Des and Chris are in a long-term soul-mate kind of a relationship. A characteristic of this kind of relationship is that it takes time to develop. It is a very deep and long lasting type of chemistry. This show pushes people into accelerating their relationships, for fear of losing out. Works totally against the natural process of a long-term soul-mate kind of relationship.
There are several other kinds of relationships that take off a lot faster, and I can see how folks would say that is chemistry. But it is not a lasting kind of chemistry. Maybe good for a fling, but not for starting a family, like the one Des and Chris are in.
In effect, what these reality dating shows do is deter the best kind of relationship, by forcing it to go faster than it naturally can. While at the same foster short-term accelerating relationships, which better fit the time frame and competitive nature of the show. Pretty indicative of the show's poor long term track record.
I love to know your thought and analysis, MatchMaker. Keep em coming..
i agree, i see Des-Chris relationship fall into what you have described, or as b described as romantic friendship. I maybe biased bc me and my DH has this kind of relationship. so i wish my golden boy might find one too on the show!!..lol....We proven to be last for a long haul (17yrs and counting) and he made be a better person. Sorry, i just dont see this between Des and Brooks. The mystery for me is whether Des looking for a H on the show, or only `partner in crime` and/or having fun.

To me des really doesn't seem all that into any of these guys. It appears she is just going through the motions.
Britt, i agree with you on the bolded. I guess her being introvert person may explain she just seems going through the motions?...she actually needs more time to `digest` each relationship before make next moves/decisions. An extrovert person derive energy from people, while introvert person derived it from alone time. IMO Des and Chris connected on a more deep level than Des and Brooks , including this one. Hey, do you remember they love just to sit in the coffee shop and write poems.?..yeah,,that

Thank you for this insightful analysis. If I can just add my 2 cents worth....yes, this show is like speed dating but 10 times faster and it may suit some people better than others; which leads me to Chris, who I think is not at all suited for the fast pace that this show requires and he's not about to change his style either. He's remained who he is, quiet, sincere, sensitive, funny but still dignified, very classy thus far. And I have always believed too, that the guy, more often than not, sets the tone for the physical part of the relationship. Much has been said about him and Des having only shared closed mouth kisses and I truly feel that's because Chris has kept it that way. I may have finally seen an open mouth kiss last night or not...the point is, it's not because Des doesn't want to give it to him but rather that it's now up to him to up the level of the intimacy of their kisses. JMO...feel free to discuss everyone.
Yes, besty,,,our golden boy is a more reserved guy, and need more time to adjust in this fast pace environment.and i really can see him being considerate of his family concerns when it comes to intimacy, just as 1F and Sean did. its not a bad thing, just not fit well in this silly show`s nature. For this particular ep i blame the producer for the Bryden`s Drama. somehow it effected this date, more or less. and Des should be thankful, as she said in her VO, she was so lucky to have Chris in this date than nobody else. The date may end up being awkward or even detrimental had there was w/ anybody else. She even gives her mad props and praises in her Ppl Blog. You`re so awesome, Ziggy!!.... . I soo look forward to see their Portugal Date...and i certainly dont expect another interruption!..

...and despite the permanent smile and constant laughter, she also appears, to me, to be sad.
so i guess Sean was right?..his comments about Des : she seems hiding something behind those lovely smiles. what would that be precisely ?

Baseball Mom wrote:MatchMaker wrote:I think the whole show is ridiculous/funny. If it wasn't, RS wouldn't have such a huge following. Not saying folks on the show don't experience real feelings, but they knowingly sign up for the abuse. It's not like they haven't seen the show before and what happens thereafter. Or are not aware of what goes on behind the scenes (from RS's blog, this forum, etc.). By definition, there are going to be at least 24 breakups. Not sure what those breakups really are though, after a few minutes, here and there, of one-on-one conversations. Or at most, less one-on-one hours, than there are in a single day or two. The only real hurt that I can go along with, is that from not "winning" a prize (the fantasy of a relationship). If one is typically a sore loser, than that loss will be emoted more. It all has to do with expectations. And the show sets really high expectations for all participants. The other kind of "winning" is the public exposure that all participants get, and the opportunity to travel around the world. So everyone gets something out of the show. Otherwise it wouldn't exist.
When I use the term "soul-mate", I'm referring to a specific kind of a relationship. One where both mates compliment each other. Just because someone gets married or is married, doesn't imply that they have that specific kind of "soul-mate" relationship. For example, one could marry someone, who at a very basic level perceives/judges and thinks/feels like they do. But by definition, would not compliment each other, being so much alike one another.
To set one's expectations so high, as to believe what they have at the end of the show, from just a small number of hours together on this show, is the basis of a deep emotional attachment is ridiculous. And that they would be so hurt by it, seems kind of incredible to me. Reality dating is not real dating. It's a fantasy. It's fake. It's imaginary. It's a complete joke. Not saying it can't be an introduction, which leads to something substantial thereafter. But the show consistently shows us otherwise.
Well said, Matchmaker :clapping!:you've just pointed out the silliness of the entire premise of this show! So now I am just going to sit back, relax and enjoy Chris and his "adorkableness" and not worry whether he connects with Des or not. He can go find his soulmate in the real world once the show is done.
Spot on, Matchmaker. and ITA with you, bbmom. I am so relieved that from now on we just can sit back, relax and enjoy Ziggy and his adorkableness!... I always have this premise in mind : Des is so lucky to have him on her season, and if indeed she let him go in the end, it will be her huge loss. So, the worst scenario for me at the finale is i might throwing everything to my PC-set and i may need to fix it later on.......:P

First, the lovey-dovey date of the episode—Desiree and Chris! How adorable are they?! Normally, when a guy doesn't get a 1-on-1 date until this late in the season, I usually don't think he stands a chance of getting the final rose... but there's just something about Chris and Des! When he read that poem, I was honestly in tears. Chris is so endearing. And so is Desiree. If she chooses him as her guy, I see it being a relationship that could last! Do you agree?

to the bolded, i completely agree with you, Ms. Ali Fedotowsky!!..

The palace, the dinner, the conversation, and the romance were beyond my wildest dreams. I truly felt like a princess. Chris made me feel special while dancing in his arms, as if we were the only two people in that ballroom. I almost forgot about the date crasher.
(Des People Blog)
too much adorableness !!...
