I would perceive it a someone who sought out professional advice via a program for a personal issue. Hopefully it provided a positive strength and she was able to move on from there in a healthy fashion. MOAA

I would say good for her for not only getting out of the relationship but seeking help from professionals, so she can move on.

If I was a contestant, I would want to make sure this does not come up otherwise it could get out of hand very quickly. All those who know the contestant, most likely knows who the ex was. There might be legal issues involved as well. There's a time and place for everything, this, IMHO is not a subject for reality TV.

As a viewer though, knowing that back story, I give her tons of credit for doing the right thing for her!

If this were to come out during filming, I would expect TPTB to treat it like they did other sensitive issues, in other words, poorly. This show victimizes on many different levels--the edit, dates, subtle and not so subtle pot stirring.
I will never understand why anyone would go through with one of MF's amazing journeys.

TPTB do investigative background checks.

Yes, they do--and psychological tests.
They are not a friend of the cast.   
Like I've said in the past, I would discourage anyone from being a part of this farce. JMOAA

I wouldn't trust TPTB one bit with that back story. They would have to have it in writing they don't want that mentioned, but good luck with that, because we know how they operate. As a matter of fact, they would probably love to have someone with that past history.

She's been told that it would be a positive because it gives her the opportunity to show that women come through that experience positively.

I would never believe anything they told me. It would have to be spelled out in detail in a contract. I don't know that they would do that for one of the 25.

I wouldn't believe anything they said to me either. She has to be absolutely ready for the worst. Not only from the show, but the negative comments she is surely to receive via SM.

The sleuthers alone will find out info whether it's true or just rumours. It will be all out there. If she is familiar with this show, and how it affects some of the contestants, then she can decide if she wants to take that route.

Maybe it will be worth it for her, as in she may be the F1, and maybe it will be another form of healing in dealing with it. OTOH she can't hold back any opportunities that she may have because of what's happened in the past conditional that she is aware of how nasty it may get. JMHO I would love to know what her thoughts are. What is she concerned about, what is she looking forward to.

I would perceive it in a positive light, but as mentioned before it could become her complete storyline.
Melissa, always hurt by her boyfriends in the past, Chris L, quit his job to take care of his mother, Jason, the single dad, Emily the single mom whose boyfriend was killed in a plane crash, Josh the ex-baseball player and the stories go on. They do tend to make people one dimensional.

I agree with everyone's answers. I think it's a great thing that she did that, very wise. I also think there is a (small) chance they good use that in a positive light, and a much bigger chance to make that her entire storyline.

I would view it as being an "overcomer", someone who was able to deal with and get past a bad situation.
