veg_out wrote:NCGalBecca wrote:Lol..no worries about Jason's high water mark being touched. While I haven't looked at their competition for the evening except BB which is only the first hour, I think they're going to have to stretch to top Ashley's mark - even with the live ATFR. Five days away and it seems like the buzz about the show is flat at best.
I think that many, many, many people are fatigued by an outdated show that repeatedly yields unsuccessful relationships after it shoves a highly scripted, staged, and fabricated non-reality down our willing throats. Ben's season turned so many people off, and I'm not sure that they can recover against their competition. I think Fleiss needs to recognize. To date, after 24 seasons, the franchise has only yielded two marriages, and, what?, four relationships that lasted more than a year!
I'm happy for Ash if her season bests this one. That poor girl suffered mercilessly and was labeled the worst bachelorette, and she's a gem.
True - there is a bit of a "how many different ways can you skin a cat?" formulaic vibe to the series that could that could bring on fatigue. Plus, the Bachelorettes tended to be giggly girl-next-door moderately-attractive types, and we watched to see them potentially level-up and land a guy she might not ordinarily land IRL. A kind of wish-fulfillment exercise for their prime-demo viewer. Trista and Emily are the only conventionally "hot" bachelorettes, and Trista had being dumped by Alex as her sympathy card, but Emily has none. Being a single mom who doesn't have to work because she's living off other people's money isn't really a sympathy card. Plus Emily doesn't bring any of the bubbliness (someone upthread called it spontaneity) that the girl-next-door bachettes did. Finally, the 1-2 punch of Bentley and Courtney leveled-down the Bach/ette series to yet another MTV/VH1 dating show, in the minds of those casual viewers who permanently walked away. Jumping the shark, I think it's called.

Re: The Bachelorette 8 - Ratings thread
I do think the show and PR surrounding it feels tired but I also totally agree about Emily. Why do you think that they made that miscalculation - basically, overestimating her appeal to most viewers? Did they want a "wholesome" response to the Ben/Bentley backlash? I have never understood why they thought she'd be relatable to most viewers.
Honestly, I think the men and their appeal saved the season for them or the ratings could have been much worse.

Ok. Off to bed. But this was how they presented Train Wreck last time. We're not getting that level of flacking this time.
Compare:
"Emotions run high" is copied off the ATFR release for Jason. LOL. It hasn't even happened yet. Are we just counting on Emily to produce some emotions! No mention of proposal for Emily. (Jason had revealed his engagement early in the season)
By the way, does ABC Publicity have no one who can draft an original sentence!
In this gripping special conclusion, Jason prepares to make one of the most difficult decisions of this life. With his search for love now narrowed down to Melissa and Molly, Jason brings his son, Ty, to New Zealand to meet the remaining two women. The bachelorettes are also introduced to his family. Finally, the women lay their hearts on the line, each trying to guarantee that she will be the one to get Jason's final rose. But the Bachelor is stunned when DeAnna, the woman who broke his heart, shows up in New Zealand to see him. In one of the most romantic and dramatic moments in "Bachelor" history, Jason makes a decision that will change his life forever.
Jason's proposal to the love of his life was one of the most romantic moments in Bachelor history, but no one is prepared for what happens when Jason and the final two women return to the studio for "The Bachelor: After the Final Rose." Emotions run high at the unexpected and shocking ending of Jason's journey to find true love, on the one-hour special, "The Bachelor: After the Final Rose."
Viewers will be treated to the latest update on the happy couple and the woman Jason didn't choose on this one-hour special that will wrap the 13th and most successful season of ABC's popular romance reality series in recent years, on "The Bachelor: After the Final Rose, Part 2."
Compare:
After her broken engagement to Brad Womack, single mother Emily Maynard risked everything for a second chance at love, searching not just for a husband but for a father figure for her six-year-old daughter, Ricki. Now, after surviving some stunning twists and turns, Emily has narrowed down the 25 bachelors to two fabulous guys, Arie and Jef. Although her two relationships have progressed at different speeds - passionate and steamy from the start with Arie, while the other with Jef just grew out of a playful crush - Emily is completely in love with both men. She hopes her family, now on the beautiful island of Curaao, will offer some crucial input on which bachelor would make the better match for her. Emily is totally torn between her two suitors and whether she even should introduce Ricki to them. Which man will she choose to leave paradise with and to share her life? Or will she decide not to hand out a final rose? The Season Finale of "The Bachelorette" airs SUNDAY, JULY 22 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.
Then, emotions run high as Emily sits down with Chris Harrison, live, to talk about her final two bachelors. She will take viewers back to those final days in exotic Curaao when she was conflicted about being in love with two men. Emily will discuss her relationships with Arie and Jef and the heart-wrenching decision that changed all of their lives forever. Both men return to share the bombshell outcome of the series. It's the emotional ending to Emily's heartfelt journey to find true love, live, on "The Bachelorette: After the Final Rose,"

Most dramatic, in love with both guys....they need a new angle after all these years!!
How about "watch as Emily bulldozes one guy as she tells him she loved the other guy all along. He then proceeds to throw her in the water, wearing her $20,000 FRC dress". Now that would get ratings!!!

I totally agree. If they hadn't had such a great group of guys this time around, without dragging in past/present girlfriend drama etc., this season would have been a loser. Yeah Jef, yeah Sean, yeah Arie, yeah Doug and many of the other guys - you were great!

Jason also said in interviews that "I fell in love with two women" and I also think it said in press releases that he made the decision that would change all of their lives forever, just like Emily's does. Maybe she does a switcheroo as well. To put the icing on the cake, she might have dumped him too! That would be a h*** of a note! For sure, if that happens, Jason & Molly will be at the ATFR special. We'll have to watch their twitter accounts for their movements this week.
Maybe that is why she told CH during their MTA interview "I tell you what, after the final rose I will do the Running Man"(dance) laughing. She & CH then did a high five, like it was a private joke between them and the look on her face was priceless. She jerks her head and looks straight ahead with her eyes wide open.
Something is definitely afoot. I wonder what RS will say if he's completely wrong about the ending? An article that I read this morning said that the finale ends "abruptly", whatever that means. It was another story about the one she was going to pick getting cold feet. That story has certainly grown legs and taken off. It could be true for all we know, which is nothing!
