Exactly! You're not meant to take anything that he says too seriously, or even seriously at all for that matter.

It doesn't look like ratings will be good for any reality shows. Ratings for DWTS, etc have gone way down.

PRESS RELEASE - ENTERTAINMENT - THE BACHELORETTE -- May 15th (Desiree Hartsock) press call transcript revision #1

TRANSCRIPT FROM THE MAY 15 "THE BACHELORETTE" TELECONFERENCE WITH DESIREE HARTSOCK

"The Bachelorette" premieres MONDAY, MAY 27 (8:00 p.m. - 10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Photography is available at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] or at (818) 460-6611.

Operator: Welcome to ABC's ""The Bachelorette" call with Cathy Rehl as the leader. This call is being recorded. By staying on this call, you are confirming that you consent to this recording. If you do not wish to be recorded, please disconnect from the call at this time.

Thank you. Ms. Rehl, you may begin your call.

Cathy Rehl: Hi everybody, and welcome to the first call of the season. We are happy to be back and happy because we have a really, really great addition to ""The Bachelorette" this time. And again, we premiere this time on Memorial Day Monday, May 27th.

One thing I do want to remind you of, and that is next week we have a really spectacular special for everybody, that I think everybody has been waiting for, which is our funniest moment, ""The Bachelor"'s Funniest Moments." That's on Tuesday the 21st, 8:00 to 9:00 Eastern. And there's some of those "Oh my God, I forgot they did that" moments; so that will be a good one.

Again, I will remind you that it's one question and a follow up. And with that, we can start the questions.

Operator: Ladies and gentlemen if you would like to ask a question, please press star then the number one on your telephone keypads.

Your first question comes from Andrea Reiher from Zap2it.

Andrea Reiher: Hi Desiree.

Desiree Hartsock: Hi.

Andrea Reiher: I really enjoyed the last preview part of the premiere and I really enjoyed watching your first episode.

Desiree Hartsock: Oh good.

Andrea Reiher: My question is about the fantasy suite guy; that was uncomfortable to say the least. How was that for you?

Desiree Hartsock: It was very uncomfortable but I kind of took it like I would in my day-to-day life and, you know, kind of disregarded his behavior and didn't stand for it.

Andrea Reiher: And what was the biggest surprise for you on the first night with the guys?

Desiree Hartsock: Biggest surprise, I was surprised by how many amazing men there were. And good looking.

Andrea Reiher: All right. Thank you so much.

Desiree Hartsock: Oh, you're welcome.

Operator: Your next question comes from Beth Kwiatkowski from Reality TV World.

Beth Kwiatkowski: Hi Desiree, how are you doing?

Desiree Hartsock: Hi, I'm good. How are you?

Beth Kwiatkowski: Great. So my first kind of obvious question is, did you end up finding love on "The Bachelorette"ette and could you tell us if you're happily engaged?

Desiree Hartsock: You know, this, the journey was incredibly emotional and it was really surprising throughout. So, unfortunately I can't comment on that at this time.

Beth Kwiatkowski: OK. Well, could you at least tell us, I guess, if you're, you know, happy with your journey overall and kind of how things went your second time around on a reality dating show? Like, are you glad you ended up deciding to star on the show or was it maybe not the great experience you had built it up to be?

Desiree Hartsock: No, I'm glad that I did decide to do the show and I am, you know, I was satisfied through my, with my decision throughout. I followed and trusted my heart the best I could, so.

Beth Kwiatkowski: OK ...

Desiree Hartsock: I feel I've been true to myself throughout.

Beth Kwiatkowski: OK, thank you.

Desiree Hartsock: You're welcome.

Operator: Your next question comes from Shari Von Holten from Have U Heard.

Shari Von Holten: Hi Desiree.

Desiree Hartsock: Hi.

Shari Von Holten: Last season when you were on "The Bachelor", your brother proved to be quite the challenge during back hometown visit. Good to know if you met any of the men this season and if so, how did it go?

Desiree Hartsock: My brother, coming on to "The Bachelorette"ette, he actually was very supportive.

Shari Von Holten: OK.

Desiree Hartsock: And so, he will meet the men.

Shari Von Holten: OK, thank you.

