@GuardianAngel Thank you for posting all the remembrances for our veterans from around the globe. So fitting. When we visited the American Cemetery in Normandy, I asked what happened to the German soldiers that died during the D-Day invasion. After the war, Germany was a broken, poor country and they didn't have funds to build a nice resting place for their fallen. Many think they don't deserve it but I've learned that most of the armed forces were not Nazis - they were conscripted into military service. I know parents of all persuasions mourn their children who die in war.

@Norcalgal my mother has stories. I cannot imagine living through what she did. She lost her dad in the war. The soldiers were all told to go to the train station, but it was a set up. It was bombed and most of them were killed.

When I last went to Italy, we went to that train station and saw my grandfather's name on the monument.

World War II led to the devastation of the station premises. On 8 December 1943, Allied planes bombed the station, claiming hundreds of civilian and military casualties. In 1951, the passenger building was rebuilt in 1951 as a project of the architect Roberto Narducci.

For years this 5cent a ride has been a wonderful tradition dating back to the early 1900's. The happy smiles on the children are so worth all the work by volunteers to keep it running.  

A St Catharines tradition continues as the Carousel opened today - still 5 cents a ride.
