I don't see Sean as a default at all. It seems that TPTB have wanted Sean since the MTA when all the women were screaming for him.

I'm surprised that people are surprised that Arie is not the next bachelor. Sean was very popular last season, and I think he was way more popular with casual viewers than Arie. I always saw tweets from people hoping Sean was the next bachelor. Arie was popular on this board, but outside of this board Sean seemed to be the favorite.

I think the order was Roberto, Sean, and then Arie. So if it's Sean they probably went with their number two guy. Arie would have been the third choice.

Does anyone know what Sean's homeless man comment was referencing?

As an Arie fan (he's my hometown boy!) and PR professional, it was a clever PR ploy to mention the Bachelor/Bachelorette reference in the press release announcing Arie's sponsors and return to racing for the added PR picks ups it will get him. The release never blatantly says that he was offered the role, just implies it. And, when another Bachelor is announced, Arie's camp struck first and got the message out there that Arie turned ABC down for his racing career whether true or not.

I say good for Arie. Isn't this the entire reason why he went on the show? To expand his fan base and his career options? Surely no one thinks Arie can't find a girlfriend the good old fashioned way and needs the Bachelor to do it?

My friends want Sean...they didnt realize that Roberto would be considered. I have mixed feelings..I'm always worried about the backlash. You just never know with TPTB.

The reason I don't think Arie was the 3rd choice was because they knew they could market him so much better, the race car driver vs the insurance agent, plus he came alive on tv while Sean came across as a bit of a stiff. Arie could show his feelings while Sean hid them for the most part. They also had the drama of Arie being heartbroken and the f2. Roberto was probably the 1st choice because of popularity but more importantly the lawsuit.

DW, they really seemed to want Ames at Ashley's MTA until Ben was f2 and heartbroken.

I may have not been the most romantic chick when I was dating, but I find that exchange to be extremely flirty

Yup! I was at the MTA and I met and spoke with several of TPTB (Fleiss, Millsy, Elan, Peter, Ken). They were absolutely delighted with the positive reaction that Sean received there.

I dont think any of them cant find a girlfriend the old fashioned way. Did Firestone "need" the show to find someone to date? They all have a variety of reasons for doing the show: adventure, travel, romance, career boost.

Sean has the second highest number of followers on Twitter after Jef out of all of the Bachelorette 8 contestants. 116,706 followers is not too shabby.

The whole exchange between Sean and Emily read as sarcastic and flirty to me. I assume the homeless man comment was some kind of inside joke. I don't for a minute think any of the rest of Bach nation that was with them all weekend would let those tweets go if Sean was actually being rude and insulting. I think someone would have called him on it. I know not everyone will see it that way, especially if they don't like Sean. But I choose to believe it was a fun, flirty exchange that was not meant to be interpreted the way it has been.

I agree totally! While I personally would pick Arie over Sean hands down, Sean has a very wide fan base and a seemingly squeaky clean past. He's the Republican candidate for bachelor :Smiley: and appeals to all of those "return to family values" viewers.

I also agree its all about the bachelorettes they recruit. I don't mind crazy girls but I don't like manipulative and mean ones. Yes, yes Courtney & Ben seemingly fell in love for real but boy the fact that the producers made her the star of the show really ruined Ben's season for me. It was just too much Courtney and after those two skinny dipped together, may as well have ended the season right then & there.

And, let's not forget Roberto. I'd be happy with him too.
