I honestly didn't realize there was such a thing. Is there some kind of interior design company she can work for? Maybe she can open her own "business".Kashathediva wrote:I wonder what people who have actual degrees in interior design think of that. LOL

With her career aspirations, it's going to need to be TBH IMO.nd4reality wrote:I just hope the compensation to do this show is extremely generous.

I had several very good friends in college majoring interior design. It was not a cush major 37 yrs ago.Lennoxcolinrolland wrote:I honestly didn't realize there was such a thing. With as tough of a job market out there, I can not see her getting a job at a company without some credentials and experience, unless we are talking about the furniture dept of Target or Kmart.
Opening her own business takes capital. Then who is going to be the designer? It's not just throwing some scatter rugs and throw pillows in a room..its coordinating and measuring and so many things I am not even aware. I had this service personally years ago, it's an investment. You don't want to invest in someone who hasn't a clue.
Does Lauren have a degree in interior design?

I honestly thinks she is going to be the next Peyton and Ben will end up Chris Lambton. What she fails to realize is the amount of hard work both of those people have put into everything they have done. It will take more than buying bland white background art to put on her bland walls. And didn't she major in business? If interior design was a real passion she could have majored in it, but just like most things I have seen from her it is her "interest" for this minute and she will probably abandon it as quickly as she abandoned being a flight attendant. JMO.

All true. These career aspirations seem to be similar as to why she decided to be a flight attendant in the first place. She didn't really like sitting at a desk 9-5 (pretty sure that's what she said on some level in an interview) and she's very spontaneous. I don't believe she has an interior design degree. She has a degree in business management.Kashathediva wrote:I had several very good friends in college majoring interior design. Sorry, it all comes across as whatever I can do to not have to work a real job to me. I have watched this show before with many before her, she is neither the first nor the last who will do it. JMO.

Here's the thing. Reality TV is supposedly supposed to represent an array of people, right? Big personalities, reserved, arrogant, kind, selfless, self-centered, judgmental, smart, simple... The list goes on and on. All types. Not everyone is going to change the world after going on reality TV. Some are going to shill products and some are going to disappear and some are going to actually move on to bigger and better things. And some fall somewhere in between.
Lauren's no different. She's not special to everybody. She clearly is to Ben. She has a business degree from a good university, realized early in life a 9 to 5 desk job wasn't for her and became a flight attendant which suited her lifestyle and personality. She was supporting herself by 24. That's actually impressive now a days. It was never her dream job, but you do what you have to do as an adult to survive and not be completely miserable.
Now she meets Ben, falls in love and it awards her the opportunity to find things that she's passionate about. Good for her. I'm actually jealous. She's never said she's going to immediately become an interior designer, that's just what she's interested in and not for nothing, if you follow her closely she's done an amazing job with the projects at their house. She does have a knack for it. Ben even touted it on twitter a while back.
We only know what she allows us to see, that's with all of these peoples. She clearly supports Ben, follows his lead and I think that's why it works. He's more vocal about his passions, she's happy to be by his side. I don't see anything wrong with that. Honestly I think her biggest purpose in life will be to creat a family much like her own. What a wonderful mom I can see her being and what a wonderful family I bet they'll have. Surface level for some, is purpose for others. We only see the surface with these people anyways. I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt of what's underneath because everything I've seen she's a kind and compassionate person. And her family is pretty awesome, too.
I don't wish Ben good luck, actually, I think he got lucky.

I agree. Her career/hobby aspirations are a bit puzzling though. I'm interested in what comes about that whole situation as the show airs. IMO.SeekAny wrote:Here's the thing. Does Peyton have a degree/background in interior design or landscape? Genuinely curious, I have no idea. Ditto Chris? I was under the impression his educational background was in education, like he was a teacher, and the landscaping stuff was a family business? That he decided to go into full time after he decided he was done with the teacher thing? You know, like a lot of people do when they try different careers, especially when young? I have no idea... Just questions.
Yeah... I don't think it's a big deal at all for a girl who is in her mid 20s to play around and think about possible different career moves. She has a degree in business management, didn't like the traditional office job right out of college, so became a flight attendant for a few years while it fit her lifestyle, single, anonymous, fancy free. Then her life changed. And now she's thinking about other options and interests, what to do next. So basically she's brainstorming because she's at a crossroad. I'll go ahead and cut her a break on that one. She's always struck me as a kind, devoted, gentle person. She's passionate about her family, her friends, animals, her fiancé, her faith. Not everyone can be Rhode Scholars with it all figured out 100% at the age of 26. I'm 33 and thinking about my next career move. Whatever.
ETA: @SeekAny, per usual, you said it better than I ever could. Lauren has become a fave of mine. Can't agree more, Ben got so lucky with her.

I will definitely be supportive of anyone who seriously make a career change and follow their dreams.
Hopefully, she can take the time and go back to school and learn from the bottom up. When I see that, I will take it seriously.
I liken this to ex-cast who finished her red carpet dress on a plane and then told Nicole Miller she was interested in fashion design.
Real life takes more than a whim and a wish. It's hard work. Even someone like Jessica Simpson, Cindy Crawford, Jaclyn Smith are involved in the design process etc when selling their name.
I don't see Lauren in their league of selling her name.

It's going to take a complete personality about face, huge behavioral changes, and basically a personality transplant for me to start to see the similarities between Andi and Lauren.
She said she's interested in interior design and fashion. That's all. No biggie. Let's see what (if anything) she does with it. *EDIT*
