The storyline on the show did have Arie as being the heartbroken F2 who could have another chance at finding true love by becoming the bachelor. The only thing that changed this is viewer reaction. Sean was the heartbroken F3 and people were upset that he was let go. At the MTA the crowd loved him, and if twitter is any indication of popularity than Sean is more popular than Arie. As has already been said Sean is the All-American former football player that the show likes to cast and that appeals to a wide range of viewers.

I agree totally! While I personally would pick Arie over Sean hands down, Sean has a very wide fan base and a seemingly squeaky clean past. He's the Republican candidate for bachelor [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] and appeals to all of those "return to family values" viewers.

I also agree its all about the bachelorettes they recruit. I don't mind crazy girls but I don't like manipulative and mean ones. Yes, yes Courtney & Ben seemingly fell in love for real but boy the fact that the producers made her the star of the show really ruined Ben's season for me. It was just too much Courtney and after those two skinny dipped together, may as well have ended the season right then & there.

And, let's not forget Roberto. I'd be happy with him too.

If they wanted Sean at the MTA and nothing changed, he'd have been signed then or at least earlier.

I think Sean was the only guy in the running who was agreeing to the role without restrictions or resistance. That doesn't make him necessarily MF's #1 choice. DW, they really seemed to want Ames at Ashley's MTA until Ben was f2 and heartbroken.
