Re: Do you remember?
Fizzles! I always wanted those and mom always said no. https://www.flickr.com/photos/tracis_retro/3194376928/ Soda was a treat. Going out to eat was a treat. There was little to no fast food! A cheeseburger at McDonalds' was 35cents.

Re: Do you remember?
Getting spanked by neighbor's mom, never to tell your own parents because you would get spanked again?
Calling the grocery store ordering comic books and candy, saying charge it (at 8 years old) and having it delivered.
Playing outdoors until the street lights came on.
Watching Father Knows Best, thinking that's what married life will be like for you.
Aw yes, fond memories.

I remember the milk man and the egg man! I also remember some Italian man that would come on Saturdays and sell pots pans and dishware out of his trunk.
Do you remember Woolworths Department store? They had a lunch counter in the store.

Walgreen's was across the street from Woolworths downtown and was my mom's go-to lunch place during a shopping day. Loved the atmosphere and the BLTs!

My brother, sister and I would sneak and listen in on the convos of the teenagers down the street. And do a lot of giggling into the phone. They must've hated the little pipsqueeks that we were!

The grocery stores had little mini kiosks of movie theaters where mom could drop off us kids while doing the marketing. We were tots! Woody wood pecker or Our Gangs would run. Can you even imagine dropping your kids off in something like this now? We would be arrested. :shocked!:

I was just about to post about Woolworths and the lunch counter ... such a wonderful treat on Saturdays.
I remember the knife sharpening man going around the neighbourhood ringing a bell and dragging a whetstone behind him.

Our Rexall Drugs had a soda fountain and I'd get either a chocolate or Vanilla Coke.

Re: Do you remember?
My great grandmother lived across the road when I was a tiny tot. She had a well and each morning pulled up a bucket of cold water, stuck the ladle in it and left it on the back porch. We kiddos played all over the area, so got a drink from the ladle whenever we wanted.

My mother in law still uses a wriger washing machine and my cousin does not have running water or a bathroom in his house. He also heats it with his wood stove in the winter.
