If it had been Clare who went horseback riding they would have used the picture of her too don't you think? Just an opportunity to drum up a little business. I would guess this company doesn't know any more than the rest of us.

Actually at least what I could see on his feed without signing up for twitter (I refuse) was the he just was talking about the "R" word in his country.

We may not like it here in USA, but in different countries, different things are acceptable.

I had a Canadian tell a classroom full of students that Florida is the penis of the USA. I personally found that offensive, since I was born and raised in Florida, but was told it was funny and part of being a Canadian.

I also work with a lot of men from India, who actually refuse to listen to any idea I have as being equal because I am a woman. It is part of their culture and I have to hold it in and adjust to allow for an okay work environment.

So even in the good old USA, people from other countries are allowed to keep their culture and beliefs.

We are not the supreme race and our country was settled by a melting pot of cultures and mores .. I would expect Americans to be understanding and a lot more accepting of our differences and not demand that a person of different beliefs and cultural differences and language to be the perfect American

I don't think he knows at all about the whole R word issue. I come from a family of immigrants, so I'm very well aware of the language issues that come to play. Remember his "little package" comment?

What I do think he needs to work on is taking the criticism and responding sensitively. I suppose he's just so done at this point, though....

I agree with you on both counts. I don't think he did himself any favors with the "relax"hashtag but, unfortunately for him, I think that the use of such a word is his analogous to his "it's okay" and I think is his attempt to calm/diffuse any level of upset/potential conflict.

And it can't be easy being him right now as his every word and mis-step is under a microscope - for some of it I think he has culpability and much of it I think is a function of his not playing the game the way he was supposed to. As far as the former, I think what causes trouble for him relates to what appears be two of his primary needs - honesty and avoidance of conflict. Those two don't always meld well together. Indeed, I think they have often produced for him the very thing he is trying to avoid.

Got it. It's not a proper word to use, however, I don't think him simply using that use makes him a terrible person. In what context did he use that word?

Yes, I do and I think it was funny. But in there, lies the rub. JP can't "educate" himself in using the proper words until he misuses them and someone calls him on it. In normal circumstances, it wouldn't be a big deal, but unfortunately for him, he's front and center now, and some people are just waiting to dump on him. It's a hard lesson to learn, and if he doesn't have a thick skin now, he will soon enough.

He didn't use it - he re-tweeted a passage that contained it - his mom tweeted later that in Venezuela the word means less educated which fits the context in which the word was used in the passage. After he re-tweeted it, JuanPa got a lot of backlash and he tweeted:

In Venezuela the R word is USED commonly and by NO means is to OFFEND anyone... #Relax #DifferentCulture #Respect

Tweeters didn't appear to take kindly to it
