Episode 7 - 7/08 - Bachelorette 9 - Discussion - Spoilers

I think anyone who says "I love you" before the HTDs isn't thinking right. It's bad enough to say it before the LCD (IMO) but after 1 or 2 dates? That's crazy talk. Brooks pointed out he has had very little alone time with her (and it wasn't actually alone time, there's a crew right behind the camera).

I think what happened is the producers knew Brooks was her favorite, so they talked to the other four men and convinced them they needed to declare their love or risk going home. (Producers are experts at getting people to say stuff they wouldn't normally say. Either the contestant plays along hoping to be the next lead or they're deluded into thinking it's the truth. We know the producers sometimes LIE, such as tricking people into thinking the lead is really into them and they're the front runner.)

Then I think they did the opposite to Brooks, asked a lot of questions that played into any rational person's fears about how the show works, how being in the bubble can mess with you, it's smart to be cautious, you don't know if she's saying the same things to someone else, etc.

Now it looks like Brooks is dragging his feet when we don't normally see the men declaring their love before the HTDs. The other men are probably being ribbed by their friends and family today for dropping the L word so early, and they deserve it. IMO of course. :)

I don't know if Brooks leaves, the previews can be misleading. Maybe he did leave but the previews haven't convinced me yet, they're heavily edited with tricksy VOs.

I actually enjoy it more watching the lead being so smitten with a contestant. For example, Sean with Catherine and his desire to not be in the friend zone or Brad's unapologetic falling for Emily. Part of the appeal of Desiree and Brooks relationship is how smitten she seems to be. There were so many moments during the fireworks portion of their date where Desiree is leaning into him like, "please kiss me" and "hold me tight and never let go".

Loved what you said Saffron. Some grumble that things get too predictable and when a contestant turns the table and makes the lead work for their love they grumble again. Good for Brooks for turning the tables on Des. Keep her on her toes. It doesn't happen often but when it does it's pretty interesting to see.

I said the same thing earlier. Suspicious no. Confess your love before HTD. Like it will be their rite of passage into the HTD. Brooks handled it realistically

i want to see what RS has to say and see if it will end up being the reason why brooks leaves (i am assuming he does). it seems really silly to me if brooks leaves just because he's not as far along as the others. i thought that whole explanation for why bryden left seemed really odd too. who knows what the real story was with him.

RS doesn't know any details about the preview. He's said so himself. So, you will be wasting your time going there for answers.

I'm just not feeling good about Des being so into Brooks because I'm not seeing it with him, edit or not. Maybe this show is just too fast for him or his family reminded him about reality outside the bachelor bubble but I'm very nervous for Des. I don't like that she's all in at this point. She's given up the control the lead usually has and I have to wonder if she's thinking about practical matters such as his religion.

I'm also feeling bad for the other guys because they don't have a chance unless she gets cold feet about Brooks on his HTD. Luckily the recovery time seems fast after the show for most. :Nod:

I wonder if many past leads have had conversations like that with CH but we've just never been shown it before? they didn't want to give away the ending so soon so we get the "I'm falling for them all" edit, but this season something seems to throw their relationship for a loop, so we're "allowed" to see her say that she's fallen in love with Brooks because there isn't gong to be a straight path to the FRC??

Yeah! It's very possible they didn't do anything special to make Brooks more cautious, he was talking like a normal person who has spent a small amount of time with someone they really like. (He also said a lot of positive things, like he's excited about where things are headed and the potential.) I have no doubt producers and assistants encouraged the other men to say all that stuff about falling in love, either through tricks or flat out asking them to help with the story.

Have we ever before seen a man on The Bachelorette say I love you before the HTDs? Or talk so much about already falling in love? I can't think of anyone but it's possible, if it's happened before then it's definitely not the norm. Usually we see some guys say "I'm falling in love" with you on the FD, most wait til the LCD or FRC to actually say "I love you," if they say it at all.

Those guys on last night's show were either in on it *or* the producers pulled a fast one to make them lose reason and common sense. They did that to Reid but they waited til after the FDs so it was a little more believable (but still silly).

I really couldn't believe what I was hearing last night, it was more than a little ridiculous. I think Des is beautiful (prettiest Bette in my eyes) and sweet, so I'm not knocking her, I just have a problem with whatever tptb did or said to those guys to make them so goofy.

I love this post.  Thank you.  This is a nightmare of a season.  Whether they kiss and make up I don't care.  The damage has already been done as far as I am concerned with his reluctance to say he loves her.

I think that's unfair. Pre-HTD is too early to say ILU in my opinion. JP only told Ashley after he met her family, during LCD.
Just because she got there first does not mean his love wont be just as real and strong.

It's very possible that others have said that before. I know Meredith was all about Ian from early on in her season. I do think we were only shown what Des said because Brooks probably leaves & returns. I don't need the guys to profess love at this point (or really ever for some of them) but would like to feel that Brooks has fallen for Des.

Very possible. They can't just end the series after 7 episodes....

If the producers talked like Chris H., I could see them for sure playing the mind games. They always do.