Desiree Hartsock: You're welcome.

Operator: Your next question comes from Carrie Bell from People magazine.

Carrie Bell: Hey Desiree, how are you?

Desiree Hartsock: Good, how are you?

Carrie Bell: I'm doing well. I, my, I guess my question was, is what you feel like you learned, if anything, from being one of the, you know, contenders, I guess for lack of a better term, competing for Sean and if you learned anything from Sean specifically? Like if you took any of his strategies or, you know, because Sean was very specific about the way he was, he went about things and like letting people go early if he didn't, if he knew there was nothing. You know those sorts of things ...

Desiree Hartsock: Yes ...

Carrie Bell: If you learned anything from him or did you learn anything from your experience that you took into being the person making the decision.

Desiree Hartsock: Yes. You know, I went from Sean like, I took each and every day, you know, separately and really focused on each and every relationship. And I believe Sean was really good at that. From my experience being on "The Bachelor", I was able to put myself in the guys' shoes to really understand what they were feeling. I think I did that pretty well.

Carrie Bell: You, you know, having gone through it, you know, and obviously, you know, we talk to you, you know, when you were like "girl from Sean's season" and you were really upset I mean and you seemed really, you know, genuinely a little bit heartbroken. Do you feel like you were ready to jump into this when it happened and do you feel like you were in a, did you feel like you believed in the process because of how you felt having gone through the process?

Desiree Hartsock: Oh definitely. I mean I chose to do this show because the feelings that do develop are very real. And I, you know, I was upset when Sean sent me home but that just showed that, you know, the emotions are real and you really can fall for someone. But I mean before going on this show I had already been past that and I knew that Sean and I aren't meant to be together. And I figured why not give "The Bachelorette"ette a chance.

Cathy Rehl: OK.

Carrie Bell: Well, you know, and it makes a difference when you're in the driver's seat I think.

Desiree Hartsock: Yes, it does.

Carrie Bell: All right, thanks.

Desiree Hartsock: You're welcome.

Operator: Your next question comes from Lindsey DiMattina from Hollywood.com.

Lindsey DiMattina: Hi Desiree, my first question is, did you cry at all this season and, if so, could you tell us about the first time you cried this season what happened?

Cathy Rehl: If you cried. It depends if that reveals anything. I don't know ...

Desiree Hartsock: Yes, I ...

Cathy Rehl: If you should talk about that.

Desiree Hartsock: Yes, I will, I ...

Lindsey DiMattina: Maybe you could describe how your, maybe you could describe how you planned emotionally to prepare for the harder scenes that would come.

Desiree Hartsock: I mean yes, there's going to be tears. But I really wanted to go on this show with all of my emotions being shown so that every, you know, so that viewers can really see where I'm coming from.

Lindsey DiMattina: OK. And was there, you know, did your family give any tips on how to prepare for the next season? Like how to be emotionally prepared for next season? Maybe your brother?

Desiree Hartsock: I guess my family really, you know, just gave me the advice to stay true to who I am and to really trust my heart and be at peace with the decisions I was making.

Lindsey DiMattina: OK. Thank you.

Desiree Hartsock: You're welcome.

Operator: Your next question comes from Caryn Robbins from BroadwayWorld TV.

Caryn Robbins: Hi, how are you?

Desiree Hartsock: Good.

Caryn Robbins: I was wondering when you were first approached about becoming the next Bachelorette, did you jump at the opportunity or did it take a lot of soul searching before you agreed to do it?

Desiree Hartsock: I did have to take time on my own to think about it because it is very emotional and it's a personal journey. So I need to make sure I wanted to share that with the world.

Caryn Robbins: Yes. OK, great. Looking forward to the season.

Desiree Hartsock: Oh, thank you.

Operator: Your next question comes from Catriona Wightman from Digital Spy.

Catriona Wightman: Hi Desiree.

Desiree Hartsock: Hi.

Catriona Wightman: So obviously in your season of "The Bachelor", there was a lot of drama with Tierra. Is there any drama with the men this season that you knew about?

Desiree Hartsock: You know, there are a lot of strong, yet emotional men this season. So they do stand up for themselves and that does create a lot of drama.

