Preschool hmmmm - good luck!!! Well, you've had a training ground here. Seriously, my daughter is an elementary school teacher and she loves the kids, it's dealing with the parents she finds irksome. (Also, careful, my friend's daughter works at a preschool/daycare and has had some of the fathers actually hit on her when they've come to pick up their kids - yuck).
I hope it goes well for the both of you. Good luck with everything.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.

Congrats!! That is really exciting. Yes the parents will be the issue, no question about it.
Particularly with the children who are behavior problems- alot of times it stems from home but no one wants to hear that.
Anyway, I foster children so I have seen a few tricks that daycares use for those situations. A daily log book that goes home with the child- behaviors, sleeping, meds, eating to encourage full parental involvement .
Have fun!!!

The only thing i can think of is buy in bulk. If you dont have one already get a membership to Sam and costco.
Have spare clothes in all sizes cause accidents happen and the child might not have a change of clothes.
If I were 10 years younger i might do that. Love kids. but I'm too out of shape. The kids would have me tied to a chair before morning nap.

Good advise for any teacher--make as few rules as you can; make sure the kids and parents know the rules and the consequences for not following the rules; enforce the rules consistently--do not play favorites. Gook luck and I hope you get to have the opportunity.

Wow San, terrific news. My advice...don't over think it. Just be your sweet wonderful self and both the kids and parents will love you. Keep a daily log of any problems or contacts with the parents and don't forget to include the compliments they will be giving you. Both will come in handy when you eventually meet that "difficult" parent. LOL and just remember you have a whole whack of experience dealing with petulant children from all of us on this board LOL.

I worked in a nursery preschool once. Never could deal with the snotty noses and the nasty hands so good luck with your new job! Some kids were just plain nasty. You could tell which parents took time to bathe their kids each night. Made me think parenting might not be for me.

There are very exacting state regulations about preschools. Opened one here two years ago. The state regs on food and sterilization of toys, outdoor mandates time became too much for me and I sold out to a larger company. Research and take the state reg course. Wish you luck San.

Follow your instincts they are clearly sending you a strong message. It's great that you know yourself that well. Too many people don't and their kids end up in foster care, with loving families like mine taking care of them.

Early childhood education is one of the most wonderful gifts you can give a child. My mother opened a preschool back in the 70's before preschool was even a popular education option for kiddos. I remember walking neighborhoods, stuffing fliers into mailboxes trying to convince stay at home parents that preschool had it's advantages. Fast forward 40+ years later and that preschool is still in existance! It's a great opportunity for kids and a wonderful career choice for those with the talent. Keep us posted on your decision!

Aww, that's a great choice, San! Good luck to you and your sister.
I worked for 5 years in a pre-school with 3-5 year olds. They love stories. They love to hear you tell stories. They love to create stories. It feeds their imagination. Don't worry about whether they can read yet. Let them hear language. Use puppets and create plays together.
Use natural materials -- wood, wool and cotton yarn, natural things -- leaves, flowers. Plant a garden with them. Play outside.
You have such an artistic flair, as evidenced by your beautiful and creative banners and avis. They will love to draw, paint and build with you.
I don't know you, but I sense a very loving and gentle spirit in you, San. That's the most wonderful gift you can give them. Blessings!
