I call my dentist doctor. I call my optometrist doctor.
When addressing a teacher, social worker, etc if he/she has a doctorate, they are called doctor.
Some with the title are more focused on being addressed as such and some are less focused on it.
Personal preference. The title was earned.
ITA. I work at an Optometrist office and they're all Doctors of Optometry. They get their undergrad degree and then 4 more years of training. Some go on to specialize. That's a minimum of 8 years of school which isn't lightweight and they earn the title, imo. Ditto with dentists and chiropractors.
I have no issue with Bryan calling himself a doctor. He earned it. The Abs part doesn't impress me.

I am here, smiling, chuckling, and downright laughing out loud at this conversation. @Aria - the blanket term in use today in healthcare is "Provider." It covers pretty much everyone and every specialist. The term doctor is no longer restricted to physicians because a lot of medical providers who are not physicians, now obtain a Practice doctorate in their fields. And academia has historically used the term doctor for Phd holders who do not have an MD.

There's nothing wrong with Dr. Abs calling himself a doctor since, ya know with technicalities, he is one. For me personally, I've always rolled my eyes at people who insist that everyone know they're doctors, this applies to even medical doctors, but especially non medical ones. You're a doc, great! how about not bringing it up every chance you get though? You'd have so much more respect from me if I were to find out casually through conversation cause it indicates some humility.
I look forward to discovering Dr. Abs' Hidden talents though. Until he rolls out his plans, I'm gonna keep laughing at the Ironies from when the season was airing.

I think the doctor conversation is funny because I can totally see why people think it's super pretentious. I hope he's not all anal about being called a doctor irl.

It's frustrating because I don't feel like people are reading my post! Trust, I am in med school and I've been either volunteering or working in healthcare since high school. I'm aware of all this. I don't have a problem with him referring to himself as a doctor. If you have a PhD, DC, DMD, OD, etc. go right ahead! You've earned it. It's when you write "natural doc" on your IG profile, with zero clarification what type of doctor you are. The average person is going to assume you have a medical degree and is going to trust you (like, for example, buying a weight loss tea that you're shilling or taking medical advice from you) when you are not qualified in that department. I have a cousin who has a PhD in English Literature and is (rightfully) referred to as a doctor. Now, if she just had "natural doc" in her IG, with no mention of her PhD in English Literature, people are going to assume she's medically trained. If she tried to sell tea or start some health business under that title, that's highly unethical. This is becoming a huge problem on social media, with people misleading their credentials and training in the medical field (even MDs who haven't done residencies and are claiming they're specialists, for example). If you are proud of your degree and your training, make it clear! Look at Ashley H. Proudly and clearly titled that she's a pediatric dentist. No room for misunderstandings. That should be the norm. IMO (but not really, as that's just how ethics work).

@jalkire I doubt it, especially if his nickname involves the word "Abs" . He doesn't seem to take himself so seriously IMO.
On another note, people work really hard to get that title! From what I know, chiropractors are proud of their profession and actually distinguish themselves from MD's, because the philosophy behind it is very different from traditional western medicine. So if he wants to include the Dr. before his name and he earned it, I'm all for it.
JMO of course

I have zero doubt that Bryan and Rachel have a plan and zero doubt that plan is does not entail Bryan living off Rachel's job earnings while he lounges around trying to become a model. Bryan is/was a 6 figure earner and there is no way he is going to lay around and not work.
The LatinWe could definitely be used to market Bryan and Rachel together with any promotion they do to enhance their other endeavours.
Bryan would not be able to start practicing in Dallas immediately as a Chiropractor..so since he is just in the process of uprooting his life in Miami and moving to Dallas....I will give him time to settle in and get oriented to his new normal. Bryan unlike many other cast members and similar to Rachel actually has a specialized job and years of education. Chiropractors and Lawyers are not like shop clerks, servers or trainers and myriad of other jobs that are easy to transfer from one city to another without difficulty. I am going to wait awhile and see what Bryan decides to do and I am fairly certain it will be in tandem with Rachel and their aspirations as a couple.

@Aria ITA about the use of the word "doctor"; and to be fair, he did post on his IG a couple of weeks ago about being a chiropractor, and he has always posted things like that on his account:
https://www.instagram.com/p/BXEQg1TDYIh/?taken-by=thebryanabasolo
So I'm hoping that any random person who comes across his page and sees "Natural Doc" also takes the time to scroll through his page for more information before they blindly trust him. Besides if people are getting medical advice via Instagram and then feel misled, that's on them! But hey what do I know

I don't understand the issue. In my neck of the woods, if you're not a Dr, you can't call your self a Dr. Chiropractors are advertised as Dr.
If you're a Personal Support Worker you can't call yourself a Nurse. If someone adverstises Dr. they better be a Dr. otherwise whatever license they have may be revoked, coupled with hefty fines. That's for all titles.
If I see a Dr. than I know he is entitled to that title.
IMO he's a chiropractor which requires years of schooling. It's not a night course you take at the local college. He didn't go from job to job with no stability, or skill for the last 14-15 yrs. as per his history that was sleuthed.
Whether he's considered a Doctor in the U.S or not, he is a chiropractor and that in itself IMO is quite the achievement when he probably started his studies around 24-25yrs old.

He is considered a Dr in the US. He has his doctorate and as such is a Dr. he has never held himself out as a medical Dr. so much of this conversation confuses me.GuardianAngel wrote:I don't understand the issue. @Tiggerlgh It's confusing to me too.
There are 23-24 yr olds that make a living shilling, calling themselves influencers with one click of a button, that they can do without getting dressed. More power to them, but I'll also give credit to someone who knows every bone in my body.
