Yes, really a first in the bach, right? That's what I like most about him. Now if he can just soften up it a little, that will be perfect. He is a LOL, for sure!!

Kearney native wins 'The Bachelor'

Caleb Wolf, one of Nikki Ferrell’s patients, isn’t very fond of Juan Pablo Galavais.

Ferrell, a nurse at Children’s Mercy Hospital and Kearney native, won the recent season of the reality show “The Bachelor.” The drama didn’t end last week with the season finale, though, with television critics attacking Ferrell’s choice to stay with the former soccer player bachelor, Galavais, even though he hasn’t professed his love to her like she has to him.

Traci Wolf, Caleb’s mom, reminded the 13-year-old that what is seen on TV isn’t the full story.

Caleb said Ferrell didn’t seem any different on “The Bachelor” than when she’s tending to Caleb.

“She’s cool,” Caleb said. “All the nurses there are really fun.”

One of the first nights the show kicked off, Caleb was actually at Children’s Mercy.

“We were able to watch it with her, so that was kind of neat,” Traci said.

While the show was filming, Ferrell wasn’t at Children’s Mercy. She returned to work, where patients like Caleb saw her, while the show was on the air. Caleb and Traci said Ferrell was very careful not to give away any spoilers to the show, and they never even knew from small hints that the nurse and Galavais were together.

“She was there up until about recently when she had to do the live airing,” Traci said, referring to the show’s season finale earlier this month.

Despite Caleb’s efforts, Ferrell was steadfast about keeping her relationship a secret.

“Just tell me so I don’t have to watch this thing until March,” Caleb would say to her.

Caleb hoped that Ferrell would win as the show progressed, but now, not so much.

“Let’s just say, I’m not a huge fan of Juan Pablo,” Caleb said. “It just seems like he could treat her a little nicer.”

Traci said that her impression of Ferrell was that she’s smart, strong and independent, and that came across on the show, but the last episode was awkward to watch.

“There’s probably a lot behind the scenes that we jut don’t know,” Traci said. “So it’s hard to look at just what’s on TV.”

When Ferrell first introduced herself to Galavais, she was wearing a stethoscope and let Galavais listen to the sound of her beating heart.

“It was clever, but maybe a little cheesy,” Caleb said.

Traci and Caleb haven’t seen Ferrell since the last episode, in which Ferrell and Galavais were interviewed about their current relationship. While the show was airing, Traci said Ferrell was limited on who she could speak with about “The Bachelor” and in what capacity.

“We really did want her to win,” Traci said. “She’s just an awesome girl. She’s a great nurse. She takes great care of her patients, but she’s playful with them.”
