Yes, it was a last min change due to the weather. CH talks about it here. I think they did the best they could in those circumstances.
The production team came up with a plan B “within a matter of 12 to 15 hours,” Harrison continues. “There was no preproduction for that week. We had to change everything about what we were going to do including the location and the dates themselves. We were flying by the seat of our pants, booking random hotel rooms, and setting up dates on the fly.”
When they realized the last-minute location change was necessary, Harrison suggested letting Nick and the women in on what was happening. “I said, ‘Let’s just be honest and embrace it and make it fun,’” says the host. “By the time I had to have the talk with the girls about the week, we still had no idea where we were going. It was like, ’We are going somewhere today, but we’re not sure where that somewhere is.’”

Also there was an article that interviewed the farm owner and he said it was all last minute. And while Nick did not grow up in a farming family, he still grew up in Wisconsin which has a large farming community. The farm is a "cheese farm" and Wisconsin is known for its cheese. Plus I think they try to put the lead and contestants into awkward situations to bring out the drama. It looks like it worked per the preview. I'm looking forward to it as my father's family are farmers.

I grew up in Missouri. That does not mean I did anything close to a farm other than visit Grant's Farm and the petting zoo.
My opinion is simply there are a lot of great things that can be done last minute that exemplify the beauty of the location. TPTB chose to have them shoveling poop almost as a symbolic metaphor. They are chit stirrers.

Most looking forward to the cafe convo Nick has with his parents before going on the 1-1 with DLo.

Sidenote, I forgot who mentioned it. I think it was someone from the Here to Make Friends podcast. They said that Nick's mom gave them Robin Wright vibes. As a House of Cards fan (and a huge Claire Underwood fan), that's an amazing compliment!

I love his mom and family they are so close with each other and support one another in what ever they do. Nick is a very lucky man that has the best parents as role models. When he is with his mom he just lights up ! What a incredible family !

That gif of Nick and his mom is wonderful. I love a man that bear hugs his mom like that. I really love his family - they seem very down to earth, kind and supportive. Really looking forward to seeing them again.
