In Ontario, if CS did this- he would most likely spend his life in jail.

I'm not normalizing Chris' behavior or saying it's ok. Not by any means. But take away the actual accident - how he ended up in this situation... but the speeding and driving drunk parts. People do that kind of stuff every day. Repeatedly. Most get through life without huge consequence from these decisions, and thus avoid the judgment of others. Sadly, unfortunately, Chris did not. 1/4.
Good for the people of IA that at least one got caught then imo. One less on their roads, I hope.

I guess... my background is in social work too. I see this stuff in a lot more gray than most, probably.

Again, what Chris did is inexcusable. Not making excuses for him. Just trying to explain that 1:4/3:4 analogy that another poster brought up. I think it's kind of compelling to think about.

No one's perfect, but some have worse judgment than others, that's just a fact. That's why we have repeat offenders and on the other hand those who never have run-ins with the law. It's not all about luck.

Any details on where he went - was he with anyone?

He apparently fled on feet but his truck was found at a house where he was at (unknown) where he wouldn't cooperate until police issued a warrant. I guess there was a witness who stopped for his id ?

Eta: I would also like to know if speed was a factor or what. WHat was the speed limit where he was?

Did he think he was above the law? A deceased man and all he can think about is hiding and making the police get a search warrant for hours....that's some crazy thinking, imo

Did he honestly think he was going to get away with it? The uncooperative parks irks me. I still think he had been drinking. Why else wouldn't he cooperate.

The whole "search warrant for hours" thing seems too thought out for him to be drunk, imo. I think he was probably not drunk, just tipsy, or maybe didn't drink at all. He knew exactly what he was doing, IMO.
