Episode 3 - 1/21 - Bachelor 17 - Discussion - Spoilers

Nope, not at all. No, I do not think he is a snooze fest because it is so interesting to me to see how he will handle things differently from previous years. It is also enjoyable to see someone so warm, so 'normal', so sincere, that it keeps me interested in the final outcome. His sincerety makes me want to root for him to find his soul mate on the bachelor, if she is to be found there.

Nicely done. It's why I like Sean, too, and am interested in how things turn out for him. I look forward to when we're past the next couple of fluff and faux drama episodes so we can see how he deals with the challenges of liking more than one gal and what his thought process is like since it's been the "theme" of the season in the media.

Also, by epi 5 or so, we know a little more about the contestants' personalities which makes it more interesting to me. I feel like there are too many people during the first 3 episodes and the editing is often wonky with random shots here and there without much context.

Yep, she was a ratings grabber, just like Arie was, no doubt about it. If they wanted her strictly for drama, like they did Shawntel, she would have been brought in later in the season... this was all about her being a fan favorite and hoping that people would tune in to see her, get hooked and continue to watch.... cuz MF knew at the outset that ol' Yawny Boy was going to be a hard sell.

Just curious....can someone remind me why they chose Sean (whom I do like) if they knew he would be a snooze? Could they not find someone else to fill the shoes (I know that Roberto turned them down)?

He was always in the running, but so was Roberto and Arie. Roberto turned them down, and so did Arie. They were left with Sean, who is a decent guy but definitely not Mr Exciting. He'll give MF a decent season but it'll prob end up being as memorable as Travis Stork's was.

There was a lot of commotion regarding who was going to be the bachelor and it was to keep the 'interest' high and get people invested one way or another. From the sounds of it it was a slam dunk, as Sean's sister said they knew way back in July that he was going to be the bachelor, so I think the rest of it (Arie) is just smokescreen, and saving face. Sean is not the fall back guy because they could not get anyone else.

I think it is going to be surprising how memorable it will be. There are many ways to make a season memorable and sincerity may trump them all.

While I do think that we will find the ending heartwarming and the season a bit less cringeworthy than some others (Jake's and Ben's come to mind....), I don't think sincerity sells advertising or boosts ratings. I wish it did, but I've been around watching this stuff long enough to know it takes more than that. :hidingchair

Less than 2 hours to go! I'm looking forward to watching the show live as opposed to last week when I missed it. Should be an interesting show with the drama and 2 good 1-on-1 dates.

I don't think Roberto was seriously in the running except by a wish and a prayer .. He made it pretty obvious quite awhile ago that he is a one gal kinda guy and not interested .. Rumor mill sure made it appear otherwise .. Thats all .. Wishful thinking by some

I'm excited as well. I wasn't sure about Sean after Emily's season, but I never really saw enough of him to judge. Once it was over, I started following him on twitter and grew to really love his sense of humor and I really like him as the bachelor. I honestly look forward to watching him every week!

Sean was spoiled as being the Bach very early, by all the usual reliable sources.... BUT it was put on hold once Arie showed an interest in doing it. He eventually turned it down do to a career opportunity (which fell through from what I understand, so he could have did it after all) and they went with Sean after all. No way in he!! would MF choose an insurance salesman over an Indy Driver.....that actually makes me chuckle just thinking of it.

I don't think Arie turned them down. As much as I would have loved him to be the Bachelor, I think Sean was their first choice and if Sean turned them down it would have gone to Arie.

Just a note, Sean doesn't sell insurance anymore and Arie isn't an Indy Driver currently. So comparing them based on their jobs is a moot point.

But I really don't get why it's hard for some to see that the TPTB would choose Sean over Arie but whatever.
