Does this ep sound as romantic to any of you as it does to me?
Exactly!! Thats what I am saying. "Another bachelorette receives a terrifying individual date."
Seriously. Is Sean's idea of fun and romance is scaring the heck out of your date, and imploring them into doing frightening things they otherwise would not normally do, then to me, this makes him a bit of a weirdo. Whats that stuff called that people get in to?? Its all about giving pain or something like that, only in a sexual way?? S and M?? Maybe Sean is a total S and M kind of guy... LOL. Maybe thats why he us still single.. ????

I've done the polar bear plunge almost every year in Lake Michigan on New Years Day. And yes I'm in a swimsuit. It's fun to run in then run back out. Never once have I even seen someone need medical attention after it happens.
As for the dates this season, I've loved almost every one of them. Take me hiking or do something extreme every day of the week. Just having a simple picnic is lame.
I'm really looking forward to the two 1-on-1 dates this episode. His date with Des sounds like something I woul do. And Catherine's is super fun with the playing in the snow but turns romantic with the ice castle. I would consider that the best date of the season so far.

Yes, I agree.. The date with Catherine playing in the snow and then doing the ice castle thing sounds pretty darn cool. I'd be all for sledding, rolling down a snowy hill, or having a snowball fight. The rest of it, not so much, and definitely not for the average girly girl beauty queens that typically go on this show.

The editing is so bad, the lighting in many scenes is atrocious, many of these dates are either asinine or total repeats and the derisive commentary on Twitter by the producers about the show and contestants has been surprising. I am guessing that Sean is so easy going and nice that they opted to create their own chaos.
I am seeing a lot of commentary where people like Sean and the ladies but aren't enjoying the season or are bored with it. It appears TPTB really like Sean a lot but didn't really put much effort into the planning and production of the show. Based on their own comments, it is almost like they view their own work product as a joke of sorts.
I have seen similar commentary. However, the ratings seem to belie the idea that viewers are growing old of the season given that last episode had the best ratings so far this season. I personally think the type of dates have not changed significantly. For instance, I can't think of a season where there weren't high adrenaline dates - some sort of wall climbing, rappelling, etc. Even Emily whom I think would admit herself that she is not very athletic climbed that building with Chris.
Further, Sean has made it plain that he wants a best friend in his spouse which includes, of course, having lots of common interests. So it makes sense to me that he would want outdoorsy and/or active activities in order to determine the goodness of fit for him. Additionally, it makes sense to me that he would want the kind of date he had with Selma (as opposed to giving her the Pretty Woman date; from his perspective I don't think he would have learned anything new about her - he already knew she was beautiful and that he was very attracted to her). I believe in Sean's sincerity in wanting to find a spouse. So I think his process throughout the season thus far and one I expect will continue was to get to know each woman at as many levels as possible (beyond the initial level of attraction) in order to make a decision that will stick. And based on his most recent blog and what he said about Catherine, it appears so far so good.

I haven't followed production's commentary this season except for those posted on the board. The show seems to love Sean, and they are dragging Tierra through the mud. It makes me wonder if she gave production hell so this edit is payback. Even the former contestants say rather unkind things about her. I feel badly for her.
I also have read that people find the season boring. For me, it's refreshing, and I think it will get more interesting as we get to epi 6 through 8. Interestingly though, Sean's gained viewers so the average watcher likes him.

Production plans the dates with input from the lead based on his interests. Sean doesn't plan the dates since they're brainstormed by the team months in advance. The nature of these dates reflects Sean's high energy and athleticism. He isn't a sedentary guy and most likely won't last with a woman who doesn't share that passion to some degree. I find this season's dates much more normal than some of the dates in previous seasons. The Joshua Tree date is right up my alley, and the relaxed dinner that night was a good way to end it. I imagine that other girls in Sean's group envied that date.
Sean said night one that he wants to "love and protect" his woman; he wants to be her rock. What better way to let him live into that than present challenging dates in which Sean becomes that man for the woman!
Who knows the reason that marketing is using these superlative adjectives in their press releases. Makes it seem more exciting? We know they exaggerate everything.

Looks like at least one of the girls refuses to take the plunge - Selma. Was looking at Millsy's twitter and found the following:

I'm one of the people that's totally bored with the season. Sean isn't the most exciting guy....zzzzz... and it's just more of the same old drama crap that we've seen season after season. MF seems to think that we want to see the girls fighting and crying blah blah blah.....news flash MF .... that's the opposite of what we want to watch. Believe it or not - we still want to see a romance at the end of all this bs, and would like to see how the relationship blossoms over time.
Instead of giving the audience a dating show, MF is trying to combine The Bach, Survivor and Amazing Race
Next years Bachelor intro by CH.....
"In the most exotic locations in the world, if you can survive and not fall off a building/mountain/bridge, and if you don't get eaten by a shark or lions, die of hypothermia from icy waters and if another contestant doesn't bitch-slap you to death....if you can survive the Hunger Games and Roller Derby's and get the final rose, you'll win the guy, and a trip for 2 to Hawaii by Travelocity...... in the most DRAMATIC season of the Bachelor .....everrrrrr"

I think when the girls were told to pack a swimsuit for the day, the thought they'd be headed to a hot tub or hot springs or something. Instead it was the plunge. And the girl we know who does a plunge (at least did this New Year's, Catherine) isn't even on the date.
It might be good for Sean that some of the girls start to self-eliminate....he's very early coming to a point when it's hard to "break up".

I've been wondering - assuming all spoilers are correct, does this season have a higher than normal # of contestants self-eliminating?
Do you think it's because of all the adrenaline dates? Like Sarah - every single one of her dates will have been an adrenaline date, right?
Also, regarding the ratings - don't they normally go up every season around this time? The casual viewer usually skips the first 3-4 episodes because there are too many contestants in the mix to care about, and the early episodes tend to have more drama/villain emphasis (bentley, hairguy v weatherman, waitress v hairdresser, etc) whereas the later episodes focus on the love stories.

That's the tough part. We have Katie already, and I think Sarah's will be correct but Tierra is still a question mark in my mind. If it ends up only being two, I do think that has happened before.

I think there are multiple ways of "self- eliminating"..... only one of which is asking to go home. I think bringing drama intentionally (especially when you know the lead is not having it) and I mean by targeting specific girl/girls (I use specific because Tierrable did not call out specific girls, she called out all the girls which is why Sean believes she is her own worst enemy), by not participating whole-heartedly (or choosing to not participate, but wanting to... it is in the manner of the refusal). Sean's got to be at a point where he knows he must eliminate girls and he'll grab onto anything that says, "She's not the one"- and some of the girls will shoot themselves in the foot, as it were.

In my opinion, the only reason Tierra would self-eliminate would be to save herself the humiliation of being rejected - I will reject you before you can reject me dynamic. From what RS said yesterday though, he is of the opinion that Sean lets her go either after the 1-1 or before the RC
