I'm not going to nominate BadNewsBentley for a "Good Guy" award any time soon, either, but there's always another side to the story. On one corner, we have people who say they are Bentley's friends and that he isn't BadNewsB at all. On the other corner of this fight, we have Fleiss, who we we know misleads, edits, over-edits, cajoles, pushes, lies, and flat out reaarranges things to suit his agenda.... Just thinking maybe Bentley's friends deserve at least an even playing field on what to believe (which let's face it, with Fleiss, is set pretty low). LOL
All I know is there's so much that just does not add up for me with this. I'm so ready to forget about BadNewsBoy and focus on the fabulous guys who stayed.

I noticed that Bentley never said one mean word to Ashley directly, just in PIs. If this doesn't scream producer set up, nothing does. He was a hired gun to manufacture drama and the pay was probably good. He also gets a free trip to an exotic location when he returns.

That's what I took from it. I guess it was a reference point for when he returns.

Welcome, Gypsy! Bentley made the remark that he thought the same way as one of the roasted remarks, but he wouldn't say it to her face, therefore, I really can't cut him any slack.
In fact, I believe saying cruel things behind someone's back but in front of 8 million people - regardless of whether a producer prompted you to say it - is worse than saying the cruel things to the person's face. We do know that he did say most of those things because we watch him say many of them.
Now it is true that we know the producers get contestants to speak their thoughts by standing out of sight of the camera and saying something like, " What do you think about...?" or "Talk about how you feel about...."
Therefore, Bentley was speaking his mind in those monologs, and yes he was most likely producer prompted, but surely he should have had enough responsibility to consider what came out of his mouth in front of a camera?

The contestants know very well the producers can and will take what they say out of context to create their story. Knowing this, the words the contestants give the producers to work with are their responsibility. Making references to swimming in pee, the guys being freaking idiots, messing with Ashley's head etc...were not forced with the threat of physical harm out of Bentley. Not cutting him slack, sorry.

I still am convinced that Bentley probably did this on a dare. He says he did something that has never been done before and I believe that is that he scammed the casting crew with the goal of being outrageous and rude and seeing if he could still "get" the girl. Perhaps Michelle Money's PI's were the impetus for the plan. He didnt plan to stay long, just long enough to make the girl fall for him. Not only did Ashley fall for the scam, so did the guys.
IMO when he didnt get the rose from the goup date, he may have been concerned his control was slipping. His exit was so smoothly executed, that I think it is possible the producers encouraged him out the door, but made sure he hanged himself.

I think he started to sense that his control was slipping when Ashley told him she had been forewarned about him. That, immediately followed with not receiving the rose, made him want to run away like a little girl.

I agree with your thinking.. after rewatching the ep 3 on the group date, Ashley said it was a good time to lay it all out there about what she was told pre show. Bentley's VO after he and Ashley talk is "after her telling me what she said, and then giving another guy a rose...it's time, I'm checking out" He left because he wasn't always top billing.

I think Bentley believed he "put one over" on even the producers, but what Bentley didn't realize is that they had his number. When he took all those personality and psychological tests that had something like 800 questions and lasted hours - which we have heard about from past reliable contestants - he gave them a tremendous insight into the way that he thinks.
He thinks he played them, but they played him as well. Bentley hung himself with that character assassination. People who know him will try to deny he said all those things, and they will try to find ways around it, but they will always question what they know they saw with their own eyes.

Rewatching the episode even with all the splicing Bently had enough rope of his own to hang himself.