Catriona Wightman: OK. And were there any qualities that you were particularly looking for in a man?

Desiree Hartsock: Yes, I mean, I was looking for someone who's going to be spontaneous and adventurous while still being very supportive and caring. And, you know, someone who ultimately can understand me and be my best friend.

Catriona Wightman: OK, brilliant. Thank you so much.

Desiree Hartsock: You're welcome.

Operator: Your next question comes from Frank Lovece from Newsday.

Frank Lovece: Hi Desiree, how are you?

Desiree Hartsock: Good, how are you?

Frank Lovece: Good. What was it like getting back to normal life after living this fantasy life for a few weeks and has it affected your career as a bridal stylist?

Desiree Hartsock: You know, I've actually been able to adapt back into my life pretty easily. Just staying busy. And I guess, it hasn't affected, I mean I'm not, I haven't gone back to work as a bridal stylist, but I would love to pursue my passion in design.

Frank Lovece: So what are you doing for a living right now?

Desiree Hartsock: Well, I just got back recently. So I'm just getting back to my life and then I do want to work on my design.

Frank Lovece: Great, thanks.

Desiree Hartsock: You're welcome.

Operator: Your next question comes from Kara Spak from Chicago Sun Times.

Kara Spak: Hi, Desiree. I had a follow-up question about your brother, I think he was kind of one of the more intriguing characters on last season "The Bachelor". Can you kind of explain his change of heart from going to calling "The Bachelor" a playboy, I don't know if that was Sean-specific or, I kind of took it as like, just sort of a conceit of the show he didn't agree with, to him coming ...

Desiree Hartsock: No, no ...

Kara Spak: On the show in your season?

Desiree Hartsock: Yes, actually that was a very Sean-specific ...

Kara Spak: Oh, OK.

Desiree Hartsock: Yes, it was a very Sean-specific conversation. And it was because he saw that Sean, you know, wasn't right for me. But he is very supportive of me being able to choose and really decide what's right for me.

Kara Spak: Are we going to see a lot of him? I mean I think people really like, you know, for good or for bad, people found him an intriguing part of the show.

Desiree Hartsock: Yes, I mean he will, he will be on the show.

Operator: Your next question comes from Jennifer Peros from U.S. Weekly.

Jennifer Peros: Hey Desiree, thanks so much for chatting with us today.

Desiree Hartsock: Of course.

Jennifer Peros: So we see in the promo, you know, some standouts from night one. I mean obviously all the names have been released. Can you just maybe name a couple guys who right away you're like, oh OK, he's cool? And then we see that you have a knight in shining armor that shows up. I mean anyone else that stood out?

Desiree Hartsock: You know, I think you're really going to have to watch to ...

Jennifer Peros: Yes.

Desiree Hartsock: See all the different characters. Because there are a lot of unique entrances and also a lot of unique conversation.

Jennifer Peros: Cool. And then I mean, since you are a bridal stylist and someone who, you know, makes her living off of weddings, if you do end up with someone by the end of the season, and it does lead to marriage, have you thought about, you know, whether you would do a TV wedding or not?

Desiree Hartsock: You know, if I do end up with someone and when that time comes, I would really have to think about it because I would want my wedding to be small and intimate.

Jennifer Peros: So you don't think you would do a televised wedding?

Desiree Hartsock: I don't know. That would have to, I would have to think about it when that time comes, you know, comes.

Jennifer Peros: I see. Well, good luck. Thank you.

Desiree Hartsock: Thank you.

Operator: Your next question comes from Ann Oldenburg from USA Today.

Ann Oldenburg: Hi, how are you?

Desiree Hartsock: Good.

Ann Oldenburg: So, how was the experience overall?

Desiree Hartsock: You know, overall the experience was definitely, you know, an emotional journey. And there's a lot of surprises and, you know, I mean overall I think it's a journey of love. And love isn't always going to be happy because there's going to be ups and downs but, ultimately you get through it all.

Ann Oldenburg: Wow. You do not sound happy at all. Is that fair to say?

Desiree Hartsock: No.

Ann Oldenburg: OK.

Desiree Hartsock: I'm a naturally happy person.

Ann Oldenburg: OK. But as far as the season goes, it's ups and downs?

