Episode 7 - 7/08 - Bachelorette 9 - Discussion - Spoilers

What jumped out for me was how, after her exit chat wit Michael, Des went straight to Brooks for a comforting hug.  Didn't last inappropriately long, and then she went to Chris.

I totally agree- I did not see a connection with Des at all either. But I saw something extremely likeable about Mike G from Day 1- maybe it is the Italian thing, the , principled/tough on the outside/sweet on the inside NY demeanor- all that was confirmed with his call to his momma.
Seriously a guy that is that close to his mom is a wonderful thing. I know women loathe "momma's boys," but this is dead wrong. How a man treats his mom is exactly how he is going to treat his wife. If a man treats his momma well, savor it- share the spotlight with her. If he ignores her or treats her like dirt or doesn't get along with her RUN LIKE HELL!!!! Too bad I had to learn this lesson the hard way via not one but two ex husbands- lol! Free advice for the day- I should have ran.like.hell!

Interesting reading last night and today and glad that we are all still getting along so nicely :)

I watched the bulk of the show as it aired last night but had to rewatch the first section with girlfriends visiting and Brooks' date this morning as I tuned in late last night. Given all the comments on the board, I expected to see Brooks very obviously 'into' Des during their date. And, sorry, but I just didn't see it. She's got the googly eyes for him but I don't think his attraction to and interest in her is blatantly obvious. Could be the edit, I know. But I just don't see what some of you are seeing about their connection. Looks quite one-sided to me.

I saw the connection with Drew and Chris. Hate that both will be broken hearted but either would be fun as the Bach.

And my daughter and I almost fell on the floor when the CH interview came on. WOW! WOW! WOW! Who'd a thunk they'd ever include that type of info????

And what is Brooks' religion?

Now back to Des...
I rewatched the CH interview and her date with Brooks and well...now I am starting to cringe...
At first I thought maybe this drama with Brooks "not being there yet" was manufactured for tv.
Now I am not so sure.
When I rewatched I noticed that Des said something about being in Brooks' shows last season and feeling insecure about the process blah, blah. Oh Marrone! Here we go! This screams to me of a woman gaga for a guy that is just lukewarm over her and she is trying to justify it.
Gah! If that is the case, this is going to be PAINFUL to watch- especially when there are 3 other guys who seem to already "be there," yet is is going to pine away for the one who isn't.

I agree! I did NOT see Brooks all that into Des on their date either. Quite frankly, I saw that he was a little aloof, cold even.

I wonder if many past leads have had conversations like that with CH but we've just never been shown it before?  they didn't want to give away the ending so soon so we get the "I'm falling for them all" edit, but this season something seems to throw their relationship for a loop, so we're "allowed" to see her say that she's fallen in love with Brooks because there isn't gong to be a straight path to the FRC??  

It's very possible that others have said that before. I know Meredith was all about Ian from early on in her season. I do think we were only shown what Des said because Brooks probably leaves & returns. I don't need the guys to profess love at this point (or really ever for some of them) but would like to feel that Brooks has fallen for Des.  

Yes  - there is a reason that they are showing us so much of this stuff at this point. That itself it a first in the editing. They are setting Des up for some huge fall in the very near future.

I'm not sure whether that is going to come from Brooks alone with the gentle guidance from his mother or a perhaps a  bit of Nate or really a combination.
But something huge is coming up which IMO will be the change that Des was alluding to in her interviews.
Somehow I don't think its a temporary bump either. Otherwise they would not have this sort of setup.

I am getting a feeling of Ashley with Bentley all over again. They edited Ash to show that she was crazy head over heels for Bentley within 2 episodes and then when he left they made it out to seem that her season was essentially done. That was what they edited. The truth was in part correct and mostly completely wrong.
They seem to be doing exactly the same thing with Des. I really feel for her right now. You could see the change in her face when CH brought up the relucatance from Brooks. It sorta set her mind moving and then she ended it with a resolute  - this is not the end for me (or something).

I don't think that you can make a total parallel with Ashley/Bentley because Bentley left so early in the season, after just 3 episodes, which was only about a week into real filming time, and without even having a 1 on 1 date.  Brooks will be leaving Des broken-hearted after 8 or 9 episodes in contrast, and with only 1-2 episodes for Des to recover, assuming that he's gone for good (which I DON'T; I'm quite certain he'll come back at some point on the finale and that the spoiler is correct).

 

The situation that both girls found themselves in is the same i.e going googly eyed for a guy with lesser interest in them they they have. Yes the number of episodes is different and I'm not even refering to whether they 'get over' them or not.
It is the 'I'm so crazy about him' 'this is it' edit that both B'ette have got in their respective seasons.
Ashely barely had 3 episodes with Bentley yet she was so "broken up" about him - IMO it was ridiculous for such a short aquaintance. So counting the number of episodes that they have 'known' that they are falling in love does not count in these instances. That is the comparision I was trying to make.

Agree that there is some major contestant manipulation going on to get the ILY's so early. It is to play on the fact that the one Des loves is the only one NOT saying it yet.

I feel bad for all F4 guys going through this. It must have been hard to watch last night. I'm sure they never expected TPTB to show Des telling Chris H. she was at the finish line with Brooks this early in the process.

I LOVED Drew's conversation with Des about his sister. It totally melted my heart. I can't wait to see them pick her up for the HTD next week!

The way Des quickly added that her mind/heart is still open to Chris was a clear statement of a default F1. I said that in Twitterworld last night and someone called me rude. That was not my intention, but I forget that I can't speak as freely there as I can here. I was just calling it from what Des was saying...of course she has to say she is still open. We are only in episode 7!

I still love me some Zak. He makes me laugh and at the same time, there is a sincere sweetness about him. I keep thinking about what an entertaining season it would be with him as the Bach. I also love Chris and Drew, but they are both way too serious for me. BUT, if either of them were chosen as the next lead, I'd totally be on board with that. TPTB can't really go wrong here with any one of these guys.

He was "pensive". Much different than cold.

Brooks is Mormon.

There is the reason TPTB left in Des' VO "When Brooks falls in love, he really falls in love."  Some might say he is being "cold" or "lukewarm". I say he's more genuine with his feelings and level-headed than past F1s. He's not getting caught up in the bubble. He seems pretty Zen to me in that he is just taking it one day at a time and being in the present. Maybe it takes more F1s like him to make this franchise's couples to work out IRL.

Brooks stepped out of the way and let others have a chance. A very endearing Brooks trait.
