I want to watch a guy who you can romanticize about, and it's become more of an Average Joe kinda show..... blech.....

Re: Sean & Catherine - The Bachelor 17 - Thread #2
I started watching the show because I was interested in what would come out of the likes of the same guy who produced the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire. Both reminded me of something you would would find in a Mad Magazine or see on screen now as an SNL skit or movie spoof.
I was not disappointed for the most part.
2 words: Hamburger Theory
2 words: Stockholm Syndrome
2 words: Psych testing
One word: Manipulation
It's formulaic and relies more and more on scripting.
People can and do fall in love under many ridiculous conditions, it could happen here, too. Just as many production people fall in love with each other while helping to produce the process as going through the process.

The only unrecycled Bachelors that I liked were Andrew Firestone & Charlie O'Connell but not because I found them attractive. Some of the worst duds weren't previously on the show - Lorenzo, Jesse, Travis, Brad (liked him slightly better on 2nd show). I can't say there's ever been a male lead that I found attractive & don't watch the Bachelor for the guy but the for the Bachelorettes. I often like the Bachelorette but watch because of the guys.
Going into the show I wasn't excited it was Sean but ended up liking him a lot. I think he was one of the better Bachelors and one of the few who picked someone I really liked.
I don't really care if the show is manipulated and cheezy. I enjoy it while I'm watching, like talking about it, and move onto the next show when it starts. If a couple I like lasts then it's a bonus.

If Shay didn't sign Sean for the Bachelorette I wonder what his life will be like now.

He'd be married to a girl more like Shay IMO. I think Sean is a good catch in that he will be a good father and husband and the girl can count on him forever. That alone gives him bonus points. A girl could do a whole lot worse and having security and a happy family is more important than a lot of money. His standard of living with be the same as his parents. A nice, but not lavish house and a happy life with a lot of friends and family. I don't lump him in with Ben, Jake and many of the others. I thought Ready for Love had some good bachelors. Ernesto in particular really caught my eye. Too bad it was cancelled. I do agree that the quality of the bachelors has gone way down with recycling. I don't think love at first sight is actual love, but more infatuation, so I have no need to see them spot "the one" on the first night. However the indecision at the end is disturbing. I am on the fence about the current relationship working out. Sometimes I think Cat is a different sort of person from Sean and other times I think she seems quite happy to leave her old life behind, so we'll see.

“Definitely The Bachelor for two reasons: one, it propelled me into the opportunity to be on Dancing With The Stars and secondly, I met the love of my life, Catherine, and we couldn’t be more happier. All of this fame and attention I’m now getting will eventually fade away but Catherine and I will be together for the rest of our lives after we’re married."
Wow is all I can say. : (
Except that if the order that we list things in answer to questions is the true indication of the order that we value them, my hubbie of 27 years is sometimes valued below the laundry, the kids, the garden, shopping.... And I'm still totally in love with him!

I still haven't heard how the un-recycled guys are any better than the re-cycled ones.

I think Travis Stork and Andrew Firestone were good. The guys on Ready for Love were all successful. You can get a more together/successful guy for the lead than you can to join the show as one of the bachelors for the bachelorettes. IMO Sean was the best recycle and Bob Guiney the worst. But, the girls don't generally have stellar educations or careers so maybe average Joe is a better fit anyhow.

The bolded is exactly why recycling the leads from previous contestants doesn't work for me. No quality doctor or lawyer or entertainer or sports star etc.... is ever going to apply to be 1 of 25 guys competing for some strange girl. They might apply to be the lead... but not a contestant. It's only guys that are currently unemployed or looking for television exposure to advertise themselves or their business. If Ben was a successful vintner, no way would he have applied as a contestant. Sean is basically unemployed... so what's he got to offer Cat when DWTS is over?

Charlie had nothing going for him (they used his brother to get people to know who the heck he was). Lorenzo used the show to promote his dog care products & pretended that he's actually royalty. Aaron seemed like a typical re-cycle to me. Travis used the show to pay for medical school. Jesse...I don't get why Jesse did it. Byron's season sucked until Mary got there. Matt Grant...his season totally sucked and he seemed like a typical re-cycle too...(no job).
I just don't see the big deal over having a new person over a re-cycle.

But the girls that the show draws are no better as far as success and brain power. Only people without big careers have time for this show. I knew a guy that went to Yale and was handsome, smart, rich, successful.... the perfect bachelor. No way is he interested in the vast majority of these contestants. What will Sean offer Cat after? The same thing he offers her now. Money isn't everything and he's an ambitious guy that will scramble to make a comfortable life for his family. She doesn't seem like the type that would marry for money anyhow. I agree with you when you question why she is with him, because they don't seem like a perfect match to me, but not because he is not wealthy enough.

Did we watch the same season. Because they were the only one that match in that season.
