Bachelorette Casting Call ABC
Good looking, true love-seeking single men wanted! Or, at least conceited, quirly, or funny men who would make for good TV.

On Saturday, Jan. 5th from 1 – 3pm, there will be an open casting call for ABC’s “The Bachelorette” at the Cherry Hill Health & Racquet Club.
Casting producers from the ABC’s hit series have chosen South Jersey as the newest hot spot to find reality ‘diamonds in the rough’ to participate in the nationally televised show.

CHERRY HILL — Producers from the ABC television show “The Bachelorette” set up shop in Cherry Hill on Saturday for an open casting call, attracting men from around South Jersey seeking both potential love and not a little camera time.

The casting producer for the show, Malissa Chappius, stated she and others have been combing the country for male contestants, and have interviewed between 200 and 300 prospective candidates. Eventually, 25 men will be chosen for the show.

“We’re looking for someone who is charismatic, charming and has a good personality,” said Chappius inside the makeshift studio set up inside the Cherry Hill Health and Racquet Club. “We’re looking for someone ready to make that leap of faith.

“Because they’re going to need it.”

Producers with “The Bachelorette,” which has completed eight seasons since debuting in 2003 as a spin-off of “The Bachelor,” remained tight-lipped regarding specific questions they ask candidates during their auditions. They also advised that full names of those auditioning should not be provided, due to confidentially concerns before the show is filmed.

A half hour into the auditions, there were more members of the media present than actual contestants, but those who had turned out were silently filling out their applications and confidentiality forms. One sat apart from the rest, stating he didn’t want to be interviewed because, “I told my friends I was somewhere else today.”

Markedly less shy was 23-year-old Ryan, a kickboxer and Abercrombie & Fitch model from Cherry Hill, who decided to try out on a whim.

“I live about five minutes away from here, and I’d like to meet someone new, not from around here – Jersey girls are something,” he said. “Being on camera is always fun, too. I love being in front of a camera.”

He later added: “I hope they see that when I’m in front of the camera, people pay attention.”

Michael, a 23-year-old Washington Township resident, decked out in a suit jacket and collared shirt, said he learned about the casting call from his mother.

“So, she nominated me to go, but I’ll try out for anything,” said the property accountant. “I’m feeling OK about this. It would be a great experience to get on the show.”

"Local bachelors audition for 'The Bachelorette'"

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - January 5, 2013 (WPVI) -- Men looking for love got a tryout for the popular show The Bachelorette in Cherry Hill Saturday.

Before there is a rose ceremony or even a season premiere, the 25 bachelors have to be selected to compete for the Bachelorette's heart.

More than a dozen local men had one shot at making season nine of the Bachelorette. They came to Cherry Hill Saturday to give it their best shot.

Peter from Maple Shade, New Jersey picked out a special outfit he thought would impress. "I decided this would be good, maybe get me noticed," he said.

He joined about 20 men for auditions at the Cherry Hill Health and Racquet Club.

"I'm looking for guys who have charm and are charismatic and someone who is willing to take a leap of faith," said Casting Producer Malissa Chappius.

"I figured I'd meet her here. I was going to give her a flower," said Barak.

Barak took the trip from Brooklyn. He says he is motivated by romance.

"I'm actually just looking for love, that fairly tale love," he said.

Producers have to weed through those just in for the fame.

"I think that is a huge incentive, one of the reasons I want to be on," said one bachelor.

One high school teacher says he is tired of the dating scene.

"I've been on Match.com, OK Cupid, J Date," he said.

And a cage fighting kick boxer says he has a problem with where he is dating.

"It's hard to date in Jersey because Jersey girls and their reputation," he said.

The audience is just one part of the process. In just a couple of weeks, one of the lucky bachelors will find out if they are picked for the show.

By the end of January, producers will have the entire show cast.
