JP and Constantine all talk either in voice-over or real time.
Now... in another promo for ABC, Chris is shown talking to a sibling. This means Chris, Drew AND Brooks resemble JP here talking to Ilene.
Constantine, like Brooks (before and after Nate), is the last one highlighted with the most doubt cast.
No kissing, but Ashley is discussing "us" with JP.
:-) WOW JBF - this is a dissertation! Very impressive and thanks for all the research. Still I'm confused, what does it all mean!! :-)
I'm not JBF but I think he is showing us how as per the usual patterns of edits - Brooks is not F1 but rather Chris is ????

Fat chance of that. He said he is 100% NOT going to be the Bachelor right to James' face in episode #6.

Wouldn't it be special if they end that way too. Brooks brings the rose list to the FRC or sends it to Des ala Cat but he's inserted the end that will mean more than meeting his family. It's him reiterating that he loves her. Sorry. I might be pms-ing
