The Bachelor Canada - Season 2 - Episode 5 - Oct 14 - Discussion - *Spoilers*

In the previous episode Tim and April are on the group shark diving date...
Tim says he felt like it was just the two of them and no one else... and he felt like he knew what it would feel like "to BE with her" (i.e., in the real world).

Then, in this episode, he shows her *his* world?!

I actually loved this episode the most out of any TB season. By Tim showing April where he lives and making it personal, not just 'here is my family' but here is 'where I live, work/ed, day-to-day life and routine, driving on his own motorcycle down streets he drives all the time' is actually really significant. It gives us viewers a glimpse into who he is in the real world and not just the producer/fantasy/adventurous dates we usually see prior to HTD.

We get what I call "The F1 Theme Music" when he takes her to a place that "means a lot" to him: where he made a huge decision in his life to choose to be happy, to do the things in his life that make him happy. He tells April that he wanted to take her to this place where his life changed drastically because "this is a time in my life where everything is changing drastically again". Tim says he is putting himself on the line by telling and show April this. They talk about love, what makes a relationship work. Trust becomes the main topic (the arc of their storyline this season) and how they are both single because they both want an unconditional love. To me, taking her to a very personal place seemed very real in regards to his intentions and what he had said in the previous episode when they were shark diving.

And then, making it even more *real* and not about the glitz/glamour/adventure, they play pool. Such a regular, every-day, typical date thing to do. If April is F1 as I immediately thought from episode 1, then Tim is really doing his own thing and trying to make it as 'real' as possible. I admire that. And I have great respect for the producers for allowing it.

Tie all this in with Tim's blog post for episode 5 titled"This Is Getting Real" where he says he wanted to show April his life in Toronto and April's Episode 5 Blog telling how she met Tim's best friend and fiance? This is real life shown very early on, before HTD, which is rare, if not unprecedented!

The fact that Tim wanted to show her his life in Toronto because, as he states, "I felt we both had the most questions about each other when it came to this" indicates that they both wanted to confirm that what they felt was real and not conjured up from being in the bubble, that their intentions were both genuine in finding love.

Tim taking April on his own motorcycle, on a tour of his own day to day life, and having her meet his best friend and best friend's fiance (which indicates he is wanting to be at the same place as his best friend in addition to getting feedback from his best friend concerning April) are things that one does in the real world, outside of cameras. It also shows how serious he is about April.

The US version has been around for what, over 20 seasons before Bachelor Canada even started. When the Canada version is around that long, then I think it's fair to compare dates.

I believe the US version started out with only 6 episodes and just kept getting bigger. Maybe they felt more comfortable filming the second time around and felt it needed the extra episode. Maybe they had an extra time slot to fill. I think I also read somewhere that there is some issue with exactly how the episodes are counted...if the WTA was counted as an episode? Maybe there is no reason other than it makes them more money.

I still don't get why there hasn't been a DVD made showing all seasons. It would show just how different this show was.

just wanted to comment on the April being "hidden" that some of us are talking about. Yes she's getting many of the F1 one edits, but there's also so much that's being left out that was included in the preview footage. Makes me wonder if they wanted to show us more of them as a couple but are now holding back within the edit as it would make it even more obvious to us than it is.
We need to keep in mind also that we're seasoned sleuths... we know what to look for, what to watch for in edit, we listen to the music (darn I miss the days of the guitar music which always signalled who the F1 was ) we watch for intro videos, we watch to see who's the chaser and who'd the chasee etc etc.

if anybody knows anyone who's just an average viewer and not a boardee... their opinion would be helpful I think.

This excerpt is from Sachelle's blog & gives us some information that the show didn't. Apparently, Dominique did have a 1:1 with Tim & decided to leave after it. Lisa gets extremely drunk at cocktail party & tells Tim off (regarding Natalie according to Lisa's blog).

One other interesting note, in Kaylynn's blog she says she's not sure if her time here is worth all the drama she's having to experience. This week it clearly stems from the group date. But it reminds me of foreshadowing similar to what we saw with Dominique.

