She looks so much prettier in the photo without makeup on.

I have this lady on my facebook faves, I was so touched by her story. Didn't realize she is an Iowan.
Speaking of dresses and sewing, wonder if the fashionistas or ladies who like to dress up and love SHOES would feel bit disheartened to marry a farmer who lives in a farm. I don't really watch the Bachelor but when I do I look for the women who knows how to dress up. I didn't mean that farmers and their wives go barefoot and naked in the farm, I was just wondering about how women who loves to dress up (ala Ashlee) fix their hair (like Clare and Michelle Money) feel about it. Iowa is not exactly the fashion capital, guess wearing Jimmy Choos and Blahniks are pointless if you are just gonna stay with the hubby to feed the pigs. That would be a big blow to some of Chris' prospective suitors.
Has it ever been established whether or not Chris actually feeds his own pigs (and will expect his future wife to, sans Manolos)? I assumed he had hired workers actually performing most of the physical labor, while he ran the business aspects of the enterprise. Is he looking for a wife or an indentured servant?

If Chris's mom and sisters are any indication, I don't think he is looking for an indentured servant. They don't seem like the type that slop the hogs everyday. :cutesmile!:

I love how Chris H was begging for "farmerettes" at the beginning of each break on BIP.

I hope this means that they are keeping casting open longer because they want to attract and cast a greater number of "serious" candidates as opposed to just going with the typical selection of "wannabes" living in (or soon moving to) LA that they usually go with.

I would think that this is one reason why they have kept casting open longer, and also why they have announced Chris as TB as soon as they did (sometimes they don't announce until everyone is sequestered for filming). The combination of both of these actions is likely to flush out women who are attracted to Chris (and perhaps who are also aware of what being selected by Chris would mean for their future lives). It's not the first time they've done both of these things and it probably won't be the last. I think it may suggest a more serious effort on the producers part to give Chris viable choices amidst what will certainly include a fair share of LA wannabes and crazies.

Alternately, it may suggest some difficulty with casting in general. It makes me wonder if they've had a petite mutiny of bachelorettes who did not want to leave their jobs for 2 months for a chance at love with Farmer Chris and a life in Iowa.

They have known at least since MTN that Chris S was going to be TB. If the edit is to be believed, they had a strong inkling they were going with Chris long before the MTN.
SO--they could have focused TB casting calls in smaller metro areas such as Des Moines , Lincoln, Wichita, Tulsa, just to name a few. They could have done multiple things. Maybe they did.
I do not see this as a positive. They only want so many "normal" girls, meaning a handful. I've been told this multiple seasons. So if they don't have a handful of potentials by now... :hidingchair Perhaps Chris should have utilized match dot com or gone on the Millionaire Matchmaker.

The crazies and the aspiring "stars" aren't going to care who is cast as the lead IMO. They will come out regardless, so I doubt there was any shortage of prospects.
The only other recycled lead I recall them announcing this early was Jason, who they also felt was a very popular choice and would be well received by most viewers. And in that case also, they were hoping to attract more serious women who wanted to become an instant "stepmommy", so I imagine this is the same kind of reasoning on their part.

In Jason's case there was also an issue that he was not considered---uhh--the wow factor physically and financially.

I don't know, at the time, I recall that he was a very popular choice, with about 65% of voters choosing him over Jeremy (who was better looking and probably richer). I know Jason's stock dropped pretty quickly over the course of his season (and especially at the finale), but I don't think there was much of a public outcry when he was cast that he was lacking the "wow" factor, or that somebody else should have been chosen. And certainly not compared to when they sneaked Jake's announcement into a DWTS episode, or to the ridicule/outrage that greeted Brad's announcement about a redo, or to the silence that greeted Ben's announcement.
Now that I'm thinking about it, JPG was also announced very early, and again, I think it was because AT THE TIME, the producers thought he was a wildly popular choice among the largely female viewers (and they were anxious to boast about having a "minority" lead). Obviously opinions changed over time, but that's where things started out.
