Sadly, that thought has crossed my mind too.
I am really happy they picked Rachel over Raven. Finally, a mature, accomplished and beautiful woman for the lead. I hope mature accomplished good-looking men will apply to win her heart.  Fingers crossed!

As much as I may wish that, I still think she will get the standard 4-5 possibles like every lead before her. After all, they have a show to produce and they will have their drunk, their villain, their not there for the right reasons, has a girlfriend at home MOT people.

I wonder if part of them announcing it this early wasn't also to put a dig into RS. They are spoiling his last few weeks with people reading to see what he has to say. We know there is no love lost between TPTB and him.

I read along here before I got a chance to watch and I didn't think he and Vanessa's date went that bad. Yes she was disappointed but she has to know he can't say it and KUDOS to Nick for only wanting to say it to one gal.
I loved that Ryan tweeted that out to Vanessa.

I know lots here think there is trouble in paradise but I don't see it. JMO

I know it's editing fooling me, but I got a weird feeling with him and Vanessa. Like they will just butt heads. I got a much better feeling with him and Raven tbh. I hope he didn't make a mistake. I hope he didn't choose who he thought he should choose. jmo.

Given that they were in Bimini, it would've been nice to hear local music. I was disappointed with that choice. I loved that Nick took Rachel to a local bar, though. I'm tired of the yacht dates. When they were on St. Thomas, the local cultural dance group entertained them and it was nice to see that. i also liked that they highlighted the local historic site, Fort Christian. BTW, St. Thomas is my hometown and it was great seeing familiar sites.

Late to the party but have enjoyed reading all your comments.

The strangest thing for me this epi was that being it is a prelude to HTDs, the one person the edit ignored in this epi, and previously, is Vanessa in terms of family info.  Strange because her intro vid stressed being interested in Nick because of his relationship with his family and she told him this directly on their first 1-1.  All we know is that grandfather died and that her family supported her being on the show.
Contrast to knowing specifics:
Rachel (who looked great on JK and was impressive) - long marriage and info about her dad
Corinne - nanny, mom had cancer, works with dad
Raven - lives in same town as folks, dad had cancer

The omission really stood out to me.

The hatchet job choppy edit is horrible. These last few episodes are a mess. IMO Vanessa and Nick must be broken up. I think rushing Rachel's announcement and switching the narrative points to the lack of a HEA ending. MF/TPTB seem to have given up on this season IMO. Vanessa is so absentee and when she was shown the focus is on her serious side and cut out all her fun, goofy bits. I find this season devoid of continuity or a watchable storyline. Ugh Ugh Ugh.

Bring on the Bachelorette. Rachel will be wonderful IMO.

It's interesting that I read many doubts whether Nick and Vanessa are still together or not, based on the edit and the Bette announcement.

The edit is no surprise, since it's been the same since the beginning ... making the viewers question whether Nick is in a relationship at all (rejected again or if he chooses at all).

The announcement of Rachel as the new Bette isn't that much surprising considering the timeline, the beginning of filming of the new season and the fact that as "shocking" it might be with all the hype of "making history", there are new contestants to be considered and new audience to draw in with this "historic" move.
Also, this way her elimination can be another plot for TPTB ... since the edit makes "Vanessa doubt", so at the end it can be viewed as Nick making a mistake letting the other good option go ... and Nick's decisions this season are really being questioned as never before.

I wouldn't count on it. No matter how wonderful the lead, everything is always dependant on the edit.

Just a few short weeks ago most were questioning why was it so easy? Why are they showing us this great connection between Vanessa and Nick? This was the best first date ever!!!...and now there is doubt. Yadda, yadda, yadda. This is the time in the season when doubt always creeps in. Depending on the storyline and the spoiled F1, everything we have known gets called into question. People start doubting that the spoiled/sleuthed F1 really is. Always. Every single season! I have forgotten how many times I have written this.

The storyline this season seems to be will Nick be rejected yet again and doubt is creeping in. The edit is right on schedule...as always.

No matter what the edit throws at us in the next few weeks, I fully expect Nick to propose, Vanessa to accept and to see a happy couple...at least at the AFTR. What happens after will be entirely up to the two of them, but thus far, I'm seeing a couple of pretty happy people.