Desiree Hartsock: Yes. I mean that's, that comes with, you know, the relationship and that comes with, you know, guiding and gauging where the relationship should go.

Ann Oldenburg: But you can't say that you ended up happy?

Desiree Hartsock: I can't say at this time.

Ann Oldenburg: OK. And one other question is, in press materials they were saying there is some of the most intimate and sensual overnight dates we'll ever see. Can you talk a little bit about that, is that true or is that ...?

Desiree Hartsock: I have no idea why those are the words used. Because I actually just went on the dates and to be a time to talk away from the cameras since that's such a vital time to really see how someone's going to be in their day-to-day life. So I'm not sure exactly why. Maybe just 'cause location.

Ann Oldenburg: Maybe that's it. OK. (inaudible) Looking forward to it.

Desiree Hartsock: Thank you.

Ann Oldenburg: Thank you.

Operator: You have a follow-up question from Kaitlyn Monteiro from OK Magazine.

Kaitlyn Monteiro: Hi Des, how are you?

Desiree Hartsock: Good.

Kaitlyn Monteiro: So we're wondering what did you do diet and fitness wise to prepare to be on "The Bachelorette"ette or on TV?

Desiree Hartsock: Well, I naturally eat a pretty healthy diet. So that works for me. But that did, you know, I did have a trainer prior just for a couple weeks prior to the show; to kind of help get me fit.

Kaitlyn Monteiro: And how did you stay in shape during the show with all those (romantic) dinners?

Desiree Hartsock: I don't know if I did. I think it's just staying busy and being able to do some here and there in the hotel.

Kaitlyn Monteiro: And so you mentioned the trainer, sorry, a quick follow-up. What did you guys need help about your routine with a trainer before you started?

Desiree Hartsock: With the trainer, it was very diverse. Mainly just weights and circuits I guess you could say. So it was more along those lines.

Kaitlyn Monteiro: All right. Thank you so much.

Desiree Hartsock: You're welcome.

Operator: And you have a follow-up from Beth Kwiatkowski from Reality TV World.

Beth Kwiatkowski: Hi, Desiree.

Desiree Hartsock: Hi.

Beth Kwiatkowski: So at the beginning of the show, what factors such as maybe the distance where you live or the men's careers or their past relationship history, were you focused on when trying to number down your search and how did those factors become increasingly more or less important to you as the show progressed? Like, after really getting to know the guys.

Desiree Hartsock: Yes, I think you do have to ask really tough questions. And I think a key part is really seeing what they were like in past relationships and really finding out if they're ready to be here and, you know, continuing, if it's going to be a serious relationship, if they're going to be ready for that. So, in the beginning it's really gauging, see who's going to, you know, be there for the right reasons. And as it continued I think that's where location and job, it really falls into line because if you can see a future, you know, with that person.

Beth Kwiatkowski: OK. And based on what's been shown and discussed in your season so far, some of the men on your season seem really impressive. How do you feel in hindsight that Sean compared to these guys? Do any of them have similar qualities or are they very different from him?

Desiree Hartsock: I actually, I mean, I would say you can't really compare. A lot of them in this season are very unique and really amazing men. They have different qualities than what Sean had. I think a lot of them are very spontaneous and very creative.

Beth Kwiatkowski: OK, great. Thanks Des.

Desiree Hartsock: You're welcome.

Operator: You have a follow-up from Catriona Wightman from Digital Spy.

Catriona Wightman: Hi again. I was just wondering if any former Bachelorettes reached out to you once you got the role?

Desiree Hartsock: You know, not necessarily. I haven't really spoken to any one of them; just some support from Ali via Twitter.

Catriona Wightman: Oh, that's sweet.

Desiree Hartsock: Yes.

Catriona Wightman: And that first night where you meet all the men must be really overwhelming. Was there ever a moment when you thought, what have I got myself into?

Desiree Hartsock: No, I was like happy. I'm all, look what I got into. No, it is very overwhelming but since I had been in their shoes I knew that they were more nervous than I was. So I kind of empathized with them.

Catriona Wightman: Great. Thank you.

Operator: Your next question is from Kara Spak from Chicago Sun Times.

