The Bachelor 17 - Speculation/Spoilers - Discussion

Do the leads get to actually pick any of the contestants? I know it was a well established rumor and possible fact that Emily reviewed and approved financial information but I don't think there was any mention that she got to specifically pick any one. Way back in the day, I remember Jen participating in casting but I don't think she knew who actually made the cut either. She did have a pretty great group of guys if I remember correctly.

Actually, whomever cast Emily's season did a great job for her which says they are good at picking guys. Just don't know about their ability when selecting women. I am hoping now that they can fulfill their need for sleeze with the Bachelor Pad that they would forego the #bachshitcray (thanks Arie!) on The Bachelor. Wishful thinking, I know.

Just one think to keep in mind(and yes, I meant think), this show only takes so many "normal" people(to quote a past contestant let go minutes before the limos took off for the meat and greet). So the machine is not looking to make it a normal love quest.

looked a little scary to me. Very out there with her sexiness in a very aggressive way.

Sadly, methinks "K-Twice" will make the cut before normal seeming golfer Christina. It is Fleissland after all.

Doesn't the Bachelor get to choose a few of the candidates? Maybe we should send Arie some info once he's confirmed.

I'm not sure if the actually get to choose any of the candidates - I do remember during (ugh) Jesse Palmer's season that he and some of his friends were looking through the girls pictures so they probably get a chance to peruse them to see if anybody catches their interest. Don't think they'd let the guy actually choose although they will ask him what traits he likes. If tptb think a girl is pretty/sexy and can cause drama - they'll want her on the show.

Actually I am hoping they will realize that all the bs they pulled with Ben last season did not go over well and in fact hurt their ratings. If so, maybe they will go back to making these girls more likeable. Who am I kidding?

I think Jessie Palmer got a "playbook" that showed the bios of the contestants that had already been selected. His friends got to see it and give input into who they thought he should pick. Did Jessie even get to look at the book or just the friends?

Jen also was able to review some of her guys - whether or not they have final say on who gets a spot would be guessing.

I seem to remember Jessie looking at it with his friends. Might be to help them decide who they initially want to talk with during the M&G and to help them with remembering the names - didn't help Jessie though - I still remember him calling the wrong name during a rose ceremony.

I remember the friends in the intro, but not them looking at the girls photos. Jesse wanted someone to schtoop, not marry.

TA he was most def. not there to find love - on the 1st episode I seem to remember Jesse and his friends in his condo looking through a book with pictures and commenting on the different girls - we weren't shown the pictures they looked at just saw them turning the pages and making some comments.

After hearing this general sentiment on these boards over the past month or so, I hope I can dispell this rumor. Sean's sister has not been "campaigning" for him to get the gig. Nor has she told her friends to vote numerous times on online polls to increase his chances (I read that somewhere in a thread a while back). Yes, like NCGal said (below), Shay definitely tweeted her support, but was never "actively" doing anything to attempt to persuade TPTB in that direction. And neither has Sean, for that matter.

Yep!! Did NOT like that group of girls at all, there were maybe 4 or 5 really nice girls, the rest where all *Not a nice word to call a lady* to me!!

And they also need to stop with the spray tan, all I remember from Ben's season is a bunch of orange girls!! Looking at the possible Bachelors they have this season, I REALLY hope they find at least 10 nice girls for the Bachelor, they can choose whatever they want to fill the remaining 15 spots, I just hope the guys see through the BS!!

I think Jen Scheft may have gotten some type of choosing considerations, but can no longer remember the exact extent. Jesse Palmer did get the scenario you described above.
As far as any other cast choosing candidates, I have never heard that. Cast may have been given a head's up prior to the season starting that so and so was going to be one of the 25, that I've heard. (Ashley being told about Bentley is one example).
