Re: Nick Viall Bachelorette 10 - Fan Forum - Updates - Discussion - Thread #10
I like this expert.
Sometimes people laugh off any emotional damage that sex can do to guys. The boys-will-be-boys mentality suggests the majority of men are really just looking to add another “notch on their belt.” Because of this unfair – inaccurate – stereotype, it’s often considered unmanly for a man to speak about the emotional repercussions of sex. But I’m here to attest that men fall in love just as hard as women do and that sex can be just as powerful to a man as it is to a woman. wrote:

Great article! This is exactly why I feel that Nick was so justified in what he said eventhough he didn't plan to say it. Andi was so wrong in what she did. She should have taken it seriously when he made it clear to her what having sex with her would mean to him. I hoping that Nick will find that special someone that views sex as he does. I love Nick even more after reading this article.
Me too! I still feel bad that Nick had to have this happen to him but I am glad he is able to use this as a platform for what he believes in and hopefully move on to bigger and better things.
ETA: Of course, those who are not fans will find fault with his blog like everything else - but I liked it and I like the fact that Sean let him speak his peace.
Nick quote:
"Sex, when enjoyed in the right context, is a wonderful way to solidify a relationship. But when expectations aren’t the same for both partners, it can be devastating."
I think this is such a valid and great message for Nick to send out given he has younger siblings who watched the show. I also like his open attitude toward intimacy and sex in general - just a natural part of a healthy relationship. I know there has been much controversy about his openness but my world aligns with his and perhaps that comes from a common rearing. It's just a form of expression that is stronger than words when in the proper context. It is important to acknowledge we are, in part, sexual beings, and that sex is not only about procreation but also about the art of lasting love.
A personal share - throughout my childhood, my parents would leave us naughty children with family or a sitter for several weekends a year so they could have weekends away. They showed,by example, that they were able to maintain a loving bond with us children while also maintaining their own lovers bond. When young, I thought this was normal but later came to realize how special this really was. I am forever grateful to them for their mentorship in what is possible between a man and a woman over a lifetime.
Such a "feel good" article despite the circumstance. My respect for this man continues to grow.

However, she started explaining away our relationship in the tidiest terms. In her explanation, she confessed that she had never loved me.
I let that sink in.
She never loved me.

I know sad. I wish things had been so different than what they turned out to be.... still hard for me to get over although things worked out for the best I suppose, I just wish she had been different. It's why I can't really go back and watch still knowing how things turned out in the end. Nor can or will I ever care about what she and her f1 are doing either.

Thanks for sharing NR! I think Nick has a great example in his parents. Yes, I agree on how important it is to maintain that lover's bond with your spouse. Sex is beautiful when done in the right context.

That’s why I feel Andi’s decision to have sex with me was not appropriate. Either she was unsure about our relationship or – worse – she was certain she was choosing Josh. In both of those circumstances, I felt as if she didn’t respect my feelings and that she should not had sex with me.

This! I tried to explain this to one of my more "cavalier" friends and her response was "she wasn't engaged to either and she could do what she wanted. That's what happens in the FS" This same friend was more upset by the constant verbal reassuring she gave Nick during the LCD.

"Let me say this: don’t shame Andi to support me. We all make mistakes, I’ve made mistakes. In a culture where sex has no bounds, it’s hard to figure out how to fit it into your life without hurting each other. That’s why it’s important to be sensitive to the emotional attachment that sex has to your potential partner and to treat it with the greatest amount of respect."
Need to do something productive and stop hanging out in this forum (after Nick's season)

Although not surprising, given all the sweet things he said about me, really appreciate @seanloweksu for the opportunity to share my final thoughts on last weeks AFR. Check out Sean's blog here: http://ow.ly/A4i5H