Kara Spak: Hi, Desiree. Are you familiar with this blogger "Possessionista"; she does a lot of fashion blogging about?

Desiree Hartsock: Oh, yes.

Kara Spak: Yes, and what are you, do you have any thoughts on her or the blog? Some of "The Bachelorette"ettes really like it and some of them, I guess think she's a little catty.

Desiree Hartsock: Well, I, yes, I don't really, I don't really have any opinion.

Kara Spak: Do you read it?

Desiree Hartsock: Not necessarily.

Kara Spak: OK.

Desiree Hartsock: I try to stay away from blogs.

Kara Spak: But you know what it is?

Desiree Hartsock: Yes, I do.

Kara Spak: OK. All right. Thanks a lot.

Desiree Hartsock: You're welcome.

Operator: Your next question is from Lindsey DiMattina from Hollywood.com.

Lindsey DiMattina: Oh, hi again. You kind of talked about this a little bit earlier, but what was the one hardest question you had for the guys going into the season?

Desiree Hartsock: Hardest questions. You know, I was straightforward. I would ask them, you know, are you ready for marriage; are you ready for a family; do you want kids; where do you see your future? And that's in order for me to really see if my future lines up with them.

Lindsey DiMattina: OK. So was there a specific one of those that was the most important to you?

Desiree Hartsock: Well, it wasn't necessarily a specific. I guess, yes, it was just a mixture of everything.

Lindsey DiMattina: OK. That makes sense. And what were you most worried about going into the season?

Desiree Hartsock: Most worried. I don't know if I really had any worries. Yes.

Lindsey DiMattina: I don't know, possibly maybe not falling in love; were you worried about that?

Desiree Hartsock: You know, I didn't want to put any pressure on it or have any expectations. So I wasn't necessarily worried, but I guess I would be with that; I was worried that maybe this wouldn't work for me.

Lindsey DiMattina: OK.

Desiree Hartsock: I think though I'm still very hopeful that it would.

Lindsey DiMattina: OK. Thank you.

Desiree Hartsock: You're welcome.

Operator: You have a follow up from Jennifer Peros from U.S. Weekly.

Jennifer Peros: Hi again. Wanted to see, of who, which former Bachelorette would you most compare yourself to?

Desiree Hartsock: I don't personally know any of them.

Jennifer Peros: OK.

Desiree Hartsock: And but I would say Ali's free spirit is very similar to my own.

Jennifer Peros: Definitely. Well, thank you so much. Again, and she ...

Desiree Hartsock: You're welcome.

Jennifer Peros: Besides Twitter, has she reached out to you with any advice or ...

Desiree Hartsock: No, just via Twitter.

Jennifer Peros: Great. Thank you.

Desiree Hartsock: You're welcome.

Operator: Your next question is from Kaitlyn Monteiro from OK Magazine.

Kaitlyn Monteiro: Hi again. So with the summer approaching, we were wondering what are some of your go to diet tips and how do they help?

Desiree Hartsock: You know, on the diet tip, I would say never let yourself go hungry because you need to keep your metabolism going and get outside. Even just a walk in the morning before work, kind of up, you know, jump starts your metabolism.

Kaitlyn Monteiro: Actually speaking of fitness, what are some of your top fitness tips and how do they help?

Desiree Hartsock: Fitness tip. Like with working out or food?

Kaitlyn Monteiro: Yes.

Desiree Hartsock: Well, let's see. Honestly, just staying active. No matter what it is. Like I hike and I try to just even take a walk whenever I can.

Kaitlyn Monteiro: What would be some of your favorite activities to do outside?

Desiree Hartsock: I love to hike. Sometimes I try to do beach volleyball. I love to bike. So anything that I can just get moving and, I don't know, I feel like it clears my mind too and it's a good destresser.

Kaitlyn Monteiro: Absolutely. Thank you so much.

Desiree Hartsock: You're welcome.

Operator: You have a follow-up from Frank Lovece from Newsday.

Frank Lovece: Hi, Ali. I was just, Ali, I'm sorry. I was wondering, the clothes you wear on the show, are these your own clothes, your own dresses or is there a wardrobe person and stylist?

Desiree Hartsock: There is a stylist. But the mixture of, you know, those and my own clothes. So it's still very much my own personal style.

