I wonder how Lesina's mother, an associate professor in social sciences, and ONZM recipient for services to ethnic communities, feels about this whole situation.

Lesina's father George is Samoan/German and although retired now, was a teacher at Mt Albert Grammar for over 20 years.  Her Mother Dr Camille Nahkid is Trinidad & Tobago/Lebanese and is an Associate Professor at the AUT School of Social Sciences and Public Policy. She has done extensive research into Māori and Pasifika educational achievement; family and community among Pasifika youth; factors impacting on migrant resettlement; and culturally relevant research methodologies. In 2018 she was awarded a Member of New Zealand Order of Merit for services to ethnic communities and education.

@AllAboutLove @Bobette Ladies, you said it, I knew it too, we all pretty much agreed and it’s DISASTROUS the way they are using this double Bachelorette. Disappointed that Lily went for it too. Even without seeing the episode, just reading all your comments tells the story. What a backward idea it was. So even if it works out for some in the end ( probably Kurt and Lesina) it’s a big fail for women’s equality and representation of WOC. As if it wasn’t enough...the last official NZ tweet is offensive and a very bad move, strategically. Don’t they know that their target audience is women NOT men ( like Glen) who are fantasizing in having some threesome ! It’s insulting.

Lily already planting the seed that she'll leave single with this post IMO.

Y’all mind if I join this nationally televised tonsil hockey tournament? When I was asked to do this show, woman empowerment was always a main priority of mine. The show had to be about two women raising each other up and supporting one another through such a wild experience. Lesina is a GREAT mate of mine and the amount of support we have been able to offer each other throughout this makes my brain melt in the best possible way. We are two very different women, who are looking for two very different things. There are so many different ways of being a woman in this day and age and to me that is the most exciting thing. It’s amazing to see this franchise represent a woman like myself who isn’t ready for marriage and kids and show that a relationship without these things is still worthy and valid. No matter how this show is edited I can assure you there is no man worth getting in between mine and lesinas bromance. Am I terrified to watch myself pull the small organ in which is my heart, out of my chest and show it to The whole of New Zealand? Yes. Am I going to do it in the most lily way possible? Also yes. Our route is defiantly unconventional, yet I still wouldn’t have had it any other way @dr_lesina Will we find our dream men? Will we choose no one and start dating each other? Will I remember all of their names? How many times can I say “sh!t” on Tv? Only one way to find out. @thebachelorette_nz 7.30 on @tvnz.official

@Bobette it’s clear to me that she’s trying to do some damage control here...and already foreshadows that she is not even looking for a serious long term relationship. I’m not sure how her attempts at back pedaling and reframing her presence will regain the viewers lost on tonight’s episode.
And I have a syntax or vocabulary reaction to her alluding of her ‘ bromance’ with Lesina. That is a term coined for MEN ( Bro’s) , so the right term would be ‘sismance ‘ which is weird... ‘ girlmance ‘ ...? None of these work!

It’s amazing to see this franchise represent a woman like myself who isn’t ready for marriage and kids and show that a relationship without these things is still worthy and valid.

... but IMO they should have made a choice - either a traditional season with the typical F1 ending, OR a New Wave Millennial Bette filming Lily travelling the world with her Boy Harem.  

I would have happily watched either; trying to combine them risks making the season feel disjointed IMO.

@Bobette Exactly! To put the two in the same show is just diluting both of their own stories and vision. Good thing that Lesina and Lily are such great humans and women, they infuse so much good energy despite the messed up context.

I seem to agree with everyone here. Not a fan of two bettes...particularly as Lesina was doing so well on her own. I loved how she got to the hard questions right away and feel that now we will miss out on a lot of those moments simply because they have to divide the show between the two women. I'm not even getting into the WOC debate since what it there to say.

I don't feel as compelled watching Lily because she is 22 and as she herself said last night she is not looking for a serious relationship. I don't care how she sugar coats that these relationships don't have to be as serious, but that they are still meaningful, looking for a travel buddy to have fun and hang around with is just not as interesting as someone who is truly looking for someone. Yes, it could grow into something more, but the odds are slim. I know they are slim no matter what, but at least I can more easily delude myself that it is a possibility with a Lesina vs. Lily.

This is the first season of the NZ Bette. They had such great success with their first season on NZ Bachelor and bringing Art back to host the bette was a stroke of genius. Adding his interactions with Lesina and the guys was great and the narrator has been an unexpected and fresh touch. Lesina is a wonderful bette and if they had trouble casting enough suitable men, then I wish they had just gone with a smaller number of guys. Cast the ones that are truly compatible with her and throw in a few guys just for drama or comedic effect and let the audience see more of the interactions between her and the guys, Art and the guys and just the stuff between the guys. They could have had such a terrific, natural, fresh show, instead now it feels forced and formulaic. I will still watch if only to see what happens with Lesina, but oh, what could have been!!!

I find the editing (so far) to show Lesina asking so many hard questions right off with each man, a little too clinical, almost like a job interview. I enjoy a bachelorette who brings a good laugh (often at the worst guy's expense). Lesina comes across almost prudish - don't know if it's trying to protect her professional reputation. I hope Lily brings some light-hearted fun to the show.

Wow! four times and they bring Lily on again and all she wants is a temporary fling. Those that just want a fling will surely go for her. I have a feeling this will be most. What about the guy who thought they would get both the women? I am having trouble understanding much because of the accents. Aaron and Kurt seemed real interesting for Lesina. What do others on here think? I do not like this 2 Bacheloretts at all. How hard that must be for Lesina who is actually wanting a permanent relationship and having to compete with a free spirit that just wants a temporary 'thing'. IMO What is the difference in the Bacheloretts' ages?

 Thank you "Sprite". That is a large age difference in age. I am watching via the Bachelorette archives site; so I am missing alot because of accents. Love the accents- just hard for me to understand all they say. There are no captions. Interesting though. They had the guys voice who they were most interested in. ( Whose team they were on). That was real interesting- 6 stated no preference. I noticed one of my top picks for Lesina was one Lily was also interested in - Aaron.

I was looking forward to watching Bachelorette Dr Lesina but after hearing that they injected Lily into it now I'm not sure I'll even bother to watch. What a disappointment. I don't like the concept of two but even worse these two don't even match up equally in age or profession. Geez IMO We just might see a bust season coming for Bachelorette New Zealands first season. jmo
