It's almost like the producers haven't realized that even the average viewer can see through a lot of the "packaged BS" now and aren't falling for it. It's time for new tactics and strategies.
But the viewers are falling for it... look at the numbers. Maybe not the 1% that is online and more aware of the TPTB ways, but that's not the target for the millions they want to tune in each week.
The viewership is steady and doing ok for older programming but my point more was that the people watching are: 1) either mocking it or 2)had higher hopes about the season and are just kind of wondering what's going on with Sean.
I must admit, even after knowing the typical production antics, I expected more out of Sean's season - deeper discussions on an array of topics, maybe not as intense and laser focused as AshLee is, for example, but something similar because of how he was in Emily's season and during the off season. I am not saying he should not have fun but the depth that I expected to see just isn't there so far. As stated up thread, no sense of intimacy is happening on these dates.
Maybe in-depth, earnest discussions happened but they're opting not to show them - with their slice and dice editing style. If they were doing a better job of showing what happened, then CH or Sean wouldn't have to address what really happened in blogs and interviews for so many situations.

I had hopes they would show deeper discussions too, but then I remembered what show this is and that they don't roll that way even with Sean as the lead. TPTB aren't exactly in tune with what the viewers want to see, hence the tierrable show every week so far. I'm looking forward to the HTD and beyond because that's when things get more serious and the riffraff is gone.

I think Sean had a typical guy moment and panicked when he realized that Sarah saw their relationship going to the hometown date or even further. He probably knew that there were other girls "ahead" of her in his heart. I have often seen men in the Christian culture confront other men if they feel the guy is leading on a woman that he has no intention of getting serious with. It's possible that Sean felt major guilt for misleading Sarah and felt it necessary to break it off immediately.
Unfortunately, I don't think for one moment that Sean put himself in Sarah's position and thought how she could or would take this early rejection in a more hurtful way, being set apart from the other women. Like I said, I think he just panicked and needed to get out as quick as possible. I'm not excusing Sean, but I also don't think he was intentionally being cruel. IMO, he was missing his "sensitivity chip" at that moment in time.
Excellent observation and very well stated. I totally agree!

ITA, the dates seemed to planned as if they were afraid we'd be hearing alot of crickets this season or something. Did they think we would be bored? They even made poor Catherine wait out in a blizzard until Sean came and picked her up. It's like Bachelor: Hunger games edition - last lady standing wins. With that said, from the looks of it the FD's seem more magical and less death defying (how romantic). My hot tub count is only at 1 - what's going on here! LOL

Couldn't agree more. I do think they feared Sean would have enough to say so they planned these over the top adventure dates. Then add that they hit the jackpot with Tierra and there is no way that we are going to see the good dates for anymore time than absolutely necessary. It's a shame...but drama beats love in the ratings department.

HowSoonIsNow wrote:Sarah should have had the same benefit as Selma & Daniela of sticking around an extra 1-2 days at that Lake Louise resort on the company dime and hanging with the girls. They all know they might be cut at the RC, but being cut 2 days before entirely randomly is blindsiding.
OTOH if Sarah asked to go early, and TPTB granted her wish but wanted Sean to off her, then fair enough. As we can see from her PIs/ITMs, she is upset about her plight (guys think she's great but it never works out), not about losing Sean. If she walked, it's because she saw the writing on the wall, as I'm sure she would since she's used to this scenario happening in her life. So her emotional reaction would be the same, either way.
In a perfect world, Sean would tell Sarah early but then give her the choice to stay till the RC or go home now, but we'll never see that ever from this franchise.
Honestly, I think if Sean wanted to spare her the RC, he could have waited till the morning of the RC, and still had the explanatory conversation. Why cut her an entire 2 days prior?
Finally, isn't it part of the formula in these recent seasons that someone is cut (or leaves) midseason out of nowhere (i.e. not at a rose ceremony and not right after a date)? Ben's Casey S. Ali's Rated-R. Emily's Kalon. Ashley's Mickey. The reason for the cut or walk differs each time, but this mid-season plot-point is to be expected.
I really don't think she wanted out. I also think that if he would have sent her home during the conversation, when she showed him the pic of her family... it would have been easier to take, for both Sarah and the audience. Doing it a few hours later, after she'd left and was having a good time with the girls, was extremely insensitive and he was a total jerk. Dress it up any way you want, make whatever excuse you want....bottom line is he hurt her deeply by doing it that way. She could have walked away with some dignity if it was at an RC.... but the way he did it humiliated her.

I read some of the threads before I watched as I DVRed it and I'll admit I was expecting much much worse. ITA, when Sarah came out with those family pics and hinted that her heart was already looking forward to a HTD, Sean took a step back and knew he couldn't allow her to dream of that day....not another moment. Reality sunk in pretty quick and I think he felt like he had to do something. I think it scared him, too thinking of how hurt she would be when it didn't happen. As far as the dates went, I thought Dez's date was as strong as Cat's. What happened with Dez? He really likes or liked that girl. I do, too. Heck, I really like Catherine, Dez and Leslie.Litta123 wrote:Throwing in my $.02...

Sean said in ones of his recent interviews that he planned all the dates they go on this season. Not sure if he also picks out who goes on what dates. I would love to know the answer to that.

love_me, where did you hide that 'suggestions for the producers' thread? i think we really need to give them some pointers as they seem clueless as to what their audience wants.