Fast-forward to the end of the week and Natalie shows up and tells us she regrets leaving on her own. I think I can speak on behalf of all of the girls when I say that we were all completely taken aback, though some handled it a little worse than others (cough, cough… Lisa). I understand that Natalie wanted closure, but I was confused since she seemed so sure that she didn’t want a man determining her fate. I guess she had made a sudden emotional decision in the Bahamas and hadn’t given it much thought? Dominique also made an emotional decision when she sent herself home after her one-on-one. I was disappointed to see her go, but saw it coming since Dom constantly mentioned having little-to-no connection with Tim. I think she’s confident with her decision and don’t envision her coming back.

Just when I thought the week couldn’t get any crazier, Lisa decided to, once again, drink FAR TOO MUCH at the cocktail party and took most of the heat off of Natalie and Dom with her state of intoxication. It was funny at first, but quickly got painful and I was really surprised to see how well Tim was taking it, especially when she was telling him off.

Very interesting ... I do wonder why they didn't show that.

Lisa sure sounds like a piece of work, that's all I got to say about her.

I think Sachelle is more in the friend zone with Tim. Like her but there's no real connection with him, not a romantic one anyway.

As nutso as Kaylynn is, I find that I don't dislike her as much as I used to..... didn't see that coming. haha

Trish, not sure what to really think of her. I think lot's of her perceived "meaness" is really just sarcasm and humour being edit out of context to make her appear more mean than she is. (I didn't take her comment about April's happiness to be what she intended... I think it was more just her sarcastic snese of humour and in the real PI I bet she laughed at the end of it or something like that) Definitely not something they do to an F1.

Regarding the bold...

Ha! I mentioned the F1 Theme Music! I am inclined to think that the relatively new franchises (TBCA and TBAU) still utilise this (TBAU had F1 Theme Music from beginning to end, in fact they used the exact same melody! LOL).

Guitar Music can be heard (just from what I have sleuthed, I didn't check for Episodes 3):
- Episode 1: in April's intro video
- Episode 2: forget background guitar music, Allen actually serenades Tim+April with a guitar serenading after Rimmel date. LOL (would be funny if this is why they edited guitar music into April's scenes once filming ended)
- Episode 4: when April and Tim are swimming alone together with the sharks and he talks about how he can imagine just being with April and then... he takes her on a tour of his hometown, on the backseat of his own motorcycle, and she meets his best friend... (and Tim meets with his parents too?! see media thread on Tim for more on this...)
- Episode 5: at the end of their TO date after playing pool, when Tim asks her if she wants to stick around because he wants her to stick around.


Btw: I am not a seasoned sleuth (actually looking for specific SC, clues, whatnot) like many of you here. I only started sleuthing on the last few episodes of TBAU Season 2 and now starting on TBCA Season 2. Usually I just went with my own personal take on things for other seasons/franchises. In any event, what has always worked for me in figuring out who the potential F1 may be is to watch TB eye movement, especially when he is in a group of women and addressing them. If you notice at the end of Episode 5, he looks at April constantly as if he is talking solely to her.

haha... too true! It may be the very reason there are Blogs keeping us abreast of what is going on each episode to provide a fuller picture since the episodes are short.

One thing I noted in Tim's bio he talks about his parents marriage and wanting a love like theirs... an 'unconditional love' and then in this Episode 5, April tells him she wants an 'unconditional love' and Tim just lights up and responds... "I guess that's why we are both..." and April says, "here [on the show]" and Tim says "single". They were speaking the same language.

I thought it was interesting to note that Sachelle reminds me of Lesley Murphy from Sean's season because just like Sean did with Lesley, Tim asked Sachelle what was going on in regards to the girls and what not. It seems like they have a discussion next week too about Lisa. It just makes sense to me now why Sachelle most likely goes home after hometowns. He seems to like her, but it's more like friends.

I don't have the slightest clue though as to how Kaylynn could possible make it to fantasy dates or maybe Tim only takes two girls? Since we only have proof of April on Moorea maybe he just takes her?! That would be hilarious.

What I found interesting...other than finding out all the other stuff going on behind the scenes from the ladies blogs...was Tim's reference to Kaylynn. He basically said he wanted to spend time with her at Canada's Wonderland to see if there was still anything there...kind of indicating that whatever he may have felt, is now waning. Even more indication that her drama made him lose interest and that April is the F1. Kaylynn was the closest that I saw to any competition. Interestingly, April and Kaylynn seem to be BFFs in the house since they always seem to be together.
