Bachelor Australia - Season 4 - Richie Strahan - Episode Discussion - *Sleuthing - Spoilers* #3

TPTB really screwed Richie & Alex. I get they want suspense, but to give the F1 such a whiny, desperate edit is horrible. They could have shown more their connection & still created 'suspense'.

I can't understand how people can be angry over one person choosing the "wrong one" in their eyes (SM) I have seen a lot of bachelors/bachelorettes choosing another one than I would have picked, but thats just it... I am not the one thats picking. I am not the one thats choosing one for me. How can one be angry at a person following the heart, they are the one having to be in that relationship, having to be happy with their choice! Not me or someone else. I do understand how you can feel sorry for the one not being chosen, I also were (almost everytime, also when I didn't even like her/him).

I did always think the chemistry between R and A was really obvious. I just didn't think he would choose her just because they usually don't choose that one. I did believe though from what they made me see that he was the most into Alex.

I thought this would happen. Production really screwed this or not. Man they must hate Alex.

And it's still going on like crazy. To me it feels like all that goodwill people had for Richie after the Bachelorette last year has just evaporated in the last hour.

I just wonder if TPTB couldn't have handled this better from the get-go. Having shock and surprise value in this series is one thing, but it sorta has to make SENSE as well doesn't it? Crazy editing.

You're right, I think they are expressing their angry for production for conning them with him and nikki, without knowing they are mad a production. Reality is it was productions job to show their story and they didn't. If production did their job and didn't go for shock value, nikki would seem less like a catch and Alex would have been perfect for him. This is all thanks to production.

Its because our fave affirms who we are.
I agree, in the end, we get up and go about our own lives with our own relationships that may not be perfect.
The Bach is just doing the same with the person they chose for whatever reason that really can never be known by us.
I love the show because it allows you to imagine, see life sped up x 10, see peoples qualities and faults but in the end it's the people in the show that have to return to reality and live.
Just like we all do.

Its not so much being angry with that specific person as it is this: the show asks you to root for people; it wants you to invest in a specific outcome - obviously people are going to be disappointed when they don't get the outcome they want. I haven't even seen anything particularly vicious on twitter. Its mostly people just being supportive of and disappointed for Nikki (understandably!)

I don't think it's that so much, IMO, as the audience are primed to really just want a decent love story that seems to make sense. Frankly, the audience just didn't get it this year, it was confused and the outcome seems illogical given the edit we saw.

I did see it though. For me he was the most into Alex the whole time and I didn't really understand why so many didn't see it. I guess if people go back and watch all their scenes a lot would see it. I do think that Nicki was more lovable and we usually see what we want to see so I guess that means that many saw the connection between him and Nicki and then felt betrayed afterwards.

Agreed the edit was so focused on steering us away from the F1 that they forgot the love story.
They need to pitch the balance between risk management and doing their job well.
Perhaps risk management prevailed.
No surprise in that, just disappointment for all.
