What might be a waste to us superfans who have probably already heard everything she has to say post Bachelorette, may not be for someone who likely isn't in the reality TV crowd.
As someone who IS the target audience for TEDx/TED events, I have and can again restate unequivocally that TEDx's target audience couldn't care less about reality-TV stars. These are people are more invested in making a positive and lasting change in their communities and society and one which is based on evidence/action/results and not cheap words. Further, speaking as someone who happens to also be a part of the audience for reality-TV, my opinion is much more positive than most of the target audiences would be. Thus it's really not saying much when I state that Kaitlyn even being at this event was ludicrous.

Must've been a memorable once in a lifetime experience, it certainly was a Bachelor nation first.
Speaking for myself, after the ATFR media rounds I said I wished they'd show us different sides because the partying was getting boring. Well - settling on Nashville as home, Movember, TEDx Van, upcoming veterans charity work, a trip to Germany - they seem to finally be doing just that.
I'm sure I won't always agree with their decisions and not everything will be done perfectly or up to certain standard, but this is nice to see, hope it continues in that direction.
Well said Bleu as always. ;)

Agreed. I think the change in their behavior lately with all the charity work and seemingly setting down, seems to be, dare I say, refreshing.

kimberlyg wrote:Okay, so if Kaitlyn went on the show to build her brand, what exactly is her brand? I think that's what I'm most confused about. She doesn't seem to be interested in having a business or doing anything to support her fitness/dance background. She doesn't seem like she's trying to get into any facet of the entertainment industry like Ali or Jillian did (or less successful trying like Andi is doing). Does she just want to be a Periscope/Snapchat star? Because that seems... limited.
At least Shawn seems to be on the same page and doesn't seem to have any career goals either, but I don't really see that as a good thing in the long run. All they both really have is their relationship, and if it falters at all or they go through any hard times, will they really be able to sustain it?
Well she has/had that website. Blogging is an actual profession these days as crazy as that seems. Too bad she hasn't updated it in a month or something, nor does she have a link to it anywhere in sight. Seems like it went down the tube faster than Andi's site.

Wait, she abandoned her website already? I will never understand why people build one, talk about it and then just drop it like it's a hot potato.

Perhaps, because they discover it isn't as easy as they thought? It might actually require some thought...and gasp, heaven forbid...actual work?

^Lol. That's probably true. Not that I think Kaitlyn was going to write any really thought provoking pieces or tackle controversial topics anyway.
It's all for the better to me. It's one less website from someone in the franchise that I never read.

It takes a lot of dedication to run a website. It takes a lot more to make it creative and something to capture an audience. They don't sustain themselves.
I don't think Kaitlin has the fortitude or desire. I mean isn't this someone who has yet to spend 60 days in one location since the show's (aired) FRC? Has she even been been somewhere for 30?

I've watched many TED talks both for academic purposes and personal enjoyment and I was interested in what she had to say and was glad she was included.
Also, Bleuberry love and agree with all your posts, too many to quote, so just a shout out here.

My point is the target audience (thus the majority audience who actually attend these events) is not Kaitlyn's audience.
So while her talk may be enjoyable or interesting, the sole purpose for the TEDx community for speakers is to inspire action and thus results. Without action, talk is meaningless. And a talk from a reality-tv person like Kaitlyn whose claim to fame is having sex before the FS while being mic'd is meaningless when it comes to things that truly matter from a TEDx purpose perspective.
ETA: From what I have been told, Kaitlyn was not exactly received very well by this target audience and not surprisingly given she has done nothing in comparison to the fellow speakers to even remotely make sense for her being there. Furthermore, I was informed by a few people working on the show that they changed course and didn't go with anti-bullying as her main topic and rather just her being a reality-tv person even though anti-bullying/cyber-bullying was what had been spun for her to be about. Again, not surprising since she has no history of making any strides towards changing this. I imagine if they had focused on that there would have been some backlash since she is no pioneer for that cause. So just being a reality-star with her business and brand was the approach they took. In a word - meaningless. JMO
