Re: Bachelor 19 - Chris Soules - General Discussion - *Spoilers*
I found it very hard being raised in STL and then living in a town with 60K 2 hours from STL(St. Louis) even though I had already spent 4 yrs in said town at the university.
Cultural diversity alone is a killer. Winters, spring flooding and hot summers---grueling. It certainly can be done, just unlikely under the pretense of this machine.
Let's not forget, all the things people state as strengths the season past, are magically made to be the weakness the following the season with the main. This could be a tractor wreck.

No good deed goes unpunished.

Re: Bachelor 19 - Chris Soules - General Discussion - *Spoilers*
i got the impression he runs the business end of the farm from what they said in his HTD. maybe more like a business manager or executive. idk, but that was the sense i got. i'm guessing he's not out working in the fields every day.ironcat wrote:I think the fact that he is able to take the amount of time off he is taking is a pretty good indication that Chris isn't just a "farmer". That plus I don't think that most farmers who need to be up at dawn every single day to work their own land are multimillionaires. Aren't we subsidizing the small ones with our taxpayer money because they need it? I assume Chris' situation is far different. He even mentioned to Andi that he does quite a bit of traveling in his work, so I suspect he's more of a businessman/entrepreneur, but calling him a farmer is more "romantic".
Also, there are plenty of other occupations, particularly the ones that pay very well, that require long hours and working on weekends. Very few "career jobs" are 9-5, five days a week. Of course, the average Bachelor participant tends to be "underemployed", and so has a lot of free time to famewhore.

Oh, I just got home and am seriously loving this thread. I laughed myself silly until my dog gave me the "look" and then went to hide under the bed, scared.
Let me preface this by saying this is IMHO, based on my personal experience living in a neighboring State to Iowa. It is not intended to offend any Iowans or those that have friends or relatives or personally live on pig farms.
This conversation has nothing to do with Chris as a person, rather, his lifestyle. You cannot travel 365 days a year, which is what it would take for me to buy into that gig.
I don't care if Chris is rolling in money. And he doesn't have to be the one in the mud pen rolling with the pigs. Have any of you driven through Iowa on Interstate 35? It reeks to high heaven and at times you can't see a farm for miles and miles. On a hot summer day when the breeze is blowing, it makes your eyes water and you throw up in your mouth a little. I have to hold something scented over my nose, just to breathe while we are driving through. Seriously.
They can glamorize the "farmer" lifestyle all they want, but if pigs are within a 10 mile radius, it isn't pretty. Chris won't be bringing the girls to his home, so I certainly hope the one he chooses for F1 has some experience with farming, or there is no way to prepare for it. Perhaps Chris himself is a crop farmer and the family pig farm is not near his home.

I am from a small town in Mississippi as we are over an hr from the closest SB or shopping mall! I enjoyed growing up in the country and love visiting there. So that's not my issue with Chris, actually the farmer part is the only interesting thing about him to me. I just do not get a good, interesting vibe from him at all, coupled with the fact that he is completely unnatractive to me. Also, is it just me or does his eyes always look like he is doing some heavy drinking?

Perhaps they really should film the first four episodes in Iowa instead of LA. Like Emily, who said she would leave Charlotte, but couldn't really, it would at least let the girls see where they would be. Have some of the typical dates they might have IRL, before the travel to exotic locations fantasy. This might actually make a match.
Probably would never happen, but man it would certainly be interesting.

I agree, stuckinsc. I would love it if they did that for so many reasons. Interesting... And it certainly would be more "real" than this "reality" show has ever been! Unfortunately, I think the mold has been cast and the die set, for the same ole', same ole'.

100% agree ... I actually think TPTB should have their final narrowing down of 25-30 contestants happen in Iowa vs. LA. This way women can have some idea if they really want to throw their bandana in the ring or sit this one out and hope for Bachelor 2016.

He told Andi she could be a housekeeper when she asked what she could do for a job.

*** I have to get my mind off Robin William's passing because it's so upsetting to me as I love his work. He is just a beautiful soul and its upsetting how he died and how sudden it was.
So I'm gonna talk about the new bachelor. I like Chris Soules on paper. I thin he is just so manly. I always think famers do a very manly job and he is also very business savvy, as he is the only son and went and earn a college degree from University of Iowa (if Im not mistaken) to make the family business more stable and competitive. That's the big plus and his looks. He also seemed to speak his mind when he thinks another person is full of it so its something to look forward to if he is the bachelor. He is both gentle and rough. He is not a dainty, metrosexual man whose career status has to be inflated by TBTP for him to be a worthy bachelor.
I only worry about the kind of future bachelorette they will get among his 'suitors' cause I want my bachelorette to have a very interesting and challenging career. If they can cast a female astronaut, a biochemist a surgeon for bachelorette all the better. It makes me take the 'bachelorette' a little more seriously. This is why I still enjoyed Juan Pablo's season because of New Zealand and Sharleen Joynt who was a very interesting woman and very articulate. Usually career oriented women wants to live in the thick of civilization as you guys say. Not all career driven women are interesting I just do not like a bachelorette who has no career. We already had Emily Maynard.
OTOH, they could look for artists (painters, sculptors), some web developers or programmers telecommute and writers. Other than those careers I really cannot think of why a woman who would abandon a lucrative job or a city lifestyle to be in a place with a population of 500 to be with a man whom she only met for less than two months, I have to suspend disbelief otherwise. But it will be enough to make me curious and watch his season.

Exactly! And Chris S. is about to have reality slap him in the face, if he doesn't get that most women aren't going to want to live there.