Frank Lovece: OK. Did you watch, did you do any, I know you design fashion, you want to design fashion, did you design anything for the show and say hey maybe you guys could put this together?

Desiree Hartsock: You know, we did work together and I was able to design a dress, one of the rose ceremony dresses.

Frank Lovece: OK, great.

Desiree Hartsock: Yes.

Frank Lovece: Which one?

Desiree Hartsock: It will be ...

Cathy Rehl: I think it was the third?

Desiree Hartsock: The third?

Male: Yes.

Desiree Hartsock: The third.

Cathy Rehl: The third episode.

Desiree Hartsock: Third episode.

Frank Lovece: Great, we'll look for it.

Desiree Hartsock: Oh, thanks.

Operator: Your next question is from Beth Kwiatkowski from Reality TV World.

Beth Kwiatkowski: Hey Des. Would you be willing to move wherever the love of your life might live or, are you hoping he'd move to Los Angeles? I guess like what changes were you willing to make in your life following the show had you ended up in a serious relationship?

Desiree Hartsock: You know, regardless of whether it's from the show or in my day-to-day life, I really take like love as my priority. So I don't have roots anywhere and I really do feel like home is where the heart is. So I would definitely be willing to move wherever the love of my life is.

Beth Kwiatkowski: OK. And during your time on "The Bachelor" with Sean, there were a couple times you kind of got closed off and sort of shut yourself down when you weren't sure if Sean was reciprocating some of the strong feelings you had for him. How would you say that's different from your behavior on "The Bachelorette"ette? Like did you really try to put yourself out there at all times, and if so, how challenging was that for you?

Desiree Hartsock: Yes, no, I, that was very circumstantial because I wasn't feeling it back from Sean. But I was, during this entire journey, I was really able to honestly put my whole heart out there and just let it happen, whatever happens. It wasn't too challenging. I feel like that was very circumstantial.

Beth Kwiatkowski: OK, thanks Des.

Desiree Hartsock: You're welcome.

Operator: And I show no further questions at this time.

Cathy Rehl: Well, thanks everybody. I hope everybody got what they needed. There are photos up of our premiere and gallery shots. And if you need anything else, if you have a question, call me at 212-456-6749 or e-mail me at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. And Ms. Messinger is available on the West coast at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

So thanks and we will be back with more conference calls during the season. I can't tell you when the next one will be but we will alert you when that happens. And again, remember about "The Bachelor"'s Funniest Moments next Tuesday, May 21st and, of course, our premiere on May 27th. Thanks everybody.

Operator: Ladies and gentlemen, this does conclude today's conference. Thank you for participating. You may now disconnect.

Will try to scan this, although their web site will have something up shortly... it isn't up yet.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY now has the Meet & Greet photo and "ones to watch"... Chris Harrison singles out Juan Pablo, Michael G., Ben, Zak W., Brian and James ("Cuban Casanova").

In the photo, everybody in the front row is a dumpee (unlike past Bachelorette seasons with F1 up front)... Diogo, Larry and Bad Boy James included. Both Za(c)ks and Drew are prominently placed in the second row like many past F2s, but curiously Brooks and Chris are way in the back row... VERY different than past Bachelorete line-ups.

Soo the guys w/beef and drama are the ones to watch with an exception of free spirit Zak? And Juan Pa? scratch Hmm, ok.

And I'm surprised w/the placement, however, these guys are tall so the shortest of the bunch will probably be in front? No idea. But I don't think the producers could Des w/any of those guys in front though.. at least I don't think they could have.

Wow, thanks JBFan That is really strange! No mention of even Drew by Chris? That's really interesting. What did he say about Zak?

Here we go... let you folks blow it up to read better. I didn't scan it very well, unfortunately.

Jonathan looks like he was photoshopped like drunk Tim was in Ashley's season... hard to determine.

I can't believe Zak took the group pic shirtless! rotfl

Thanks so much JBF! So strange that none of the top guys are mentioned other than Zak. Are we sure that the show is looking for Drew or Chris as the next Bachelor?

Yeah, he's obviously photoshopped in there!

Interesting that Chris mentions Juanpa as the one with whom she has 'chemistry' with.
